Technics SU-GX70
Andrew from Minneapolis, MN on 7/9/2025
This is a very good amplifier with some significant weaknesses that I hope will be fixed with updated firmware/app development. The app itself is minus one star. It's slow, it's not very well laid out, etc. -- all the things pointed out in other reviews. Two particular bugs when using airplay were notably frustrating: it would pause/disconnect airplay when I opened the technics control app. And it would (seemingly randomly) set the airplay output volume to minimum which makes it seem like airplay isn't working at all. I had to do a factory reset once during my trial period because all the streaming services stopped working and disappeared as options from the amp. The technology in this amp is really cool but there are so many missed opportunities. The lack of a dedicated (or not) subwoofer out/bass management is a glaring omission. I couldn't find a "mono" function. The room correction is generally very good, but I wish it was less of a black box approach. Would have loved to tweak the target curve but having to add eq on top of the correction feels clunky. No ability to save room corrections for different speakers. All that said, there was no issue with power despite the supposedly low rating. Clarity is amazing on this amp. I found I did not have the same emotional connection to music using this amp when compared with my current separates that includes a tube preamp. The hope was it would be close enough that I could ditch separates, but I couldn't quite get the
Pros: One box solution Room correction is good No problems with power
Cons: App Full potential is not unlocked yet Lack of emotional engagement

Very glitchy
Jonathan from Charlottesville, VA on 1/2/2025
Extremely glitchy, to the extent that I've given up on it after a year. Just a few of the headaches (note that I have a very strong mesh network with no other problems on any other devices, with the receiver right next to the router): - It randomly forgets my Wi-Fi network. Sometimes I can just go to the settings to reconnect, but most of the time it's in a strange half-disconnected state that requires a factory reset. - The app is slow and inconsistent. Even when the receiver is connected to Wi-Fi, it sometimes won't show up in the app until I've forced it to refresh. It takes a very long time to load any of the streaming apps and even longer to paginate tracks. This makes it highly impractical as a playback app. Which means you'll need to rely on external casting/connect apps, but... - Chromecast and Tidal Connect are very inconsistent (despite working predictably on other devices, some of which are further from the router). In both cases, it's apparently random whether the casting/connecting will actually play through the receiver. It does work much of the time, but not always, and there's no clear reason why. Restarting the device sometimes helps. Tidal Connect is mostly unusable much of the time -- there's no buffering, or other streaming problems that make the music pause every second or two. Again, sometimes it works, but you just can't count on it. I've given 2 stars instead of 1, however, because it works and sounds great if you're not tr

Get off the hamster wheel
Ryan from Orlando, FL on 6/24/2024
I've been amazed my the GX70 ever since I opened the box. It feels like it punches way above the advertised 30w/channel. My primary listening happens in a nearfield desk setup with Elacs, but when I tried it in my living room, everything still sounded incredible with ease. I was sold after watching numerous youtube reviews that will provide way more insights than my own. Half the reason to buy this piece is all the features. It replaced 5 pieces for me in one and does it all significantly better. It's a huge relief to not have to worry about the next DAC, streamer, headphone amp, DSP, or connection anymore because this does it all. The GX70 will be in my collection forever and I look forward to building my setup around it for years to come.

Great sound but has technical glitches
Mohit from Sunnyvale, CA on 4/16/2024
First impressions: Good looking product, especially in black. Though I wished the remote matched the color of the amp. I tested this amp with Spotify and the sound was great overall with good detail and definitely enjoyable. Had this on a 2.1 setup (B&W 600s towers and 608 s/woofer). I found it to be a little heavier on the bass, but that was solved after I dialed down the bass on the sub + changed the tone on the amp to a degree. But... I ended up returning it. Why? I just couldnt make it work with Chromecast or get their technics app to work (on Android). I spent hours trying to figure this out. Technics/Panasonic doesnt have live tech support and had to open a ticket. Ended up calling Crutchfield tech support. But we were not able to resolve the issue jointly either. So in the end I requested a RMA and am sending this unit back. Ben (Crutchfield) was super helpful through the whole process. Such a shame that I'm returning this, but they have the strangest app that wont recognise the amp and kept sending me to google home to get connected to chromecast first. And google home didnt detect this unit either on wifi or using wired connection. As much as liked the sound I couldnt reason having a modern day device that will limit what connections I can use with it. Maybe someone who has an iOS device has better luck.

One killer amp!
Blaine from MAPLE VALLEY, WA on 2/29/2024
Absolutely love this thing. I searched long and hard for a "super integrated" amp to serve as the heart of a 2.1 mixed use system. This amp is so revealing with music. I'm literally hearing so many nuanced details in my favorite tracks. Its modest power rating gave me pause, but it checked so many boxes for me I ended up taking a chance - and I'm glad I did. The space tune room correction provides ultimate flexibility and allows me to get the sound I want for music and movies.

The best sounding 30w/ch I have ever heard!
Gerry from Guayanilla, PR on 11/28/2023
Elegant minimalist design with solid build quality and perfectly detailed finish. This is not the common Japanese designed hifi amp. It's a statement. Plenty of inputs even MM Phono and HDMI eARC and a preamp out for a subwoofer or external amp. This amp reproduces music in a clear and detailed way. Every sound is represented in its rightful place and intensity, nothing exaggerated or attenuated. Very natural sounding amp. Clear and airy highs, natural and detailed mids, defined lows that reach subsonics with ease. Although in my setup I prefer a little more energy in the lows, so I added a Jamo C912 sub woofer. I have tested it my living room audio setup and bedroom (its final location). It can fill small to medium size rooms with good amount of sound easily . A good pair of efficient speaker is a plus but with can do well with speakers of at least 88 or 89dB SPL. Everything can be selected, controlled and adjusted via the Technics Audio Center app in your phone or tablet. Don't use the remote at all. Even turn the power on and off with the app. Nice little amp that can do all, give it a try, you'll be amazed!
Pros: Clear and natural sounding amp. Elegant design. Minimalist appearance. Plenty of inputs and outputs. The right size for your bedroom audio system. Everything control, setting and power on/off at the palm of your hand with the Technics Audio Center app.
Cons: For some tastes a little bit more dynamics in the bass.
