radio is good but make sure you're running an amp for your speakers if there above the recommended watts because if i have my music too high or my eq set a certain way (usually when a lot of bass comes in a song) the screen says caution amp overloaded then to get that off your screen you have to turn off your car and turn it back on unless there some radio reset switch you can buy but other than that its a good radio so far

Easy enough to install. The controls are a little awkward and the backlighting isn't great (don't wear sunglasses and try to change the volume), but the main reason for the poor review is Bluetooth and radio performance. I bought this because my aux jack was becoming loose causing me to lose a channel when using it. I figured I would upgrade to a full screen. Unfortunately both Bluetooth and FM Radio sound awful, significantly worse than my 13 year old stock head unit. I've adjusted the settings, but no matter what, reception is just too lossy for music to sound good. Talk radio or podcasts are okay.
Pros: It is easy to install and fits my truck well.
Cons: Music sounds bad. Hard to see the controls during the day.

The remote never worked .The radio cuts on and off at will.The apple car play works when it wants to . The rep for crutchfield also recommend this radio. Its in the repair shop with pioneer but i am not confident it will work ok . IT SUCKS

I bought this Jan 2022- it sat uninstalled for about 4 months until i finally put it in. After about a year of use it has failed and will not go past the pioneer logo then shuts off and tries to restart again. For about a year of use on this unit, I would recommend everyone to stay away from this product.
Pros: nice looking unit. sounds good when connected via usb.
Cons: Breaks quickly. LED lights on volume buttons on side are hardly visible. bluetooth stream does not sound the best.

Decent unit while it worked. I had it just under 2 years before I got the white screen. That's not good enough for me to buy another Pioneer. I talked to a Crutchfield tech and they said Pioneer would fix it (apparently it's a common issue) but I have not reached out to them yet.

Up until today I would have rated this 4 stars. I installed in Sept of 2021 and today July 6, 2023 I have the white screen of death. I've contacted Pioneer, but with only a 12 month warranty I'm not holding my breath. I don't know if this is a COVID period issue, or just bad QC on Pioneer's part. All I know is I'm about to go on a road trip and my nav and radio will have to be on my phone. UPDATED 7/25: I left a review on this unit on 7/6; today is 7/25. After leaving the review I contacted Pioneer and was given an address and told to send it in. To be clear, my unit was out of warranty. Honestly, I was expecting to get a call and to be told it would cost to fix hoping it would be less than a new unit. Today my unit came back with notes stating a resolder and firmware update were done - no charge. Just WOW! It is rare today when a company owns up to an issue with one of its products and just makes it right. In all it cost me $25 to ship with delivery confirmation and insurance. This has been a great head unit - easy to install, easy to use, and sounds good. My only complaint is scrolling is a bit slow, but for the cost, it is totally acceptable. Pioneer stood behind this unit and I am so happy I went with Pioneer. They have won a customer for life!

Bought pioneer DMH 1770 NEX back on 09/10/2021. On 06/30/2023 screen turned white with some colored lines. Speakers started producing a loud noice... scary. Bought unit through Crutchfield. Their site ranked the unit as GOOD. What a misleading rating!!! Not too much to say. Pioneer Quality is disappointing. Their products quality is probably the worst on this kind units. Pioneer just sucks. Avoid the disappointment, avoid the frustration, avoid a heart attack!

There should be a negative stars button for these head units. I bought this and one and 2 weeks after the warranty expired the white screen of death. Bad things is this head unit was pushed on me by a Crutchfield representative. Don't buy is all I can say. You would be better off throwing your money out the window.

WHY IS THIS STILL 4 STARS!!!!! Garbage pioneer head unit like all the rest of their trash. 1 week out of warranty white screen and no response from pioneer on many attempts to contact them. Crutchfield we expect more from you than this. Put a warning on pioneer head units so less people get suckered into their garbage!! Thanks

I wanted a radio that has better quality then what came original in my 2013 Tacoma. I have always chosen Pioneer when I wanted a after market radio. My first was back in the early 80's. This installation was the best and easiest thanks to Crutchfield's excellent instructions and phone support.

Like a lot of recent reviews, my DMH-1770NEX fell victim to the white screen of death. I bought and installed it a year and a half ago. Worked well but started the cycle of crashing and white screens a week ago. This is clearly a manufacturing defect that they should be making customers whole on, given how much it's happening. Pioneer is saying that to send it to their repair facility would be somewhere around $120-$150 to repair, not counting shipping. Not going to throw good money after bad. Do not buy Pioneer!

This worked great upon installation, but within months, started freezing up frequently, and I had to kill the vehicle to reset it. Over time it kept freezing up, so I followed Pioneer's instructions to update the firmware. The unit froze up during firmware update, and now it's bricked. I've been contacting Pioneer for over a month now to see if they can repair or help, and all they say is "I will have to escalate it to further to our corporate team. We do not have the ability to approve warranty work this far out." Crutchfield suggested a hard reset, that's all. I would avoid this and all Pioneer products at this time. Google "Pioneer White Screen" and you'll find this is a common issue, with irregular support from Pioneer.
Pros: it works great upon installation
Cons: it degrades over time until it's totally not functional and nobody will help you

Bought December 2021, installed march 2022 (Christmas opening delay due to dad in hospital), may 2023 white screen of death. Out of Crutchfield's hands and pioneer wont respond after 4 attempts to reach out to them (been a month now). Apparently its a known manufacturer issue with something internal. Buy something else at all costs. So ridiculouos to spend $500 for HU and wiring just for it to go out in 14 months. Giant piece of junk.
Pros: Great for a paper weight after it breaks was a good cheaper option with all the features I wanted now I see why.
Cons: Have to sell it before it breaks.. you are on borrowed time

After a year it stopped working and the screen keeps freezing up and won't work at at all. I have looked it up and a lot of other customers have had the same problem and it's the sd card that fails so you have to take it to a electronic shop to get it fixed which cost you half of the price of the unit.

Firmware update is a nightmare, it works fine when its new. But it'll stay behind when updating. If you want a simple Bluetooth device this is a solid choice. But if you want an Android Auto and Apple Car Play experience, avoid this unit.

This is my first touchscreen stereo. I originally purchased a different unit, which unfortunately was defective. The whole team involved from m Crutchfield was unreal when I needed to return the unit for another. Based on my needs, they pointed me towards this unit, which ended up being a better fit for me anyway. The equipment was delivered to my door today and I installed it this evening. All I can say is WOW! I have been missing out on CarPlay, backup camera, ect all these years. I now feel up to speed. The user friendly features of this radio are great and the sound coming through my speakers is excellent. Very happy! Thank you Crutchfield!

Not a bad radio, works fine. The touchscreen to me is not very sensitive and can be hard to swipe. I can brighten and lower the display which I like to do. Good EQ settings gets loud.

Good basic stereo with Apple Car Play when it works. It likes to restart constantly or have a blank screen. It's so bad my wife knows how to use a hair clip to reset it. I've sent it back to Pioneer to fix during the warranty period but it didn't last too long. Look at something else because you don't want this headache!!!

Installation was a breeze with the installation kit. This unit is worth the money for its price point ($300). The only thing I wish could be different is for the Apple Car Play to be wireless. But as I stated above, for the price it's a small inconvenience. I was pleasantly surprised by the audio output. I'm happy I made this purchase

Great sounding head unit. Android auto works perfectly! Easy to install and lots of great features. However, the screen is too dim. With polarized sunglasses in bright sun the screen disappears. Very frustrating and unsafe when using the backup camera and Google Maps. So far, Crutchfield has been terrific in setting up a return and guidance in selecting a better system for my truck.
Pros: Awesome sound and features for the money. Clear phone calls. Android auto works perfectly. Great fit! Easy to install.
Cons: The screen is too dim with polarized sunglasses making for unsafe driving conditions.

Pretty good for an entry level unit. Difficulty getting mirroring to work. Had to find the right app to get it to work. Really enjoy having a backup camera on my truck and my run a second camera.

Cons: I'm not quite use to all the 'safety' measures it takes to get it to work. Never got the parking brake wire to bring up the unlock screen. (Yes, I did tap into the PB wire)

I have a 2011 Chevy Aveo (sedan). It previously had a Kenwood KDC-1032 in it which would constantly go out whenever the bass in my music would hit and it SUCKED. I ended up throwing it away and began using my AirPods until I got my hands on THIS beauty.. the Pioneer DMH-1770NEX. This thing is AWESOME! It woke my speakers up (Skar TX65's for anyone wondering). I've had it for about a week now and everything is still going strong. No issues whatsoever. Definitely worth the price!

First year it worked well and was a blast to use; now I'm lucky if it turns on. Every time I connect to CarPlay the nav shuts off. The screen turns into the photo shown. I've checked my wiring and there is no problems with that. I've read that other people have had issues like this and that it's an internal problem with the nav. Products now-a-days just aren't made for longevity it's really sad.

Great stereo, they gave me everything I needed to get the job done And shipping was quick and easy. I would've liked to of seen a bigger, wiring, diagram and instructions for both the wiring harness and the radio.

Great upgrade - sounds much better than my stock head unit. I thought that I wanted HD radio, but don't really miss it. Android Auto is a game changer. Install looks clean and steering wheel controls work for volume, change presets or next/back song and changing inputs. Call/Hang up call and voice control steering buttons don't work, but not really missed. Reason for the 4 stars: an annoying thing about the radio is that the some of the preset "buttons" along the bottom don't show the frequency, but rather RDS information from when I saved it. In some cases it just shows a blank preset even though there is a station saved. I mostly change the stations using steering wheel controls, but I would consider this basic functionality. See photo. It did take me a few calls to Crutchfield support to get it installed and had an issue with upgrading to the latest firmware and then losing access to Android Auto. I spoke to Pioneer support and was ready to send the unit back, but decided to buy a high quality cable and that resolved the issue.

Unacceptable sound quality and software for a Pioneer

The good: the new UI looks great, much better than the old Pioneers. Capacitive touchscreen is responsive and clear. The bad: where do I start... Bluetooth sound quality for music is absolutely terrible, with very noticeable "crackling" distortion in the higher frequencies (and yes I set EQ to flat, it defaults to "Powerful" out of the box). Bass is "boomy" even with a sub. Tried 2 different phones with the same results, tried the same phones with a Bluetooth-to-aux adapter and it didn't have the issue. Android Auto also flat out refused to work on both of those phones. Although the software looks really nice, it seems to be "unfinished". You can't customize the home screen icon order so you're stuck seeing CarPlay, iPod, and SiriusXM icons and need to swipe to see the Aux icon. Illumination gives you 5 presets with no way to tune it. You can set crossover frequency but not slope. EQ gives you 1 custom preset instead of 2. I ended up replacing with a DMH-C2550NEX (older hardware and software). The sound quality is great (crisp clear highs, tight punchy bass), Android Auto works with no issues whatsoever using the exact same cables, and the sound/customization settings I expected were all there. Unfortunately I had to give up the capacitive touchscreen and aesthetics but I didn't want to take the 4Runner dash apart a third time. Crutchfield support is EXCELLENT, I called them and set up a return in a matter of minutes.

Wish I would have chose a different one. Weak FM signal. Static can be heard on all stations. Screen is not bright enough. It is almost impossible to see anything during the day when the sun is shining through the (tinted)windows. I have to take my sunglasses off just to see the display. Using the reverse camera during the day is useless. Screen is too dim. It's not clear at all. Not what I would expect from a new head unit in 2022. The sound quality is not what I expected. My factory radio sounded better. I will try replacing my stock speakers to see if that will help. I am also going to install an FM signal booster. Which is a shame because my factory radio always received the stations in my area just fine. Now I am having to jack with this thing to try and get it to operate like it should. Not what I expected from Pioneer. Has that flea market quality feel. Very dissatisfied.

Great unit! Purchased this at the suggestion of the installation guy because the 1500 was outdated. Had to wait for the unit to become available at Crutchfield again, but it was well worth the wait. MY SON LOVES IT! The only bad thing is that you have to buy a certain type C cable in order for the Android Auto to stay connected properly.

Radio is a nice addition to a 2010 VW GTI. I wanted a better NAV substitute and backup camera capability and this radio did not disappoint.

Cons: Dealing with Volkswagen wiring can be a PITA especially when your vehicle is between model generations. Also I purchased the easy harness from Crutchfield that was not pinned out for my vehicle and had to be modified in order to work. No fault of Crutchfield but of VW. Just beware of the issue of installing into a MK6 VW GTI

My needs were pretty simple; I just wanted to add a backup camera and CarPlay to my teenage daughter's car. I wanted a budget unit, but didn't want a no-name eBay one. This fit the bill perfectly. The differentiator for me was the capacitive screen on this model. Most radios in this price category have resistive touch screens. Yes, the parking brake safety is annoying. Overall I am very pleased so far.

Worked for about a week and then the screen would blank out. Sent it in to Pioneer for factory warranty. Took a week to get there, a week for them to "fix" it and a week for it to get sent back. Started doing the same thing a week later. Get anything other than a Pioneer

Nice stereo but can't figure out how to play video. Directions could be more detailed. Seems to only play video if there is a rear entertainment system. Parking brake connection should be for video only. Frustrating it removes other setting management.

Not a bad head unit at all. I installed this pioneer unit in my 2001 mitsubishi eclipse and it does everything I want it to do. I purchased the NEX 2600 for my 2008 Ram and decided to go with a cheaper unit considering I didn't need all the bells and whistles of the NEX2600. My 1 and only complaint is the display doesn't look as bright as the one in my truck but, that could be because I need to tint my windows. Other than that, this is a very nice unit and would definitely buy again.

Had this unit for 6 months and have had several issues with it bugging out and becoming the full white screen. When it works it is nice and smooth but this is the second time within 6 months and 2 units to do this the second unit has only been installed 24 hours.

not really hands free phone operation from CarPlay the provided microphone apparently only works with bluetooth. speaker volume not very adjustable, can't lower the dash speakers without the whole system getting lower, then I found that the fader did not work if you fade to the back it just lowers the volume of the whole system. I had Crutchfield prewire the harness kit and got the interface harness as well so all I did was plug it in. I was told that this was normal for any aftermarket unit.I returned the unit and harnesses.

This was a replacement for a stock system that barely connected Bluetooth. I've only had it installed for a day, but so far I've enjoyed having it in my car. CarPlay is a great feature that I never thought I would enjoy as much as I do. It sounds clear and give me speakers some extra pop over stock. I will say that the item description from Pioneer is confusing. I bought this due to being listed as SiriusXM tuner compatible with TuneMix and other features, but it doesn't actually have those. Turns out, it's just marketing for the Sirius tuner itself. Compared to other units with the same tuner capability, those don't all list those features. Oh well. Also, this is "entry level", and even though it has features and sounds good that you expect for the money, the touch screen is not as responsive as I would like. Still, an improvement over stock. I also miss volume knobs more than I expected. Install was easy with ReadyHarness service once I figured out that ALL the wires (from the Maestro box also) were already connected. Plug and play, slide in, and go. My complaints on install are not from this unit. I would just like to see Pioneer (and all other markets) specify that TuneMix, Sports Flash, etc are NOT supported by this radio. Confusing description and was the primary reason I chose this over another unit. But I have all the SiriusXM channels I pay for, so it's better than I had in my old head unit.

Cons: Misleading product description. SiriusXM TuneMix and others are NOT available on this unit, even if the description from Pioneer might hint otherwise (that is a feature of the required tuner for Sirius) I miss having volume knobs. The volume controls are small and not easy to find if you don't have steering wheel controls while driving Screen responsiveness is slow due to the type of touch screen it is

This Pioneer head unit is perfect for the price. It does exactly what I wanted and expected. The price was good and super fast shipping. The best thing about it is the Critchfield customer service. When I placed the order J.P helped me decide which unit would satisfy my needs and he was right. Then I believe Shay was his name helped me with a couple of technical questions during the install. I could not be happier with the stereo or Crutchfield! Thank you Bill

Awesome as always. Pioneer has always been top notch and dependable. I love the ready harness it takes the headache out of wiring these units up.

Cons: The gray dash kit doesn't match anything in the car it's in between the black and the silver in the car.

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
I purchased this DMH-1770NEX to replace a JVC unit in my 03 Silverado because I wanted car play and satellite radio. The JVC unit always worked great and sound was clear and crisp, without distortion. After installing the DMH-1770NEX with the same speaker hookup arrangement as the JVC the sound quality from this Pioneer unit was horrible. Very little base and tons of distortion. I fiddled with all the audio settings trying to find some better sound to no avail. All other functions work fine although Siri sounds like he is talking through a glass of water. I figured maybe the unit just wasn't powerful enough to run the speakers so I completely rewired the setup using a 400 watt 4 channel amp. Now I have a a lot of powerful distortion and powerful yet horrible sound quality. I've used many pioneer products in the past and all were very good units. I'm not sure if this is an isolated case of a bad unit, or a more systematic case of just poor quality. At any rate I think my days of purchasing Pioneer products are over.

2015 Toyota Avalon
I've had this stereo for three months now, and now that I'm used to it I really love it and am so happy I made this purchase, It's made my 2015 car feel like a brand new car again! Beware, when I first set up this headunit it sounded terrible! Super distorted and almost un listenable. All of the EQ presets sounded so bad that I was ready to return the unit. However, this radio has a 13 band equalizer that lets you fine tune everything. It took quite a lot of trial and error, and a good amount of frustration, but I was eventually able to get everything dialed in to where I like it. Once there, the sound is awesome! Plenty of power with rich bass and crisp highs, it really makes listening to music in the car a pleasure. The touchscreen works great and is quick and responsive. The screen feels small since there is the permanent black bar of buttons on the left side, and a black bar with the pioneer logo at the bottom, but the flat glossy front looks more high-end than other stereos at this price. The picture quality is not amazing, just ok. It looks fine from a distance. I use this radio almost exclusively for Apple CarPlay and it works perfectly for that with no issues. I do find that the radio signal is not as good as the factory radio's was, but I never listen to the radio so it isn't an issue for me. If you are looking to add Apple CarPlay or android auto to your car without a ton of other extra features, this is probably the best you can get for the money!
Pros: 13 band equalizer (you will need it!) , responsive touchscreen, powerful sound, great Apple CarPlay, great value.
Cons: Bad EQ presets, screen seems on the small side and image quality is not the best.

This is more a review of Crutchfield Customer Service rather than the Pioneer unit. I purchased this to replace a dated Jenson unit in my 2012 Winnebago RV (Mercedes Sprinter frame). The unit was far from plug and play even with the ReadyHarness since Winnebago had modified the wiring harness significantly. A quick call to Crutchfield to describe the situation and they authorized a return immediately - and paid for return shipping. I've used Crutchfield for my electronics needs for over 20 years and will continue!

2006 Honda Ridgeline
Excellent replacement for the OEM radio in my 2006 Honda Ridgeline. Remote voice control of the unit appears to be as good as Siri can be. The Apple Carplay feature works flawlessly but requires an external USB connection between the Pioneer unit and your Iphone. This was expected because I use the USB to charge the phone. An owner of this unit can also connect through Bluetooth with an Iphone to just play music in the Iphone's music library, no USB necessary.
