Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX
Nicholas from BUFFALO, NY on 3/25/2025
2022 Toyota Camry
Unit functions fairly smoothly and does what it should just like my 4200nex that i had for 7 years and sold due to my new car not accepting a double din. Unit suprisingly packs a big punch and is loud and clear. Sadly my display came with atleast 4 dead pixels and possible screen damage / debris behind the screen. I guess it blends in to look like dust on the screen. However, i do know it is there and at this price point i find it unacceptable. If i had to guess they have been having issues as the unit came with what appears to be a glass screen protector, thanks for trying to add protection pioneer, but the unit is not pictured with the annoying sirus and hd radio logos on the screen. Just hope that this screen holds together for 7+ years like my first unit. As much as these units cost now they should come with built in dsps/ auto calibration.
Pros: Good power and functions as it should
Cons: Screen life is concerning due to out of box defects / screen protector.

Stereo is amazing! Crutchfield made the installation super easy with the accessories that came with it. The only issue I'm having is watching live TV or Netflix. YouTube and iTunes videos are working fantastic! I haven't even installed the amp, speakers, or sub yet and the sound is 100X better than it was with the original unit. Thank you, Crutchfield!
Pros: Looks great, sound even better!
Cons: Can't watch live TV or Netflix. Still trying...

Bad Radio
Angelo from SARASOTA, FL on 12/23/2024
Purchased in September. Lot's features, most of which you cannot use effectively without getting into accident. Unfortunately, my 60 days are up and cannot return. Touch screen has too many subtle gestures which require your eyes to be on the unit instead of the road. Still cannot figure out how to change between the three sets of Sirius channels except when I don't want to. I have owned many wonderful pioneer products in the past, after this one I will not touch the brand again.
Pros: Many features
Cons: Deadly

Room for improvement
Paul from Forest Grove, OR on 6/30/2024
2016 Ford Mustang
Display is clear. Sound is good with stock speakers. Awkward to use because of screen layouts, always having to scroll or go back to use. Often have to touch buttons several times. Response after touch is slow. Caravassist is clumsy and does not display correctly on phone (Samsung galaxy 23 ultra) Phone app won't launch until all connections are made: wifi, bluetooth and cable. Caravassist doesn't add anything that the shouldn't be built into the Pioneer already.
Pros: Looks good in the Mustang. Band equalizer works well.
Cons: Only can display 3 widgets. Can't find a way to display time. Can't find a way to display ambient temperature. Can't relabel radio stations with number, call letters or music type. Gauge display is not very flexible. Boost/Vacuum gauge shows vacuum in PSI not inHg. Can't view 2nd camera while moving.

Nope, could be a decent unit but after dumping a boat load of money into Crutchfield I still would have needed to do some wire work ... I passed an hit the return button. A new head unit is in the future but I probably won't be getting it from Crutchfield. Tech support was great, that's about it. I expected more for the amount of money spent.
Pros: None
Cons: Myriad of installation instructions across 5 companies is a joke.

Amazing unit
John from Fort Mc Coy, FL on 6/7/2022
2014 Toyota Camry
This unit is incredible! With the adapters I purchased (a bunch of them, and all from Crutchfield) I lost nothing important from my 2014 Camry's factory toys. Wiring it all up was pretty confusing at first, but if done one wire / connector / adapter at a time, it can be done by anyone with the ability to install easier units. Physically there are a bunch of different ways to install it in the car, and after a little experimenting I found a perfect way, with no modifications. The unit is LOADED with features and options, learning them all is going to take time, but it'll be worth the effort. Display is sharp, bright, and the touch screen function works perfectly. As far as sound, it gets quite a big louder than factory, and it for sure sounds better even with the factory speakers (which will be replaced soon). The entire setup cost a bunch of money...but the results are worth it.
Pros: Tons of features, looks works and sounds great.
Cons: Hookup and configuration can be very confusing with all the adapters and wiring harnesses.

First I would to thank Crutchfield for their outstanding customer service. This radio is great as I have it installed in a 2022 Toyota Highlander using the Metra 109-T07 install kit. I first ordered the 7600 nex that I had to return because it would not work with their kit and after contacting metra is was informed that the 6600 will work. Everything worked out. For anyone wanting to perform this on a 2020-22 Highlander (without the 12.3in Screen) only the 6600 will work. Audio is 10x better as I also changed out all my speakers to kicker. Again thanks Crutchfield.
Pros: Excellent fitment with correct kit
Cons: none so far

Great aftermarket for RAV4
Tim from Charlottesville, VA on 2/22/2022
2016 Toyota RAV4
I bought this system through the Crutchfield website with support from Colin. Works and fits well into the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Limited. Trim panels look factory perfect. I had 2 minor issues with the radio. The Pioneer CarAVAssist app didn't work because the radio firmware was at 1.03 and needed to be at 2.01. Once installed it worked although still a bit cumbersome. Also in trying to figure out how to install 2 antennas (GPS/Sirius) I found the Maestro made adapters to use OEM antennas. Not sure why Crutchfield didn't offer that part. Once installed both worked perfect. Not sure if there are any differences in antennas, but no issues. Only reason for 4 v 5 is the lack of description from Pioneer on some of the wires. Crutchfield tech support was able to help.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Unmarked wires Firmware out of date CarAVAssist confusing

Good option for those with Rav4 or Tacoma
Christopher from NANTICOKE, PA on 1/26/2022
2019 Toyota RAV4
This is my first Pioneer Head unit. I purchased this so I could build a system with better sound quality and add features to my 2019 Rav4 such as Android Auto. I had Crutchfield setup the wiring harness and for the most part everything was plug and play outside of configuring the RR Maestro and a couple other wires. I will say coming from the Kenwood DDX9905S that I had in my Tacoma, the Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX leaves a little to be desired. One thing you might read about Pioneer is that their software is laggy and that is 100% true. With my DDX9905S I experienced stutters or random disconnects from AA once in a blue moon. The Pioneer lags much more frequently (even after updating to the Jan 2022 FW) and drops AA wireless about once or twice a week. The time it takes to launch AA Wireless is about 30 seconds more than what it took my Kenwood. Sometimes it doesn't even pickup AA Wireless unless I launch into BT Audio first. For those with Rav4's and Tacoma's, you're probably already aware you won't be able to retain your factory mic but the mic that is included with this unit is plenty good. One thing I wish I could do is decrease the brightness even further because even at its lowest I find it to be a little too bright in a dark environment. I'm hoping Pioneer fixes the bugs with this unit because otherwise it's pretty solid. I was able to flush mount in the original radio trim and it keeps that OE appearance while providing extra functionality.
Pros: Adds Android Auto (Wired/Wireless). Adds Apple Carplay (Wired/Wireless). When paired with RR Maesto you can view even more information about your vehicle. Looks great in Toyota Tacoma and Rav4.
Cons: Buggy Expensive

Overall I love this thing! It is so much better than ones I've used in the past, but it's not without its issues. The biggest one for me is the shuffle feature when playing music from a USB flash drive. The shuffle feature isn't the best. 2 times it got stuck on a loop of the same 10 or so songs, even though I have thousands of songs on the drive and over 115 artists. I had to turn off shuffle then back on for it to finally change the songs. It will also play songs from the same band, and occasionally from the same album, within 2 or 3 songs. I'm not sure how many people listen to music these days on a flash drive with all of the streaming services out there so this may not be an issue for a lot of people. The other issue is it can be slow when using Android Auto. Not sure if that is an issue with the unit, or just Android Auto.

This unit looks amazing, mounts flush in Toyota Tacoma and looks factory. All features and functions work as described, its nice being able to wirelessly connect to Apple CarPlay. My only complaint is that there is a slight lag between functions but it's not unbearable. If you prefer changing volume with a knob, be weary, this unit only has touchscreen volume up and down which can be difficult to find while keeping your eyes on the road. You can keep your steering wheel volume functions but be sure to it up so that when you hold volume down button it does not mute instead of turning volume down.
Pros: Factory fit, great sound, great picture, wireless car play, Waze
Cons: Slight lag between screens

RSE RCA Input or HDMI doesn't work when CarPlay or Bluetooth Enabled
Juan from Flower Mound, TX on 8/1/2021
2011 Buick Enclave
I installed the Pioneer DMH-WC660NEX head unit in my 2011 Buick Enclave. Then I tried to play NetFlix, YouTube and YouTube TV through the HDMI or RCA inputs (for the rear seat entertainment) and it didn't work. The unit either freezes or switches sources to CarPlay or Bluetooth audio automatically and the videos keeps playing in my iPhone X. I called Pioneer and they told me that for the HDMI or RCA inputs to work that I had to disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to make sure that CarPlay is disabled. Basically, to allow my kids to watch movies in the back seat I have to disable CarPlay and Bluetooth. Really? I told them that I have a Kenwood Excelon Reference DMX1057XR in my Toyota Tundra and don't have those issues. Sadly, I am returning the unit and all the installation gear. Crutchfield was very helpful during the whole process of figuring out what was wrong with the unit. They spent a good amount of time in the phone with me supporting me. I am very pleased with Crutchfield but very disappointed with Pioneer. Such an expensive radio and such a poor CarPlay/HDMI/RCA input implementation.
Pros: Great sound and the touchscreen is nice and clear.
Cons: HDMI and RCA Inputs don't work when Bluetooth or CarPlay are enabled

Got it and installed it in Feb, and for the first few months it was great. Then I ran into a problem where I would be required to re-pair my bluetooth every time I got in the car. This turned into a few months of troubleshooting (my fault for duration) with Crutchfield which resulted in me sending the unit back this week.
Pros: Connects to Android and iPhone wireless for carplay and android auto Connects nicely to the steering wheel controls with the add-on adapter Pretty cool visualization of car data with the OBDII connector
Cons: Problems with bluetooth connectivity Always starts with the devices and sometimes takes 2-3 button presses for it to take me seriously

This product is a good fit if you are looking for a big screen at an inexpensive cost. The resolution is good and the added features are great. The response time is good but can be glitchy. There have been posts about the CarAVAssist app not working, but once you figure it out it works as advertised. I do have an issue with the unit but it is an easy fix. I have the Alpine system with factory amp. The amp experiences a hard turn on due to no delay from the remote signal on the unit. I plan on installing a time delay relay to fix this.

2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo
I always have purchased Pioneer radios as a replacement for my OEM radios. For the price, it is nice. The floating screen is a nice upgrade as your screen size can be larger than original double din sizing. A few issues I've run into (at least for my 2018 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 is the dash kit and floating kit needed modification and I had to figure out how to do so as there were no instructions nor customer support showing these issues and how to resolve them. A few personal issues I have with the radio so far. Wireless car play is not automatically connecting to my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I may be doing something wrong but so far it's been a bit of an irritant. Another gripe I have is, when putting my vehicle into reverse, the guide lines don't automatically appear. You have to press the guide line option to appear anytime you want it. My original screen used to automatically do this when put into reverse, and apparently this isn't possible on this radio. I also miss having some more basic equalizer options such as an option or variant to change the speaker output by treble and bass like more simple radios rather than having to get into full adjustments and complicating things.
Pros: Nice larger screen with good resolution Wireless CarPlay
Cons: Screen bezel should be smaller Back up camera guide lines doesn't automatically turn on Wireless CarPlay isn't connecting automatically (may be something I'm not doing correctly to enable this, but unsure)

Perfect Fit and Features

2017 Toyota Tacoma
Well it was expensive but worth it. I changed my mind half way through my install. I was originally going the use my stock Entune and an digital sound processor -- the AudioControl DQ-61. I decided the DSP had too many cons with the install, plus I wanted the premium sound, Apple CarPlay and larger screen. The only con at the moment is the CarAVassist software and app. I cant get it to work. I will have to call Pioneer I think. The CarAVassist is not very user friendly, but I have the feeling that if they made it easier, the whole unit would be a lot more expensive. The ideal would be to download updates directly from the head unit. Perfect fit for a 3rd gen Tacoma with the premium bezel. The stock metal brackets can be reused and work great, but holes will need to be drilled.
Pros: Great sound processing features, screen, very little lag with carplay, wireless works well.
Cons: CarAVassist is confusing and does not work well so far. Must stand for "Always Vexing."

So much better than the stock entune system in my 2019 Tacoma. I was hesitant with this product because of the price tag. But I have always used pioneer head units and never disappointed. All in all, worth the money if you're willing to spend it!
Pros: Audio is crystal clear. The huge screen looks like it was made for my truck. User friendly interface if you know anything about technology. Wireless CarPlay works perfectly for me and connects very quick. I retained all of my truck features using the maestro rr unit. Installed in a 2018 Toyota Tacoma double cab. Easily installed by modifying the factory brackets, then using 3/8" washers as shims to get the unit totally flush with the factory bezel. Screen is excellent, Android Auto works great wired and wireless. This microphone leaves something to be desired, and I will probably have to address that sooner rather than later. The wiring was a bit challenging, but was able to figure it out. If you have a 3rd gen Tacoma, I don't think there is a better option out there for a perfect fit.

The premium OE bezel is required. You'll have to mill the standard bezel a bit. With the premium bezel there's a small gap at the top of the unit but it's not as noticeable as it looks in the picture and with some adjustment I could probably eliminate it even further. Installation with the harness, dash kit (you'll only use the brackets and you actually don't need it if you use the OE brackets and drill a hole) and Maestro is pretty simple. The only additional adapters you'll need are for the GPS and satellite radio antenna. You you speak to a Crutchfield rep they'll point you in the right direction and even drop it in your cart for you. There is no adapter for the mic so you'll need to use the one that comes with the new head unit. I ran the wire under my dash, to the driver side pillar then up to the over heard console then popped out the OE mic and secured the new mike in its spot with double sided tape. Then I tucked the wire under the headliner then under the weather stripping on the pillar. I haven't had an aftermarket head unit in a long time so it's a bit of a learning curve but I'm really starting to love this unit as I learn the features. The cool thing about this (which I'm sure other radios have also) is the app. You can use it to customize the screen and download updates.
Pros: Wireless Carplay and Android Auto. Very responsive screen. Screen quality is insane.
Cons: The software update that was just released fixed any issues I had with the head unit.

The Complete Package for your Gen 3 Tacoma

This unit is a perfect fit for the Gen 3 Tacoma Pickup. Couple of tips: 1. You need the Premium Entune Bezel in your truck 2. You will need the optional iDatalink ACC-SAT-TO2 adapter package if you wish to retain the factory gps and sat radio antennas The units overall performance is outstanding. Wireless Car Play connects automatically every time you get in and start the vehicle once you set it up. Sound is exceptional, as you would expect from Pioneer. I replaced my stock Entune system with an aftermarket android based head unit which was a significant upgrade. The upgrade to the DMH-WC6600NEX blows my android head unit out of the water! Calls are crystal clear. All source audio is flawless. Display is sharp and can be read even with polarized sunglasses on. I am impressed, and Crutchfield gives you everything you need in the recommended install package. You will not be disappointed......
