Modern charging for modern batteries

Whether they're in competition use or daily driving, modern batteries demand precision charging. XS Power's HF1215 Intellicharger uses microprocessor control to supervise the charging process and avoid overcharging which can damage batteries. The microprocessor controls a 3-stage charging process which safely and rapidly charges 12-volt maintenance free, deep cycle, gel-cell, and AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries.

Three-stage charging

The HF1215 Intellicharger uses three distinct charging stages. In the first stage, the current is fixed and the voltage is allowed to float – this stage restores 80% of the battery's capacity. Once the battery's cell voltage is up to the correct level, the second stage engages, allowing the voltage to remain fixed while the current is allowed to float. The battery is brought to 100% during this stage and the cells are equalized. The third stage is “Float” charging, which reduces the voltage and current to a level that will maintain the battery indefinitely. Handy LED indicators show power on, charging, and fully charged status. Keep your battery ready for anything with the HF1215 Intellicharger.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The XS Power HF1215 is an advanced battery charger designed specifically for high performance 12V sealed lead-acid batteries. The charger combines the reliability of a high frequency MOSFET rectified unit with an advanced microprocessor to create a battery charger that can rapidly and safely recharge 12V maintenance free, deep cycle, gel-cell, and AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries in several sizes.

Three Stage Charging: The HF1215 charges is three stages. The first stage, called "Bulk" charging, the current is fixed and the voltage is allowed to float. During this stage, 80% of the battery's capacity is restored. When the battery's cell voltage is up to the correct level, the second stage called "Absorption" charging is engaged. During this stage, the voltage is fixed and the current is allowed to float. The battery is brought to 100% during this stage and the cells are equalized. The third stage is "Float" charging. During this stage the voltage and current are reduced to a level that will maintain the battery. The whole charging process is microprocessor controlled for accuracy.

Overcharging: Lead-acid batteries have different charging requirements based on their design. Overcharging will reduce the life of any battery, but sealed valve-regulated batteries are especially sensitive to high charging voltages and overcharging. Overcharging and AGM or gel-cell battery will cause permanent damage.

Voltage Monitoring: The battery's terminal voltage is measured every five minutes by the on-board microprocessor and the information is then analyzed, along with the elapsed, time to dynamically control the battery charger for optimum charging performance.

Battery Analysis: When the battery is connected, the microprocessor will analyze it's voltage and if its below 4 volts, the charger won't begin charging. Likewise, if the battery doesn't come up to the correct voltage in a 10 hour period, the microprocessor will automatically shut down the charger.

Cooling: The HF1215 has an internal cooling fan that automatically operates during charging, keeping the internal components at a constant safe temperature.

Status LEDs: The HF1215 includes 2 LED indicators:

  • Power LED: This illuminates red when the power cord is plugged in and the power switch is turned on.
  • Charging LED: This illuminates orange or red when in charge mode and changes to green when battery charging is in the final stage. During this final stage, a minimum of 1 hour is required, however 24 hours is recommended for 100% charge.

Fuses: The HF1215 is protected by 2 fuses, an 8 amp fuse installed on the AC power input side of the charger, and by a 25 amp fuse installed on the output side. Two additional 25 amp fuses are also provided.

Q
Is this charger car-mounted? Or does it plug into a regular wall outlet? The positive and negative clamps makes it seem like a normal battery tender instead of car mounted

A
wall outlet. It is a CHARGER not a tender!

It is not car mounted as far as I know. It plugs into a regular 110 outlet for charging. (Basic house outlet) I have mine mounted to a tool box that has outlet capability so when I work on car audio systems I can roll the box and charge a battery if needed. Definitely a great charger since I've had it. Hope that helps.

I have not seen a blinking green light on the HF1215, nor do I find any reference to such a display in the XS Power user manual, which is a bit unclear on several points. Best to ask XS Power: info @ xspowerbatteries .com

I spoke to a xs battery technician and he said Yes even though it came charge you want to get it fully charge Before 1st use to get the best Performance and life out of your battery. And make sure to check every 4 weeks and make sure your xs battery is at 12.6 volts or higher and if it's not put it on the charger to get it fully charge again .
jose  Nov 25, 2020
A
No you do not just let alternator charge.
