2014 Honda CRV
The instructions weren't as clear as I would have liked. The instructions twice referenced "the vehicle's radio harness" where the actual connector needed is one of TWO auxiliary data connectors in the vehicle, NOT the main radio harness connector. Installation is tedious at best, without a simple way to splice into the vehicle's CAN-bus wires. I spent a couple of hours cramming tinned wires into pins with cut pieces of guitar strings to test the connection. The only way to really make connection to the required wires is to cut them away directly behind the vehicle connector and solder to them. There is not enough slack in the vehicle wiring harness to make reversing this connection a possibility. That's not really the fault of Axxess, but it IS something to consider. Once installed, the ASWC-1 DOES work great as described and requires minimal configuration. I had hoped to make use of some of the dual-mapping features, but the desired mappings weren't a possibility in this particular vehicle. Again, I understand this is vehicle dependent and it just didn't happen to work out in this application.
Pros: Works great with minimal configuration.
Cons: - Instructions could be better. - Installation is tedious in vehicles where minimal harness slack is provided. - Dual-mapping feature didn't work out for my application.

Can't thank you enough for your amazing tech support Installation was much easier than I thought Your tech tips on soldering were fantastic My greatest challenge was trying to understand which wires to use Tech support said I needed three wires. Black, red, and one for stereo; That was green orange, and then tie off the rest safely. Can't say enough about how impressed I was with install.

Absolutely Amazing little product. I used this item in conjunction with a pre-made harness for the Axxess VW Canbus module. This made it literally plug and play with no wiring needed. It was as simple as turning the car on, waiting for the module to go into programming mode and tapping the wheel controls a few times to get it to catch the signal and start working. Then it did the rest automatically and all controls worked immediately. It was well worth it over the cheaper models that are all manual programming. I'm a DIY person but I still value my time and this product appears reliable and so simple to use. If you can get the pre-made harness and or are using another Axxess smart harness with it even easier!

Works great, I installed in my 2012 Honda fit with a Dual DCPA91W stereo. As long as you thoroughly read the instructions and follow them you'll be good.

Two calls with a technician and I still can't get the steering wheel controls working...and I even paid the fee to have the wiring done by Crutchfield! I understand that a couple of the wires needed to be attached but it's terribly unclear WHICH two wires. The adapter instructions are terrible and definitely not geared to self-installation. The Axxess website was of no help either. Even when filtering the instructions to my specific vehicle, there's no indication on the instructions that it is, in fact, my vehicle that's being discussed. Two separate sets of instructions come up for an ASWC-1 and ASWC. I left with either accepting the fact that the sterring whell controls won;t work or going to a professional installer and explaining the rats nest of wiring that I left behind. Neither is a very attractive option. If I had to have the equipment professionally installed anyway, it would have been less expensive to purchase it elsewhere. I'm very disappointed in the whole Crutchfield experience.

Harness was wired completely wrong with the wrong harness very upset that I had to pay extra for it to get prewired for a no hassle and can just plug it in but they wires it all wrong. Got my refund for the ReadyHarness but now I MYSELF have to figure out how In the heck I'm wiring this together and what wires go to what. The instructions don't even tell me Jack squat about what wires to connect to the harness. Just a waste of my time and money if you tell me.

Good replacement for a faulty Crux interface

I installed this in my 2005 Mercedes C230. I replaced a Crux SWRBM57C. The Crux interface had developed a fault which led to erratic operation and was causing SRS (air bag) and cluster communication errors to appear on my dashboard. I am not sure what caused the problem with the Crux interface, but it was less than two years old. The Crutchfield advisor recommended this unit as a replacement and it has worked fine for the last two days.
Pros: Works as expected.

This adapter worked well with my older 2006 vehicle. I am able to utilize all of my car's existing functions with the exception of the MUTE button. I did call the Tech Support lines for both Crutchfield and Axxess about my Mute button not working, and while both companies were responsive, Axxess quickly identified that the Mute function will not work. This was not that big a deal for me, but I wish I knew upfront that it wasn't going to work...would have saved me some time troubleshooting, updating, and reprogramming if I knew this up front.

After 2 calls to technical support and having to split 6 wires from the vehicle and loom pin connectors in order to ground them (this is not found in any of the written instructions) and still having to try to ground 3 additional wires - no power delivered to the control module. Complete waste of time and money! This loom had half of the wires folded back and bound by a wire tie. The head unit would not work once the car was started until we unplugged the module. My son is a pcb designer and he stated that this loom was extremely poor design. He designs looms that connect to pcbs and he believes that this was a cost savings effort and well below Crutchfield's reputation for simple and straightforward installation.

When I replaced my head unit with an aftermarket Sony, I bought the Axxess steering wheel control adapter. It worked... most of the time. About once every 4-5 times I drove, one of three things would happen: 1. The source would start randomly switching. Pressing the source button didn't stop the switching, and neither did pressing buttons on the stereo. I was able to turn off the stereo, but when I turned it back on, the same issue started up immediately. Only shutting the truck off and turning it back on stopped it. 2. The volume would rapidly decrease until it reached 0. Once it did this, you couldn't turn the volume back up until you turned the truck on and then off. 3. The worst one of all, the volume would increase rapidly until it was at full volume. Since I replaced all the speakers, ran new wiring and installed an amp and subwoofer, it got LOUD before I had a chance to do anything about it. If I reacted quickly enough, I could turn off the stereo before it got too loud, but sometimes I wasn't fast enough and it went to full volume and got loud. It went from volume 20 to 50 in about 3 seconds. I should point out, that I have no idea if the Sony head unit, or the Axxess steering wheel control was the culprit. I ended up calling Axxess and spoke with their tech guy, and he wasn't very interested in helping me, so I just ended up unplugging the module.
Pros: When it worked, it worked great.
Cons: When it glitches, you could be in trouble.

I did NOT received the female pigtail of the aux jack connection although I specified what head until I was going to install it to. There for it's worthless without it I can't achieve my goal of retaining my steering wheel controls. Also pricy for a non functional hardness

I think this item could be alot more usable for someone that doesnt know electronice very well. If it was designed to work on my truck i shouldnt have had to be on the phone with a tech support person. Also the 3 sec respind time to program it blows also whan your in your truck disabled in both shoulders ans have to hold the head unit with one hand and push a button to program and rhen try to push a swc. Aso why was i sold this one and not the cheeper one to start with

Mixed feelings... the instructions provided by Axxess seemed to be in conflict with the instructions provided by Crutchfield. Couple that with having a difficult time getting someone at Crutchfield who can help me, it was a frustrating install for sure. In the end, I did get a great tech at Crutchfield who figured out the problem and provided me with a solution that got most (but not all) of my SWC functions working. I think the product is good, just had issues with wiring and tech support.

Tried again after doing a firmware update on the ASWC-1, still did not work. I would suspect that most cars now days will simply need this type of interface, works great in my Saturn Sky. On the programing, read the instructions carefully if you need to program or remap the steering wheel controls. It can be kind of confusing with hold this for x and wait for green to blink or go solid, etc... once you master it, it stays locked, even without power for several days. Also, the Crutchfield tech support is OUTSTANDING in helping you with this, as I did have an issue that was wire related, that will be in the Ready Harness feedback I will supply.

This only worked for a short time in my F350. The install is correct (since it works fine sometimes). When not working correctly the buttons all do something else (volume up will switch to the next track or not work at all, the next button my turn the volume up). Took everything apart and performed a "reset" on the unit. Worked correctly for about a day.

This worked well on our Mercedes 2006 C280. The programming and pairing process is a bit hairy involving various quantities of LED flashes. All of which must be done while you can see the unit (before you reasonable the console). But of course you only have to do that once. It was also a little confusing as this came with a wiring harness - but didn't need to use it at all as I was connecting into an Axxess harness that was already prewired for the steering control module.

Installed on my 03 4runner. Used with the 70-8114 SWC harness which basically makes it plug and play. No wire to wire tapping other than a ground and power wire. Instructions are a bit confusing but there are some good youtube videos showing how to hook these up. If you use the 70-8114 harness you can discard the black harness with wires. Would recommend both these products! Once i fired my vehicle up this harness recognized the controls and worked flawlessly. No programming required.

Although it was stated to work with my 2014 Chevy Spark it did not. The first tech support guy at Crutchfield had a bad attitude about it and said he didn't want to waste 30 or 40 minutes with me only to have it not work for my car or the radio I used. The instructions I got from Metra tech support were more helpful but still impossible to make it work. Got an RMA and it's going back. Not recommended and disappointed with the attitude. Never had that issue at Crutchfield.

Unit worked well after a few calls to tech support. I purchased this unit with the NAV unit. Talked to the 1st tech Ms. Hawke emailed me the updater after I sent some pictures of the wire harness. After that it still not worked called back to tech support again. This time after cutting some wires and reattaching them the tech found some notes after I told him that the harness had a 2 wire male connector and two separate 2 female wire connectors labeled E1 and E2. Once the tech said plug them together it worked like a champ. I just wonder why the 1st tech did not recognize them. Maybe they need to update the tech notes.
Pros: After tech support helped me out everything works great. Just have to be patient with these steering wheel interfaces.
Cons: Wish they would fix the fish eye camera since Access just completed the revision on this cable compared to anothe cable I just installed in my son civic some months ago.

Works really well! I ran into an issue with my car not being auto detected correctly, but I called support and they helped me manually assign all the steering wheel buttons. Took less than 5 minutes to fix!

Functioned perfectly on first time use! Using Crutchfield's Ready Harness, which I highly recommend, made this very easy to install. Just had to plug the device in. My volume buttons and changing the song/track worked immediately. My car is an older model, so volume and changing song you are listening too are the only steering controls available.

Works well, but can be intimidating to novice. Some of the steering controls are no longer used (in my setup), but the basics are there (volume, change song, etc). Does require you to splice behind the original harness, can be intimidating for newcomer. Follow the instructions! I wish it was clearer on the splice behind the stock harness had better photos.

Cons: Slightly advanced, doesn't mention additional tools and parts needed. Suggested military splice is a bit more advanced than novice or someone with only a few installs.

I bought this unit for my 2010 Subaru Forester XT alongside a new Pioneer head unit, because Crutchfield recommended it. The adapter failed to initiate a response from the steering wheel controls after it went through its auto-programming phase. I called Axxess' customer service and the representative explained to me that this is a regular problem with Subaru's. After verifying proper installation with the rep, we attempted to manually program the unit. It still does not work. So now I am down the 55 bones I paid for it, with a non-working unit soldered into my harness and still needing to buy a new adapter of a different variety. Not the end of the world, but certainly not a good time.

Does the job as advertised. No fault after 6 years use in my daily driver. After about 4 years this did fail, but when I looked behind the stereo I found a butt splice joint I did as a self install was. It was an easy fix, but finding the install instructions on Axxess's website was a little tricky to navigate. Thankfully Crutchfield provided the original install instructions for me, and it's back up and running. NOTE - on install, don't trim off the spare wires as if you move it to a different car you may need them.

Cons: not much bigger than a matchbox, but still seems to get in the way behind my HU, especially when removing the stereo.

It is okay. It is not plug and play like you think. You need to look at wiring diagrams and figure those out and hopefully you got it right. Both Crutchfield and AXCESS say if you followed the instructions it should work so go back and check against the instructions. Before I started install I asked Crutchfield about where all the wires go. I was told the wires match by color. Wrong! Second call to support just told me it must be miss wired and gave me correct color combination. No explanation on what the led lights were telling me.
Pros: Once I got it properly installed it worked sort of.
Cons: It does not work like you think with the JENSEN CAR710W. Instead of the mode button toggling between AM and FM radio like the 350Z OEM system, it toggles between some of the system functions like Radio, USB, SiriusXM, BT Phone, ETC. Also the CAR710W doesn't power off/on with the power button. At least the Volume and Seek buttons work as you expect. I am not sure how well it matches up with other vehicles and receivers. You might or might not be looking through rose color glasses?

I can appreciate the car specific install directions supplied by crutchfield. Many of these newer systems connect in odd ways due to automotive CAN-bus communication, cameras, steering wheel controls, etc. My 2 biggest suggestion for this product: 1) YOU DON'T NEED TO USE ALL THE WIRES! This can seem really odd, because unlike a radio interface with all the pos and neg combo wires, this is just a communication interface. The wire harness is to cover multiple vehicles, not just yours. 2) Go to the company website and look up your car specific install instructions. My buddy and I installed this into 2 different subarus at the same time. Mine worked, his didn't, but it was because he missed one step of grounding one wire. Read carefully to the wire instructions.

Plug and Play. Worked out of the box with my 2018 Honda Civic LX Hatchback with CVT. The harness may come with some additional wires that need to be plugged in that bridge a connection from the head unit to the steering wheel controls. They are labeled E1 and E2, there is a male and female connector. For some models of my vehicle two wires need to be reversed and the company made it easy to reverse them by adding additional connectors in line with a couple of the wires. If you have issues, call Crutchfield and they'll help you out.

Cons: I wished E1 and E2 connectors had some sort of label on it or instructions to tell me what they were for. I had to figure this out on my own.

Attempted to follow instructions that came with the adapter. The instructions said to go to the axxess website and download your vehicle specific instructions. Well, I did this and was advised on the website that this was not tested on the 2015 Subaru Forester therefore, there were no instructions. After hours of internet research time I've managed to get 50% of the steering wheel controls working for the Boss elite stereo I installed. I wish ALL the buttons would work. The talk button does not bring up the Siri option nor can I use the end call button to end my calls. I really wish ALL the buttons would work. I also wish instructions existed for my car. Crutchfield, may I suggest providing instructions or at least suggestions of how to install to get all buttons working or advise that not all buttons will work in the description. The actual installation process was easy but trying to figure out what wires to use for my car took HOURS and I still do not have full use of the buttons.

had the same issues as others where it would shoot to full volume. Had quadruple checked everything by this point and that experience was so jarring that I stopped trouble shooting after that. The fact that it can do that, even if it's a grounding issue. especial if you have a decent and and speakers makes it not even worth trying to make it work.

Easy to install, works great, not sure why I didn't get it 3 years ago when I ordered my Kenwood DMX7706s from crutchfield. I didn't know what I was missing till I drive a friends car that had steering wheel controls. Had to have it.

The steering wheel control buttons work as they are supposed to. The adapter must being doing its job. I had my stereo installed at Crutchfield and didn't have to pick out the adapters myself.
Pros: No problems using my steering wheel controls.

Works as intended. I had to call Axxess help line to do some extra steps to get it to work with my vehicle.

This is junk. After talking with tech support at Crutchfield ( really nice people) and tech support with Axxess for almost 2 hrs and reflashing the unit could not get it to control my radio. Took it out and just gonna eat the cost.
Pros: Good tech support
Cons: It isn't universal for every car as it says it is.
