About the Scosche PowerVolt™ Dash Port

Dave Delamere

Charging power and clean look

Scosche's PowerVolt dash port lets you replace your vehicle's 12-volt outlet (aka cigarette lighter) with a useful charger for your phone, tablet, or other USB devices. Its USB-C port includes fast charging for many new devices, while the USB-A port provides a classic charging option. And if your car stereo has a rear-mounted USB port for wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the USB-A provides a pass-through for an easy-to-access port to plug in your device. In most cases, this port uses the same quick-slide power and ground connections from the current 12-volt output. But, its small size and flush-mount design mean you can mount it nearly anywhere you please — hardwiring would be required.

Really fast charging

The PowerVolt dash port boasts Power Delivery 3.0 for up to 27 watts of fast charging on the USB-C port, so your newer Apple and Android devices will get a boost of energy much faster than with regular 12-volt chargers. If you're using an Apple device, make sure you grab a USB-C-to-Lightning™ cable to plug into the USB-C port. And to protect the USB ports when not in use, there's a protective cover tethered to the port — definitely recommended if you're planning to use this in a marine environment.

More details on the Scosche PowerVolt™ Dash Port

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Scosche PowerVolt Dash Port (CPPDRLK-SP) is a dual USB port module that can be installed in your vehicle's dash for charging your phone, tablet, or other USB-C powered device. The USB-C port is compatible with Power Delivery 3.0 for super fast charging. It can replace your vehicle's 12V lighter/power socket, or can be custom installed. The Dash Port has a 12" USB pass-through cable that you can plug into your car stereo's USB port for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto use. It is covered by a 3-year warranty.

12V Socket Replacement: If your vehicle has a 12-volt Power Socket ("cigarette lighter"), you may be able to replace it with the PowerVolt Dash Port. Typically the 12V power socket has connecting power and ground wires that attach to the socket with quick slides. The PowerVolt Dash Port has positive and negative male quick slides (both ¼") that allow you to simply reconnect the power/ground wires from your vehicle. The dash port fits into a 1" diameter hole and fits flush into the dash. Two threaded locking nuts fit onto the dash port and tightens against the back of the dash to hold it firmly in place. If you have difficulty removing the vehicle's power socket, or if its placement isn't ideal, you can custom mount the PowerVolt Dash Port wherever you wish.

Protective Cover: The PowerVolt Dash Port features a protective cover that snaps over the face of the port to keep the USB ports clean and dry. This is especially recommended for marine applications. The cover is tethered to the port to prevent loss.

Power Delivery: The USB-C port has an output power of 27 watts for fast charging of your phone, tablet, or other USB-C powered device. This is compatible with Power Delivery 3.0 specification, which is the fastest way to charge iPhones (8 and later), iPad Pro, and many Android devices. For Apple devices with a lightning cable, you'll need a USB-C-to-Lightning cable, to fast charge your device.

USB Pass-Through: The PowerVolt Dash Port has a 12" USB cable that exits the back of the port. It is designed to plug into the rear-mounted USB-A port (or USB pigtail) of your car stereo to make it easier to connect your phone to the stereo for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. You can connect your phone to the Dash Port to enable CarPlay or Android Auto, and the cable serves as a USB pass-through to the stereo. A USB-C-to-USB-A adapter is included. The pass-through feature of the PowerVolt Dash Port cleanly relocates your Apple or Android connection from the back of your car stereo to your dash board.

Customer Q&A

9 questions already asked

Q
does the gm 12v connector work on this?
aftab  Mar 27, 2023
1 answer
A
I am not quite understanding your question, Aftab. This Scosche PowerVolt Dash Port lets you replace your vehicle's 12-volt outlet (aka cigarette lighter) with a useful charger for your phone, tablet, or other USB devices. The 12-volt outlet is no longer functional when the Scosche is installed. This will fit most 12-volt outlets regardless of vehicle make. I hope this helps!

Q
What diameter hole is required?
jeff  Feb 18, 2023

A
Greetings Jeff, and thank you for your question. The Scosche PowerVolt needs a 1 inch cutout hole.

Q
No power at USB-C PD port. The USB pass through works with Android Auto however. Is unit defective? Tested the leads for power and getting 12 volts from vehicle. Even tried on two separate vehicles.

A
Yes. This product is designed to allow for successful pass-through of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Q
Does this need to have power to it? Or do I plug in my phone and it will work on Apple CarPlay
kevin  Jun 14, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Kevin, and thank you for your question. I reached out to Scosche for this answer. The Power Volt USB type A would just need to be connected to the stereos USB port, the Type C USB port needs the Power Volt to be connected to a 12 volt source, as well as grounded.

Q
Any suggestions about connectors? I will need to replace the connector on the factory harness.

A
I made my on wiring harness using miniature spade connectors. It was about 3" long with the male ends plugging into the factory plug and the female ends plugging into the terminals on the USB adapter. That way I could always go back to stock if needed.
timothy  Apr 25, 2022
A
Good morning. I cut the 12v plug off and crimped on blue female spade forks. I was hoping the factory plug would work also but it was to big deal to crimp those on.
corey  Apr 24, 2022
A
Used two insulated female spade connectors and call it a day
luigi  Apr 24, 2022
A
Once the factory harness is exposed, you can cut it off exposing the positive and negative wires. Ensure the wires are not live. 22-16 AWG (Red) Female Spade Crimp Connectors can be attached to each wire, alongside some heat shrink. Once tight connections are made, you can slide the Female Spade Connectors over the prongs on the Scosche Dash Port. Ensure the positive wire goes to the positive prong, labeled on Dash Port.

Q
If I plug into the cigarette lighter plug and the 1.5a USB from the back of the stereo, will there be charging issues with both inputs providing power?
robert l  Feb 27, 2022
1 answer
A
From what I have experienced since installing this there is no issues charging. It appears the USB-C is powered by the 12V from the cigarette lighter and the USB-A is powered by the 1.5V from the radio connection.
