Panasonic's CQ-C8303U CD player brings your sound system the best of both worlds: great looks and great performance. Its motorized faceplate comes loaded with a full color Organic EL display that offers amazing visual depth and detail that's sharp and readable in any light. You can even load your own images and custom slide shows into the display with Panasonic's PICT software.

Sound-wise, the stereo's onboard amplifier packs enough power to deliver clean, clear sound from all of your recordings. Six preset tone curves and a 7-band equalizer give you all the tools you need to overcome any shortcomings in your car's acoustics.

The CQ-C8303U will keep you entertained — it plays back discs loaded with MP3 and WMA music files and it'll control a Panasonic satellite radio or CD changer. Connect your iPod to Panasonic's optional iPod interface and control playback right from the faceplate. You can also use the auxiliary input to add a portable music player or other external source to your mobile audio system.

Three sets of preamp outputs make it easier to build a system, and you even get frequency filters for optimizing the stereo's output for your speaker setup. Use the CQ-C8303U's built-in subwoofer controls to manage your bass. And if you're looking for some extra bass reinforcement without a sub, Panasonic's "Super Bass Control Subwoofer" feature can direct the bass to your large rear speakers.

Motorized Sliding Face: The CQ-C8303U features a motorized sliding detachable face with a large bright display. When you press the eject button, the face slides down to allow you to insert or remove a CD. For best visibility, you can utilize the 3-stage tilt function to angle the faceplate at 15°, 25°, or 35°. When the security function is activated, an alarm will sound and a message will appear to remind you to remove the faceplate. After the faceplate is removed, a flashing red LED warns potential thieves. A hard plastic face case is supplied for carrying your detached faceplate.

512 Color OEL Display: The 512 color OEL (Organic Electro Luminescence) display has 256 x 64 pixels for impressive clarity. OEL is a self-illuminating display technology that is easy to read, with a wide viewing angle and about five times the contrast of an LCD screen. Well suited to displaying motion graphics, OEL has rapid low-temperature response time for reduced ghosting and flicker compared to LCDs. The display offers 4 motion patterns and 10 still pattern presets to choose from, or you can set the display to automatically cycle through all of the motion patterns or still images.

Customizable Display: In addition to the built-in images, you can customize the display by downloading additional images from a special Panasonic website or use your own digital images processed with Image Studio software. New images are burned to a CD-R or CD-RW and uploaded to the head unit.

Day & Night Design: The CQ-C8303U has Panasonic's popular Day & Night Design. During the day, the faceplate has a sleek, black design. At night, a series of blue LEDs around the frame of the nosepiece and around the circumference of the two main buttons gives off a blue glow.

MP3/WMA Compatible: The CQ-C8303U can play MP3 and WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs in ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Apple Extension to ISO 9660, Joliet, and Romeo. The player can support up to 511 files, 255 files in one folder, 8 levels, and 255 folders.

Auxiliary Input: A set of female RCA jacks is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable cassette, MD or MP3 player to this unit, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

3-Level Dimmer: The display's brightness can be set to one of three dimmer levels.

CEA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by Panasonic for the built-in amplifier comply with the CEA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

Subwoofer Output: In addition to front and rear preamp outputs, the receiver has a non-fading, two-channel subwoofer output. You can adjust the volume of the subwoofer output from -6dB to +6dB in 2dB increments. In addition, you can set the frequency of the built-in low pass filter at 80Hz, 120Hz, or 160Hz.

High Pass Filter: The CQ-C8303U features a high-pass filter for the full-range front and rear channels. The filter can be set to 90Hz, 135Hz, 180Hz, 225Hz, or Filter Off.

Sound Quality (SQ7): In addition to the bass and treble adjustments, the unit's Sound Quality 7 functions allow you to set the level of each of 7 bands by +/-12dB at the following frequencies: 60Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 3kHz, 6kHz, or 16kHz. There are six SQ7 presets:

  • SQ-Rock: speedy and heavy sound; exaggerates bass and treble
  • SQ-Pop: wide-ranged and deep sound; slightly emphasizes bass and treble
  • SQ-Vocal: clear sound; emphasizes middle tone and slightly emphasizes treble
  • SQ-Jazz: jazz-specific deep sound with emphasis on sharpness of high-hat and echo of saxophone
  • SQ-Club: club and disco specific sound: reproduction of realism being in a club
  • SQ-Flat: flat frequency response; no emphasis applied

Substitutional Subwoofer: When a subwoofer is not connected, the rear speakers can be used as a substitute subwoofer. When SBC-SW (Super Bass Control--Subwoofer) is activated, the settings for the subwoofer level and low pass filter are activated.

Built-in Amp Control: When you are using external amplifiers, you can turn off the receiver's internal amplifier. When deactivated, an "Amp Off" icon appears in the display.

Mute/Attenuate: This unit allows you to choose between mute (volume at 0), attenuate level 1 (volume decreased by 10 steps), or attenuate level 2 (volume decreased by 5 steps) when you want to decrease the volume instantly. After selecting mute or attenuate 1 or 2 in the menu, pressing the Mute button activates either function and the Mute indicator light glows in the display.

Direct Memory (D-M): You can store a favorite station into Direct Memory. You can immediately tune to that frequency at any time, even if the unit is turned off, by pressing the D-M button.

Remote Control: The CQ-C8303U is equipped with a wireless remote control (EUR7641010). The dimensions of the remote are: W=1.64", H=0.664", L=3.762". The remote is powered by a CR2025 lithium battery (supplied).

Display Note: Pressing and holding the Source button turns the unit off completely. After the unit has been turned off, you can use the DISP button to switch the clock display and face/button illumination on and off. If you leave the clock display and face/button illumination on, they are "keyed." If you turn the clock display and face/button illumination off, they only turn on when the unit is turned on ("unit on" operation).

Note: The Source button stays lit even with the clock display and other button illumination turned off.
