About the JL Audio MX600/3

Power your music on water or land

Power your music on water or land
Few things are more pleasurable than playing loud music while you're out tearing it up off road or on the water. JL Audio's MX600/3 compact 3-channel amplifier can send 75 watts RMS each to a pair of speakers, plus 400 watts RMS to a subwoofer, so you'll enjoy your music's clarity, rhythm, and impact over all the noise of you having fun.
Weatherproof
The MX600/3 comes equipped to overcome the dangers of weather, dirt, and corrosion, thanks to a tough aluminum chassis with gasketed control and connection covers. And you won't have to worry about getting caught in the rain — this amp carries a full IPX7 rating against water intrusion, so it'll play on through a storm. (It can survive being 39" underwater for up to 30 minutes.)
Compact technology
JL Audio's NexD™ Class D amp technology delivers full-range power efficiently and with low distortion. You'll get remarkable sound quality from an amp that fits into the kind of tight spots often found in marine applications. It's also ideal for your motorcycle, ATV, golf cart, tractor, or any other vehicle using a 12-volt charging system.

Product Research
Features
3-Channel Amplifier: The JL Audio MX600/3 compact 3-channel Class D marine amplifier is designed for the harsh marine environment. Its IPX7 water-resistance rating (immersion up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes) also makes it ideal for motorcycles, ATVs, or other utility vehicles. It can be used to drive a pair of full-range speakers and one (or two) subwoofers. You can also bridge the full-range channels to drive a second sub.
NexD Switching Technology: The MX600/3 employs an advanced, high-speed Class D switching design called NexD that allows the amp to produce serious power without overtaxing the battery and charging system.
Amplifier Ratings:
- Rated Continuous (RMS) Power @ 14.4 V (<1% THD+N):
- 75 watts RMS x 2 + 250 watts RMS x 1 @ 4 Ω
- 100 watts RMS x 2 + 400 watts RMS x 1 @ 2 Ω
- 200 watts RMS x 1 @ 4 Ω bridged (main channels)
- 300 watts RMS x 1 @ 3 Ω (sub channel)
- Rated Continuous
(RMS) Power @ 12.5V (<1% THD+N):
- 50 watts RMS x 2 + 200 watts RMS x 1 @ 4 Ω
- 80 watts RMS x 2 + 300 watts RMS x 1 @ 2 Ω
- 160 watts RMS x 1 @ 4 Ω bridged (main channels)
- 250 watts RMS x 1 @ 3 Ω (sub channel)
Input Section: The MX600/3's input section accepts a wide range of input voltage levels. It can accept a line-level signal from 250 mV to 4 Volts, or speaker-level signals from 580 mV to 14 Volts. The amp is equipped with separate Input Voltage switches for the front and subwoofer channel that allows you to choose Low or High level input signals.
Protection Circuitry: The MX600/3's protection circuitry automatically shuts the amplifier down if thermal limits are exceeded, a short-circuit is detected in the speaker wiring, or if voltage or current levels are too high. The green Power LED and red Protect LED will indicate conditions by its on/off or flashing status.
Controls
Control Panel: The amplifier's control panel is located on the bottom of the amplifier. The removable cover is held in place by six Phillips-head screws, and features a rubber gasket that seals out moisture and dust. You will need a small flat screwdriver to set the five switches and four rotary dials. The Control Panel is divided into separate Front and Subwoofer sections. The following controls are located in the Control Panel:
- Front Section: The two full-range channels have the
following controls:
- Input Voltage: You can select the type of input signal being used: High Level (speaker) or Low Level (line).
- Input Mode: The Input Mode switch lets you select how the signal to the front and subwoofer channels is connected. If "2CH" is selected, all 3 channels are fed the signal from a single stereo input. If "4CH" is selected, the front channels receive the signal connected to the front RCAs, while the subwoofer channel gets its signal from the Sub RCAs.
- Input Sensitivity: The Input Sensitivity Control is a rotary dial that lets you match your source unit's output voltage to the input stage of the amplifier for maximum clean output.
- Filter Frequency: The front channels have a non-defeatable High-pass Filter (HPF) with a variable cutoff frequency. The rotary dial lets you set the frequency between 35 Hz and 300 Hz. The HPF has a slope of 12dB/Octave.
- Subwoofer Section: The subwoofer channel features the
following controls:
- Input Voltage: You can select the type of input signal being used: High Level (speaker) or Low Level (line).
- Output Polarity: You can switch the polarity of the subwoofer output from 0° to 180°.
- Input Sensitivity: The Input Sensitivity Control is a rotary dial that lets you match your source unit's output voltage to the input stage of the amplifier for maximum clean output.
- Infrasonic Filter: The Infrasonic Filter is a high-pass filter that lets you filter out extremely low frequencies that many subwoofers cannot cleanly reproduce. This prevents possible speaker damage and wasted power. The Infrasonic Filter can be set between 20 Hz and 40 Hz, and has a slope of 12dB/Octave.
- LP Filter Frequency: The subwoofer channel has a Low-pass filter that is continuously variable from 40 Hz to 400 Hz, with detents at 80 Hz and 130 Hz. The HP/LP filter has a slope of 24dB/Octave.
- Bass Boost: The amp features a variable Bass Boost circuit that lets you raise the level of the bass by up to +12dB. The center frequency of the Bass Boost is 43 Hz.
Remote Bass Controller: The amplifier's subwoofer output level can be controlled from the front the vessel/vehicle using an optional remote level controller. For marine installations, or for installations that may be exposed to moisture, the optional M-RBC-1 is recommended. For standard installations (not exposed to moisture), the RBC-1 can be used. Both controllers have a 16.5-foot cable with an RJ14 plug that matches the remote level controller jack on the amplifier.
Connections
Wiring: The MX600/3's wiring is internally connected and exits the amp through a waterproof opening. The following connections can be found, each with 12" pigtails:
- Power: The power wire coming out of the amp is a single 8-gauge wire. JL Audio recommends a minimum of 4-gauge wiring for the power wiring. Since there is no fuse installed in the amplifier or on the power wire, you will need to install an appropriate fuse holder with a 50A fuse. Another fuse should be connected to the power wire within 18" of the battery.
- Ground: An 8-gauge ground wire is connected to the amplifier. A minimum of 4-gauge wiring is recommended for the ground wire. You may need a ground distribution block to splice the ground wires together.
- Remote Turn-On: A 16-gauge remote turn-on wire is connected to the amp. You should connect the turn-on lead to the remote turn-on output of your source unit. If the source unit does not have a dedicated remote turn-on output, the amp's turn-on lead can be connected to +12V via a switch that derives power from an ignition-switched circuit. Note: The amp does not have an audio signal-sensing turn-on, so the remote turn-on lead must be connected.
- Signal Inputs: Four female RCA jacks are provided for the input signal--Front and Subwoofer channels. If the source unit does not offer preamp level outputs, you can splice the speaker output wires to a pair of RCA plugs, or use the JL Audio XD-CLRAIC2-SW RCA-to-Speaker Wire Adapter. The amp's RCA connectors have waterproof caps.
- Speaker Outputs: Six 16-gauge speaker wires are provided on the amplifier for connecting to the wiring to your full-range speakers and subwoofer.

This amp rocks the boat. Exactly what I needed as I didn't want a separate amp for a sub. FYI the power and output wires are attached to the amp and cannot be removed for install.
