Nicely built unit

3rd times the charm! Started with an Alpine Halo 511, but returned it due to faulty/buggy software that Alpine had no intentions of fixing. Got a similar style 2nd hand Kenwood touch screen radio to replace the Alpine, and to be honest, even if it wasn't broken Kenwood car audio head units have gone down the drain. Requested a replacement/different head unit within the Crutchfield warranty period and got placed on the waiting list for the Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX. I must say, this radio is 99% what I expected and wanted.
Pros: -wireless apple carplay works as it should without throwing constant errors like Alpine and Kenwood radios. -once setup, the audio quality is great and the radio is very responsive/quick to the touch (no lag/delay between presses and reaction)
Cons: -I haven't found a way to make the seek button run the favorites within the XM radio. You press seek forward/back and it switches to the next sequential XM channel number instead of going to your next saved preset. This may be an option that I just haven't seen yet. -you MUST connect the radio to the internet when setting it up. -counterintuitive menus when attempting to connect to wifi

I tried to get this pile of crap to work, for two years. I finally yanked it out and sold it at a junk sale. The software is junk! updates are a miserable thing to attempt. The screen is very slow. The phone is unusable. All around trash.
Pros: looks nice
Cons: Everything besides the look.

Slow, buggy, crashes

The screen looks good, but not without issues. Overall I'm very disappointed in this unit. The hardware is buggy, slow, it freezes, and I've experienced random restarts. The screen is way too bright at night even with the brightness low. The screen is way to reflective and difficult to see when the sun is out. Huge gap in the display and the glass, that can actually block some elements of the UI towards the driver. Overall it did improve the sound quality of my music but the cons are beginning to outweigh the negatives the longer I have it.
Pros: Wireless Apple CarPlay works great most of the time.
Cons: Buggy, slow, freezes, random restarts. The screen is way too bright at night even with the brightness low. The screen is way to reflective and difficult to see when the sun is out.

Stay away from this product. I was excited to purchase this with the maestro kit for my f150 for all the features like a/c controls on the screen and so on that the product prom. None was true. The display is nice big clear and bright but Unfortunately my truck wasn't compatible with the maestro features but only find out later after purchase. Should be disclosed either on Crutchfield's website since they say they can find the right package and take out all the guess work. 1 month later after the install the radio has to be taken out and the maestro module has to be reset. Had to do this a couple of times including today. And it has to be removed from car and reset because the radio doesn't turn off after car is shut off and doors open. Really crappy for being an expensive car stereo. I've hD cheaper radios perform better in the past. Another downside of this radio is if you have something plugged into HDMI and switch the car to reverse the video resets and shuts down the stereo and have to reset the module. No forums or answers for this except check wiring and reset module. Again crap for high price tag. The UI is slow and laggy. Pioneers car AV assist is a joke also. Should be easy to customize but it's more hassle than it is worth. Unfortunately I think I missed the return window for this product but I just hope this review can help someone's decision in what to go with. I wish I would have went with the Alpine ilx5-11 and a different install and dash kit for the F150.
Pros: Big bright screen
Cons: Some features not optional Pricey for what you get Slow response time

long time pioneer lover here and after using this lackluster head unit i have already ordered the alpine halo 11!!!! the pros very sleek stylish design and amazing sound quality, cons.. very laggy after most recent update in march, black screen of death, and the Bluetooth is worse tan 2010 Bluetooth!!! if you get out of your car t check the mail or grab something quickly and go more than 5 feet from radio it disconnects and you either wait 1-3 minutes and i may reconnect unusually i have to go into settings and Bluetooth to manually reconnect have given this unit a year for pioneer to fix and sadly no fix....sorry pioneer you failed on this one...

The system constantly crashes my android with "T-Mobile stopped working" or the Android Auto is not working despite updating everything. Once an Apple product connects, the system will not accept anything else without 15 minutes of fiddling with settings. It will not take audio input despite the mic working for phone calls. It takes over wifi so you cannot use your phone as a hot spot while connected for the folks in the back. It is a total waste of money.

The radio will not hold fade audio settings. Installed in my 2016 Toyota Sequoia with JBL audio. Crutchfield has been great throughout this process and at the time of this review, I still hope the issue can be resolved without swapping the unit for a different brand. I've pulled the unit and reinstalled it half a dozen times. I've removed the iDatalink Maestro unit and re-flashed it three times. Crutchfield replaced the unit thinking it might be the unit, same issue with the replacement unit. IDatalink and Crutchfield seem to somewhat be aware of a preexisting issue? I did a firmware update to both units, no luck. I haven't been able to get through to Pioneer, Crutchfield is reaching out to them this week. I'll update if this unit can be saved.

Installed on my Toyota Camry Hybrid 2011. It looks great! Installation was pretty straightforward. I just have a couple issues with the features (or lack of) that the latest firmware has (3.0 at the time of this writing).
Pros: * Big screen * Carplay and bluetooth works nicely
Cons: * No way to have parking assist guidelines for backup camera on by default. You have to always click an icon on the top left to activate it after you go into reverse. * Homepage customization isn't great, you can only have 1 Maestro widget at most. Homepage can only support up to 4 widgets. * Seems like there's no way to add mute button on the home screen. Have to click volume buttons on the side first before muting. * Updating firmware was a pain

I absolutely hated this unit. Removed it and put the factory radio back in even after the 2.xx update. Then I read that the 3.0 was available and had some free time to re-install. WOW. It is a completely different radio now. It is one the best aftermarket units that I have owned/used. Everything works perfect and the lag and glitches are no more.
Pros: Large screen and lots of features Make the factory speakers almost sound good
Cons: Firmware has to be updated to work properly. A lot of wires to tuck into the dash. No quick way to remove the screen

Great sound and capability
Ken from Phoenixville, PA on 4/4/2022
2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Took a bit of time to install in my 2017 Wrangler JKU, but worth it. I bought this as a first step in a bigger overhaul in my stock premium sound system, but after installing this unit, I'm not sure I feel a need to do any further upgrades. Even just using the factory stock amp, the sound quality is vastly improved and I'm really pleased with both how the unit sounds and how it connects to my external devices (Android phone and Gen6 iPod). The Bluetooth connection is lightning fast and, blissfully, the radio and the device volumes are the same, so I don't get blown out switching between input sources. With a properly configured and connected Maestro unit, I retained all my original steering wheel functions, as well. One note: I expressly said having knobs was not important to me (and it's not), but I was way more used to using the knobs than I thought I was! If you have an existing system with knobs and are looking to move to this, be aware that having no knobs will likely be an adjustment, even if it's just a minor one. Crutchfield's "purchasing wizard" did a great job at ensuring I had all the parts I needed, but several of the instructions were "subject to interpretation." They took some time and experimenting to get through and figure out how the various parts related to each other. My only real gripe so far (and it's minimal) is that I can't figure out how to get the sports update panel to work. Other than that, it's been everything I
Pros: Great sound Easy switching between inputs Screen is large and awesome
Cons: Installation is straightforward, but a bit complex. Don't skimp on the time you allocate. Pioneer user guide leaves a bit to be desired for configuration and use.

I have had the unit installed for couple of weeks at this point. It is a solid system, with two minor annoyances. 1. For my car, you have to use the included microphone and GPS antenna. I have both included in my car's factory equipment so having to workout where the aftermarket versions will go is annoying. 2. Wireless CarPlay not connecting in some cases. I've not figured out why, but on two occasions I have needed to fully reboot the system (my car) to get the wireless CarPlay to pair.
Pros: Very easy to install. With some of the wiring harnesses and Crutchfield services, I felt like I had missed something, with how easy it was.
Cons: Relies on aftermarket GPS antenna and microphone. There could be an issue with Wireless CarPlay in some instances.

Very disappointed over this purchase. Worst Pioneer I have ever purchased. I can't get the CarAVAssist to work properly. It shows I am connected to the Wi-fi hotspot but I still can't perform the latest upgrade thru Wifi or USB. I have always known Pioneers to be finicky over the type of thumb drive, but it's the same drive I used to update to the V2.0 but know the firmware 2.1 I cannot get it to update. The screen is very laggy and slow, with this being the MAC Daddy, you would think the software would be on point. I miss my 4200 NEX with the tiny 7in screen. With the Holidays, i haven't been able to take time to contact Crutchfield support but i will hopefully this week
Pros: easy install, great size screen
Cons: hard to update firmware, slow motion screen, very laggy. not impressed. thinking sending for a refund

Beautiful disaster
Seth from San Francisco, CA on 12/10/2021
2013 Toyota Tacoma
Such a beautiful display, really sad that it was the cause of all of my problems. Crutchfield is awesome however and we're incredibly helpful and responsive through the whole ordeal. I purchased this to replace a JVC that constantly and randomly rebooted, and cut the music at every stoplight, not sure what causes that but it was annoying to say the least. The moment I installed this pioneer a ground loop became present, a loud whine was constant through all door speakers and increased in volume as I accelerated. I spent easily 40 hours pulling my truck apart and testing every ground possible. Many times on the phone with Crutchfield for hours. When I gave up, I took it in to a pro shop and they too told me my set up was installed well, and found no ground loops. At this point I decided it was time for it to go. I then purchased a Sony XAV9500ES and once installed, the ground loop was gone. Throughout my process of trying to remedy the ground loop, I researched a plethora of noise and alternator whine filters ( many of which I installed with no improvement) only to realize that a staggering number of the reviews for these filters mentioned that the issue happened after installing this pioneer line of units. The problem was the pioneer unit, which made me sad because the overall sound quality was far better than the high end JVC. The Sony unit is a vast improvement over the pioneer, except that it won't allow wired car play for my high res music file
Pros: Looks amazing and sound was impressive if it weren't for a built in ground loop
Cons: Caused me countless hours searching for a bad ground, then forced me to waste money to have a pro shop tell me that my install was exactly what they would have done and that all of my grounds tested perfectly. The unit itself causes a ground loop. Pioneer has really dropped the ball on quality control.

this unit looks amazing and the new screen is bright and wonderful, the sound quality for music is amazing just like pioneer has always been over the years!!! This is where the good ends unfortunately, the system itself is very laggy and buggy, the screen is a dust magnet, call quality and Siri sound quality are beyond sub par, very robotic and has a horrible echo!! (doesn't seem to affect amazing music audio). car play is buggy and have found that is listing to music on apple care play and make a call if the other person does not answer the radio keeps the music muted forever and you have to select a different audio source then back to car play to get the audio back.. reconnection on wireless car play is hit or miss.. let me explain, ima delivery driver and tend to deliver to my customers with my phone in my pock in case they don't answer the door I can call them without going back to my car,( hence why I bought a unit with wireless) sometimes it will reconnect sometimes I have to manually do it under bluetooth settings... the sad part is this was pioneers chance to really wow customers and move beyond their completion, unfortunately this slow laggy and lackluster radio is a disgrace to what used to be a very prominent brand!!!! I was a 30yrs fan and customer of pioneer that I am going replace it with the alpine 11 inch as soon they are in stock...
Pros: screen, audio quality
Cons: laggy, buggy, very slow, touch button have poor responsiveness calll and Siri audio are horrible

Very Impressive Head Unit
Crutchfield customer from Yacolt, WA on 11/16/2021
As others have stated, there is a bit of a lag, and you can only adjust the volume while listening to music/podcasts/etc, but those are the only two negatives I've found. Overall it's a great head unit. I'm very impressed, and feel it's worth every penny. I was considering replacing my factory JBL speakers, amp, and sub in my Tundra, but after getting the EQ settings adjusted in this unit, I realized the issue was with the factory head unit and not the speakers. This unit allows you to fine tune your speaker system to get the best quality sound. So getting the 8600NEX saved me from spending $4000 on a new JL Audio speaker/amp/sub package. I also like having multiple camera inputs. I use a front camera to see obstacles in front of me, when I'm off-roading, and did not have to give up my reverse camera. This unit allows me to leave the front camera on at all times while I'm driving the mountain trails, so I get a better view of how to navigate obstacles in front of me. Having wireless Android Auto is awesome, because I don't have to have my phone plugged into the USB port while bouncing around on off-road trails. I can now have my phone secured in the center console, instead of constantly falling into the floorboard. I also like the read and reply to text features. The unit translates speech to text flawlessly.

Pioneer WT8600NEX - WOW!!!
Steve from NOLENSVILLE, TN on 10/25/2021
2019 Nissan NV200
I ordered the Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX with some accessories a few weeks ago from Crutchfield. I have been on a couple trips with it and am very pleased with its screen clarity and Android Auto operation. My 2019 Nissan NV200SV came with factory CD/Radio/Navigation/Bluetooth, however the screen was very small and sometimes hard to read, plus it did NOT have Car Play or Android Auto capability (some Android however, constant drop outs). So I searched for a replacement with bigger screen and Android Auto capability, my research led me to Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, or Jensen. Unfortunately most were out of stock and I only wanted name brand with good reputation (chip shortage is causing many supply issues). I first installed new speakers in the doors, and then proceeded to radio install. The Metra dash kit was somewhat functional, however, ended up using my factory steel brackets that provided a better angle for the assembly & wiring. The electrical kit was ok (I forgot to have Crutchfield build the radio/accessory harness and ended up doing the cutting and soldering myself) which worked great. I wanted to keep my factory backup camera and steering wheel controls and Crutchfield recommended the Maestro SW. That was the most difficult issue- 2019 Nissan has a data system (CAN system) as well normal wiring. I finally got the volume & seek functions, no phone. Pioneer has that function - no problem. I can highly recommend the Pioneer 8600NEX with Android Auto - Simply
Pros: High end electronics for you vehicle that works great!
Cons: Expensive

Alot of Pros/Cons, However there is with every product. I like the way it looks and its responsive. The display quality is nice I feel like it's lacking in features especially coming from a Kenwood. However most things I can look past... Because it does look so good. The single worst thing about this unit is the fact that you can't adjust volume unless audio is playing. NO other time. If I'm listening to loud music and lose service, it stays at the loud volume and I can't turn it down without being blasted out. Same thing with a phone call/other sources. SUPER annoying
Pros: HDMI, Multi camera, wireless Android auto, excellent picture
Cons: No volume control unless something is playing. No volume ramping *like after a phone call it goes back to blasting music If I'm listening to loud music and lose service I can't simply turn the radio down. I need to change sources and get blasted out to turn it down. Not as feature rich with settings as Kenwood

Love this head unit - was able to install in my 2021 Toyota Highlander with minimal effort. Just took minor modifications to the factory steel mounting brackets (drilling new holes), and some bushings to help it sit above the air conditioning ducts. About $6 in hardware and a 1/8" drill bit (in addition to the Maestro unit and harness, etc.). The harness took more work than the fitment did, as it did not include a provision for the backup camera and required me tapping into a separate wire in the factory harness for the signal. All said and done, I love this unit. Love wireless android auto, love steering wheel integration, love the 10" maps. Very happy I was able to fit it into my vehicle.
Pros: Awesome features - wireless android auto, autostart android auto, etc.

Pro-Tip if you pay for the wire setup package make sure it is in your cart!!! The $24 pre-fab wires splicing package didn't save in my cart for some reason so I ended up having to do it myself. Annoyed at first but breaking the soldering iron out was quite fun. Even with that initial annoyance I could not be more impressed with this unit. Looks and sounds amazing. Even with the lag this is still 5/5 stars for me. With the HDMI input I am able to add a Chromecast with Google TV (remote & app system). Watching live football from YouTube TV account as we waited for our food was amazing. Splurge on the integration unit with the most features. It is really cool that I retain all factory features. Pricey but highly recommended unit.

I regret not reporting the infrequent reboots when I first installed the unit. It was so infrequent that I ignored it. Well, one month past the warranty period, the only thing it does now is reboot constantly...no sound, touchscreen is unusable because it reboots about every 3 seconds. It is basically a piece of junk sitting in my dashboard. I contacted Pioneer to see if they would be a good Samaritan and do something. I was told they escalated the issue to management for a decision. I'm waiting to see if they will do anything. if not, I will never buy Pioneer again.

Crutchfield customer from Kingston, TN on 8/16/2021
2006 Porsche Cayenne
REALLY nice head unit - does about anything you could want - I installed it in a 06 Cayenne Turbo with everything else OEM. It sounds great but it's crippled to just 2 channels because of Porsche system. I may invest in a separate amp and then new speakers. CRUTCHFIELD AGAIN put together accessories that lets you pretty much just PLUG & PLAY your new receiver/ head unit - THANKS AGAIN CRUTCHFIELD !
Pros: Does EVERYTHING !!
Cons: A little pricy compared to a few other units but have always bought Pioneer

I love this head unit. I installed it myself along with the maestro to retain steering wheel controls and vehicle information on my 2019 Toyota Tacoma. The only thing I was not able to retain was the microphone. I had to use the one that came with the unit. Oh well. XM Radio works great. Make sure you get the maestro add on cable to use existing satellite antenna. It can be a little sluggish sliding between screens. I also put an Amazon Fire Stick off of the mini HDMI port and ran it to my glovebox. Looks amazing!!

Pros: Upgrade from last pioneer that it replaced it
Cons: Price was a little more than I wanted due to COVID-19 no other brands available

Truly amazing upgrade
Crutchfield customer from Hillsboro, OR on 8/8/2021
I had the factory Nav in my 2001 Ford Raptor. I wanted an upgrade and was looking to add Apple Carplay. I wasn't sure if the unit would fit in my 2011 Ford Raptor. It turned out to fit perfectly. I can see and get to all the buttons on my dash. Paired this with the Maestro RR2, I am able to retain the factory climate control. Along with a bunch of added features. Super happy with the product and Crutchfield's customer service is second to none.
Pros: Programmable buttons, retains factory controls, adds front camera, track mode, gauges, doesn't block any buttons, easy install, great customer service, adds wireless and wired Apple Carplay and Android auto.
Cons: I regret not doing it sooner.

DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!!
Scott from Riverside, CA on 7/22/2021
2017 Subaru Outback
This unit is nothing but problems for me. For starters, I can't use maps and listen to music at the same time, my radio doesn't memorize, and I can barely get my 12 max pro to work/sync with the unit. I've had the shop recheck wiring, everything looks great. Since I bought through Crutchfield, I am responsible for pulling the unit for a replacement, as well as shipping return costs. My local dealer said they would've taken care of everything for me. Now I'm out almost $500 and all it bought me is this review; which I could've lived without. I've wasted nearly ten days of my life trying to troubleshoot this thing. If you love yourself and your account, do not buy this unit. If you hate yourself, call Pioneer and deal with their customer service. Good luck!
Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: Everything.

This is an overpriced tablet. A limited function one at that. Pioneer used to mean something. This thing didn't output a signal to turn on my amp, or speaker level outputs. The functions are not what you expect and the controls are not intuitive.
Pros: Big screen
Cons: Function, the controls, the build quality.

So far it's an amazing radio. The install was a little tricky, since it's not quite like the older days, but with the technical support it was fairly painless. The radio itself seems to be really good, but there may be some bugs with the firmware. Switching from wired to wireless CarPlay sometimes causes the connection to be lost multiple times. Would I buy this radio again. 100%. The size of the screen, and pioneers years of good quality makes this a great radio.
Pros: Huge screen Backup camera Wireless CarPlay HDMI
Cons: Install tricky, but doable Bluetooth a little weak for phone calls

Perfect for a 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma
ron from NASHUA, NH on 7/6/2021

I purchased this head unit to replace a Kenwood DMX905S. I liked the idea of having a "floating style" head unit that is in a tablet format, has wireless android auto, and at least 2 camera inputs. This unit fit the bill perfectly. Installation wasn't too difficult ( have taken apart my dash more times than I care to admit to), and I was able to re-flash my Maestro OEM integration unit without trouble. The screen is large, and the ability to move/change tiles on the home screen is pretty cool. I haven't had any issues with glare. Great addition to my truck.
Pros: Large screen, wireless android auto, fast boot up time, regular firmware updates,
Cons: Android Auto split screen not active. Not a big deal, more like a "nice to have"

It's very nice! I liked the idea of the large screens but early models of the different manufactures screen resolutions were pretty low in my opinion. If you like earlier generation Pioneer NEX systems this one won't disappoint! The screen is pretty resolution crisp for the size. I'm having wireless apple CarPlay issues with this one though. It seems to cut out every 10 seconds or so. I will do a firmware update and hopefully fix it. Wired connection is perfect!
Pros: Great sound Screen resolution Screen thickness & overall design
Cons: Wireless CarPlay lags.

Really amazing replacement for the 2014-2019 Toyota Highlander OEM unit. Speakers sound clearer in my JBL equipt system. Highly recommend and appreciate the support from Crutchfield tech support (wish I'd seen the wiring guide link in my order info page as it would have saved me calling in). I preferred to solder and shrink wrap the wiring so I didn't use the tools recommended for purchase. Great looking and sound device. Even with ready harness service install had some glitches. Many harnesses in car not used (2010 rav4 JBL NO NAV). Tech support put me on the right path. Got it up and running. Touch responsiveness sometimes glitchy. And with latest iPhone update 14.6 connection with CarPlay is hit or miss. But easily fixed. Overall I love the unit. Bad support from Pioneer
Andrey from Glendale, AZ on 4/7/2021
Audio quality is great as long as you are using radio or streaming music. Phone connectivity for wireless CarPlay is quick and painless once it is set up. That is where the 2 stars come from. The rest is not great. When using hands free mode to listen to messages or making a call, the audio is distorted. Tried resetting the stereo and followed connection instructions to a T, still the same result. Alexa would not work automatically. I had to reset the wireless connection every time I wanted it to work. The whole point of the wireless connection is to leave my phone in my pocket and not have to fiddle with it while driving. The connection app from Pioneer is also crap and does not work. Never got it to connect no matter how many times I tried. I can accept that maybe something was work with this unit, so a called Crutchfield tech support. The gentleman that helped me was very courteous and was genuinely concerned about my issue. He searched several articles and tried to get to the bottom of the issue but untimely was not able to find a solution, he recommended I call Pioneer for assistance. I called Pioneer where I was hung up on several times then finally transferred to the wrong department. When I did get ahold of someone, the lady was rude very short and not interested in helping me correct the issue. She could care less about my problem and was more interested in ending the call to get on with her day. She was no help. Unit is being returned, will not buy Pioneer again.

Cons: Bad customer support from manufacturer

Very nice unit with tons of features. I feel like I know how to get about 40% of the potential out of it right now. It is doing everything I need it to do but seems like there is much more potential to tap into. The Pioneer Car AV Assist is a joke as you may have seen in other reviews. Could not get the firmware update to download throught AV Assist. No way, no how. Worked just fine via USB as long as it is the ONLY file on the USB (as clearly stated in the instructuions) and NOT in a folder. Waze is a little finicky at times. It is taking a lot of patience to get used to through Car Play. I have to go into the Hotspot screen on the phone and turn it off and back on to get the unit to hook up every time I get in the truck. You would think it would sync automatically like the Car Play or Bluetooth. Maybe I missied a switch somewhere. Let me know if so! Everything else is really pretty awesome!
Pros: Very versatile. Loaded with all current features. Great fit & finish. Very clean installation in the old truck.
Cons: No effective way to use the USB C to it's full potential. Could not find a finished way to make a direct USB C port. HDMI micro to standard cable should be included. Firmware update via AV Assist will not work.

Awesome 4runner Upgrade

2018 Toyota 4Runner
Bought this to replace my stock HU in my 18 4Runner. Huge upgrade!! Definitely woke up my Memphis component speakers and my OEM Audio Plus subwoofer. Had it professionally installed and had the wire harness prewired before being shipped so everything was super simple. The OS is pretty simple to navigate. Recommend an hour or so to become familiar with the system and to set up your preferences. The CarAVAssist app definitely needs some work. It took me a long time to figure out the wireless FireWire update but after a lot of forum research I finally got it to work. Unfortunately the instructions pioneer provided were not very accurate. The concept seems great but the app isn't very intuitive or user friendly. Overall the HU is great. Performance is awesome and the huge screen looks fantastic. Massive upgrade if putting in a 4Runner. The system is relatively new so I'm sure there will be several updates to improve bugs. Definitely recommend if looking for a high performing tablet screen stereo.
Pros: Massive HD tablet screen. Improves upon aftermarket speakers performance. Wireless CarPlay. Plug and play install. Wireless firmware updates. Multiple install options (height/angle). Modern sharp design. User friendly interface/OS system.
Cons: New system which has bugs to work through. CarAVAssist app needs a lot of work. Wireless firmware update is not explained very well. CarAVAssist app needs a massive fresh/overhaul.

Gave me the options to have my vehicle harness professionally solder for a small fee. And of course the vehicle instructional sheet was sent via email. The delivery was fast also with updates on delivery info. Once received took me literally 1 hour and a half to install that's no lie. I also call the on Crutchfield Tech line to reference the color matching and the plugs to connect . Didn't like the person I talked to she seemed annoyed with me because of the call . The screen is huge. Like, really huge. It resolution is amazing. It fits perfectly in 2019 4runner if you put it in the lower slot of the double din when install it. The sound is also a nice improvement over the factory receiver. Install went reasonably well, considering it was my first ever one. I installed with the Maestro RR, and between their two sets of instructions I was able to her the wiring harness figured out and connected. If I would have had more time, having Crutchfield connect everything would have definitely been worth the price, but I only had one night that worked for my install before a trip and didn't order in enough time. If you want a huge, brilliant screen with wireless CarPlay that modernizes any vehicle, this is great. One downside is if you connect to WiFi and it can't find the source, your screen flashes. I turned that feature off and no more flashing. Being able to pull my vehicle diagnostics is great. If can manage your climate control features on it as well, if your car is equipped. One thing that took time to get used to was how grainy the back-up camera looked. The camera just isn't good enough for the screen, which isn't pioneer's fault. That took about a week to get used. If you are willing to spend the money, because it is expensive, it is great receiver with tons of features. And that screen...
Pros: The screen The sound Wireless CarPlay
Cons: The price WiFi not connecting caused screen to blink

Great HD screen head unit Amazing Crutchfield Customer Service
Troy from Warren, OH on 8/13/2020
The radio is great but this review is more about Crutchfield customer service. I started with the 4660nex but when received realized that it was not a 720p screen like the other models. That was important for me because I wanted to hook up a Roku. So I called and Crutchfield allowed me to replace it with the 7600nex. I got the 7600 because I was worried about fit because Crutchfield stated I would need to modify my car because of lack of depth. I received the 7600 and it fit in my vehicle fine with enough depth. So after seeing that i would not need to cut my car I again called and asked to do an exchange of the 7600 for the 8600. I would of understood if they said no but they again allowed me an exchange. Crutchfield service is top notch. Also if you have a 2014 Kia Sportage LX without factory sub woofer this head unit will fit without any modification to your vehicle

The good news first- Wireless CarPlay and big screen are awesome Sounds great with speaker upgrades Bad news, and reason for only 3 stars- No real GPS navigation! It relies on your phone via CarPlay , which relies on an Internet connection to plan a route. If you have no bars, you can't route to a destination. If you set up the route before you leave, the map works and tracks your position, but if you stop it, it won't start again. Hey Pioneer, if you see this, it's an expensive unit! It should do nav as well as 7 year old Toyota. It doesn't!

Just installed this head unit in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Crutchfield said it wouldn't fit, so I had to do a semi-custom install. I used vehicle specific mounting brackets from Scosche and a wiring harness from iDataLink since I'm also using their Maestro RR unit to retain my vehicle's Uconnect features. Both the brackets and wiring harness made installation a breeze! However, since I was using the factory radio and climate control bezel, there were gaps above and below the single DIN control unit in the bezel opening where the factory 8.4" Uconnect screen used to be, so I used some 3/32" thick plexiglass sheets to fill in the gaps. The head unit itself is great! The HD screen is vibrant and crisp and the sound quality from all my audio sources is amazing. The wireless CarPlay works flawlessly too. There are a lot of settings and features that I still need to play around with, including the Amazon Alexa feature, but so far so good! The head unit only gets 4 stars though, because like other reviewers have stated, the interface is a bit laggy. Compared to Uconnect, it's definitely not as quick and smooth. Hopefully, some future firmware updates remedy this.
Pros: Vibrant and crisp HD screen. Great sound quality from multiple audio sources. Flawless Apple CarPlay functionality. Multitude of features and settings.
Cons: Laggy interface

Really good bright screen so close to perfect !
Crutchfield customer from Hardy, VA on 6/20/2020
So much want to give this a 6 star review, I'm giving it a 4 but with some updates I'm sure it will deserve a 5 star. I waited a good week before reviewing and giving a really good opinion. The screen clearity and brightness is perfect even in the sun, that is where this shines, the problem with it's close competition the Alpine 9" 309 is that you cannot see Waze or Google Maps, with the Pioneer that is no issue at all. As for the functions there are allot and took a while to get used to, at first I thought it was hard to navigate around but with time I learned everything and it was good, so be patient with it. There are allot of sound settings also and I'd say I haven't got that set right yet but I'm almost there. My only complaint is my iPhone won't connect WiFi hot spot without me going into my settings on my iPhone and cutting off hot spot and back on then it will connect, until u connect the screen will continue to blink like it is trying to connect to something.I learned cutting my phone hot spot on and off it will connect quickly . Anyways a really good unit and a really big screen, It has a web browser and works ok. I hope this helps some people out! I installed this in a Toyota Tundra !
Pros: Huge HD 720P Screen and really bright. Lots of options.
Cons: Takes time to learn

2006 F-150 install

2006 Ford F-150
I installed the unit in a 2006 f150. It was not recommended by Crutchfield but it worked out. I used the bottom slot on a double din adapter and just blocked off the upper with a plastic blank plate. Install was not too difficult using the documentation provided by Crutchfield, I have been using the unit for a couple of days and seems to work really good. Lots of menus here and have not even started to figure it all out.
Pros: Lots of flexibility in the screen mounting Build quality seems solid. Wireless Apple CarPlay! HD radio
Cons: Nothing was wrong with the install documentation from pioneer but if it was my first radio it would have been difficult. They could clarify the wiring more (this is not the first car stereo they have built after all)

I Really Like It - But It Needs Firmware Improvements
Crutchfield customer from Portland, ME on 6/10/2020
2015 Jeep Wrangler
I waited months for this receiver to be released. It has a beautiful UI, all the features I want, and looks so much better than the other floating head units. I have it in my Jeep Wrangler. It makes the Alpine Halo look old fashion. This looks like the screens you'd see in an Audi or a Mercedes. The downside is that the firmware is also brand new. The interface is a little laggy and glitchy. The touch screen is a little slow to be responsive. However, I am sure after a few firmware updates over the next several months it will improve significantly. I am holding out hope for this.
Pros: Sound quality Interface design Physical design of the floating screen
Cons: Laggy, glitchy interface probably needs a firmware update which will probably take a few months to arrive.

Great display, good connectivity

2013 Cadillac CTS
Installed the unit into a 2013 CTS-V. Not a bad unit. 10.1" screen, DSP, full 3 way xover operation if needed, wi-fi so wireless Carplay and wi-fi audio streaming. It works almost seamlessly, with the exception of the occasional burps and hiccups when communication between phone and receiver get jumbled. Threw it into my car running the factory Bose up front with Bose sub totally removed, and then ran an external JBL 12" powered sub in truck for low end. Active xover between factory Bose and sub. Display is clean, dashboard is customizable, HU sounds awesome with FLAC and hi-res. Installation was fairly straightforward except for the finicky little jeweler's screws used to hold the cover that hides the connection on back of the display. You need a jeweler's screwdriver with scotch tape or it will fall out and get lost while trying to install it behind the display. Drawbacks- sure enough, won't play at all with any ipod (pre-release it was claimed it did on this site). USB-C on back means it will be very finicky about an adapter. Owner's manual is a bit poorly written with very little explanation of the connectivity of the unit. Only other minor annoyance is the unit spits out an error message about my speed sensor being disconnected if I fire up Carplay and car is stationary. It's just a brief popup on the screen and it goes away quickly. If it's moving no error messages. Little glitches like that sort of take away the polish, but, par wi
Pros: Lots of connection options, DSP, 3 way active, Carplay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi audio streaming, FLAC support
Cons: Absolutely zero iPod support. Manual is poorly written. Minor error messages on screen pop up for no good reason if sitting still (missing speed sensor- won't do it if you activate Carplay while moving). USB-C connection is picky about adaptors to earlier USB style. Finicky / cheap cover on back of screen hiding cable uses jewelry size screws to attach, a pain if you're trying to work behind the display. Wish they used normal size screws.
