About the PAC Racerboy SK-1 Shift Knob

Matt Freeman
If your in-dash receiver is equipped with an infrared remote, you can program the PAC Racerboy SK-1 4-button shift knob to give you on-the-fly fingertip control over your stereo!

If your in-dash receiver is equipped with an infrared remote, you can program the PAC Racerboy SK-1 4-button shift knob to give you on-the-fly fingertip control over your stereo!

This version of the Racerboy features an integrated PAC SK-1 module (a version of the interface that allows factory steering wheel controls to be used with aftermarket receivers). With it, you can program the Racerboy to let you operate up to six of your receiver's functions, all without taking your hand off the shifter.

The interface learns six of your stereo's functions from your stereo's remote control, then assigns each function to one of the Racerboy buttons (of the four Racerboy buttons, one is used as a "mode" button, allowing the other three to accept two commands each). The interface features an infrared emitter; when you press one of the Racerboy's buttons, the emitter sends the command to your stereo the same way your infrared remote control does. The interface must be connected to a switched power source and ground for operaton.

The Racerboy SK-1 complements your car's interior with its sleek aluminum shaft, eye-catching colored top, and ergonomic design. It's available in five different color combinations. The crowd (and all your passengers) will go wild! Includes the shift knob, the SK-1 module, and a wired infrared eye. 1-year warranty.

Features

Overview: The PAC SK-1 polished aluminum shift knob can replace most OEM manual gear shift knobs. It is also an infrared learning remote that can learn up to 6 functions from most aftermarket stereos, VCPs, DVDs and Satellite Radio wireless remotes. The SK-1 has a large "dual mode" button and three smaller function buttons allowing you to program the remote to learn 6 different functions.

Controller Module: The supplied SK-1 controller module contains all of the inputs, outputs, infrared sensors and emitters for programming the remote control functions. Once the ribbon cable from the shift knob is plugged in, the controller module steps you through the process of learning the remote codes, using the program button, IR input, and a series of LED indicators. Once the module is programmed, the IR output cable's infrared emitter should be placed near the receiver (or source component of your choice), in line of sight of the unit's infrared sensor.

Applications: The SK-1 will only work with remotes that use a 38kHz to 40kHz carrier frequency. Some Pioneer and all Rockford Fosgate units will have an extra step in programming the unit in order to select the IR Extended Mode. You should consult the source component's instruction manual or the manufacturer of the unit to determine if the remote is compatible with the SK-1. Note: Currently, the following Sony head units are not compatible: CDX-MP70, CDX-CA900X, MEX-5D1, MEX-1HD, CDX-M730, CDX-M770, CDX-M620, CDX-M670, CDX-CA850X, and CDX-CA860X.

Mounting: The SK-1 is designed to replace many OEM gear shift knobs for manual transmission vehicles. The knob comes with three rubber caps of varying sizes to fit shafts of up to 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" in diameter. The supplied set screws help secure the knob to the shifter.

Dimensions:

  • Shift Knob: Diameter= 1.989", Height= 3.174", Ribbon Cable= 31"
  • Controller Module: Width= 3.567", Depth= 1.523", Height= 1.012"
  • Module Wires: IR Output= 44.5", Black Ground Wire= 22", Red Power Wire= 29" (including in-line 2A fuse and fuse holder)
