Kubota tractor cab install
Aaron from Blytheville on 8/20/2023
I installed a pair of these little gems in the roof of our Kubota tractor cab last week, to replace the blown out factory speakers. They fit just fine, and the sound improvement is amazing. I tried them with the factory, crappy stereo (before I replaced it) and they sounded good. Once I put the new stereo in, the system sounds pretty darn good for a tractor cab! These don't come with a speaker grille, but I was able to reuse the old grilles with a longer screw, so the install looks nice. Any Kubota install questions, shoot me an email; I'll share what little I know. It's a pretty straightforward process.
Pros: Affordable, fit in the stock location.
Cons: No speaker grille, but that's not a deal breaker.

Best 4-inch ever
Crutchfield customer from South Lebanon, OH on 7/30/2023
2005 Dodge Sprinter
Awesome little speakers. Full range sound, considering size. SPL is average, but most smaller speakers with high SPL sacrifice low tones for highs to get the higher SPL. Installed in conjunction with a subwoofer for a great sound from only a 30w/ch head unit.

Hardbody speakers
Amanda from San Antonio, TX on 10/4/2022
1997 Nissan Hardbody
I had one speaker not working so it's a good replacement. The options said no drill fit for these in my 97 Nissan hardbody but I had to make a bracket and drill into that just to make it fit in my door. Took a little longer than expected to install but they work okay. I can't turn them up too loud without muffled sounds but they work for a lower no bass option.
Pros: Plugs in easily
Cons: Not great sound and no bass can be played through them without sounding like they are staticky.

Not worth the price
Derrick from Sunrise, FL on 8/25/2022

Pretty unimpressive. If this is the caliber speaker that you are after.....go to your local big box or auto parts stores where you can get a 4way speaker for considerably less with better sound.
Pros: They're Pioneer
Cons: Your cell phone speaker will sound better

Speakers sound fine, I thought it would fit my center dash but the holes didn't line up at all. Had to drill new holes. Also the Crutchfield wiring harness didn't connect straight up to stock connector. Had to trim connector. Pretty annoying install.

1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SL
Bought these to replace a worn out set of original in dash speakers in my 78 Mercedes R107. While I knew they would sound better than the OEM speakers, I didn't have high hopes as the installation cavity was open in the back and the speakers are small. I assumed it wouldn't be possible to get much bass out of these units, but I was pleasantly surprised. For the price point, they provide a great sound and were a huge improvement.
Pros: Good frequency response, even from an open back enclosure.
Cons: Non, as long as your expectations are reasonable. These speakers will not provide the sound of a much larger unit.

Scion xB owners: make sure you get the right harness!!
Brian from St Petersburg, FL on 5/21/2022
2006 Scion xB
I installed these in the front dash corners of my 2006 Scion xB. They ABSOLUTELY FIT, despite what Crutchfield's site says; you just have to bend down two of the mounting ears. ALSO, you MUST ask for the Metra 72-8107 Speaker Wiring Harness, because Crutchfield doesn't seem to realize that these only fit in the dash, and they will send you the wrong harness (72-8104, which are used for the front doors and the far rear sides). Aside from that, I would recommend bass blockers, as these distorted without them. I am running a factory head unit with no amplification, and they still distorted even at medium-low volume. Once I installed the bass blockers, though, these have sounded amazing - such an improvement over my stock dash corner speakers! Would highly recommend to other 1st-gen xB owners!
Pros: Great fit, crisp highs and mids that really wake up your factory system!
Cons: Crutchfield has the harness listed incorrectly for 1st-gen Scion xB owners; you must ask for the Metra 72-8107 harness! Also needed bass blockers in my case.

Big Sound, Little Speaker!
Spencer from Saint Louis, MO on 4/12/2022
1996 Toyota Corolla
Good speaker for the price. Not a "tinny" sound from a tiny speaker. Install was a breeze in my 1996 Corolla DX. Running from a Pioneer head-unit. does take some time to dial in for different genera of music. To be fair, I have an older head unit to be upgraded next. Great replacement for OEM's.
Pros: Does not sound "tinny" in a front door mount. Easy install for Corolla DX. Good range, not GREAT. But much better for my daily commuter.
Cons: Install instruction, if it's your first DIY install. Useful but, stop. Think it through and proceed. Probably useful in other applications. No fault of the speaker or Crutchfield.

Not near the sound I expected
Sandra from Mc Calla, AL on 3/13/2022

Easy install to replace a busted factory speaker in my 87 Toyota pickup. I was really disappointed that the factory 4" dash speaker was louder than these I was replacing them with. I almost left the one good factory speaker but the sound was so much different, it would have bothered me knowing.
Pros:
Cons: Not as loud as the 1987 factory 4" speaker.

It wasn't a critical application, but tge speakers sound good and the instructions provided by Crutchfield made everything very easy, as usual.
Pros: Great & detailed installation instructions from Crutchfield.
Cons: Had to drill holes in plastic. No big deal and the information was provided prior of ordering tge speakers (due to non standard mountain holes of the factory speakers, drilling new holes is required fir any aftermarket speakers).

So these are still a mystery to me. They didn't handle that much volume before the lows distorted and you could hear thumping (not the kind you want to hear), as if it was rattling something. I at first thought it was the door panel, but they seem to do it even without the door panel attached. I might try some cross overs, maybe take some pressure off each tweeter & woofer by splitting up the frequencies. That might allow it to handle more volume, but otherwise it disappointed me in the lack of low end presence I ended up with (a thin sound), and it's inability to handle volumes. It's still a work in progress though, they're not totally a write-off yet.

The speakers are great- they installed easily and Crutchfield supplied everything I needed- the mounting plates, wiring harnesses and screws. They even E Mailed me the instructions right after I placed the order. Communication was also excellent, I received the speakers in 1.5 days, free shipping. My GF and I installed them and are now enjoying good music in our Jeep Wrangler. I would buy from Crutchfield again and highly recommend them.

Big improvement!

1972 GMC C Series
Our 72 GMC came with a Highliner headliner, with four 4" speakers. We added the Retrosound Laguna head unit, but it still sounded like my first transistor radio in 1968. Zero bass, and tinny. The TS-G400 were a drop in replacement, and installed with minimal hassle. Huge sound improvement! Solid bass, good enough for us, but not the kid stuff rattle the windows a block away bass. Cost/benefit ratio was well worth it.
