Features
Overview: The XS Power HF1208 is an advanced battery charger designed specifically for high performance 12V sealed lead-acid batteries. The charger combines the reliability of a high frequency MOSFET rectified unit with an advanced microprocessor to create a battery charger that can rapidly and safely recharge 12V maintenance free, deep cycle, gel-cell, and AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries in several sizes. The HF1208 can provide 8 amps of output current for charging.
Three Stage Charging: The HF1208 charges is three stages. The first stage, called "Bulk" charging, the current is fixed and the voltage is allowed to float. During this stage, 80% of the battery's capacity is restored. When the battery's cell voltage is up to the correct level, the second stage called "Absorption" charging is engaged. During this stage, the voltage is fixed and the current is allowed to float. The battery is brought to 100% during this stage and the cells are equalized. The third stage is "Float" charging. During this stage the voltage and current are reduced to a level that will maintain the battery. The whole charging process is microprocessor controlled for accuracy.
Overcharging: Lead-acid batteries have different charging requirements based on their design. Overcharging will reduce the life of any battery, but sealed valve-regulated batteries are especially sensitive to high charging voltages and overcharging. Overcharging and AGM or gel-cell battery will cause permanent damage.
Voltage Monitoring: The battery's terminal voltage is measured every five minutes by the on-board microprocessor and the information is then analyzed, along with the elapsed, time to dynamically control the battery charger for optimum charging performance.
Battery Analysis: When the battery is connected, the microprocessor will analyze it's voltage and if its below 4 volts, the charger won't begin charging. Likewise, if the battery doesn't come up to the correct voltage in a 10 hour period, the microprocessor will automatically shut down the charger.
Cooling: The HF1208 has an internal cooling fan that automatically operates during charging, keeping the internal components at a constant safe temperature.
Status LEDs: The HF1208 includes 2 LED indicators:
- Power LED: This illuminates red when the power cord is plugged in and the power switch is turned on.
- Charging LED: This illuminates orange or red when in charge mode and changes to green when battery charging is in the final stage. During this final stage, a minimum of 1 hour is required, however 24 hours is recommended for 100% charge.
Fuses: The HF1208 is protected by 2 fuses, a 6.3 amp fuse installed on the AC power input side of the charger, and by a 15 amp fuse installed on the output side. Two additional 15 amp fuses are also provided.
