Product Research

Features

Overview: The Sennheiser RS 195 Digital Wireless headphone system consists of a pair of wireless headphones (HDR 195) and a radio frequency (RF) transmitter (TR 195). The system is designed to enhance the sound of your TV or your home audio source, and to give you the freedom to walk around your home with the headphones on.

Wireless Headphones: The HDR 195's wireless headphones feature a circum-aural (around-the-ear), closed design to significantly reduce background noise. The soft-padded ear cups and headband provide hours of listening comfort. The headphones have controls on the right ear cup: power on/off, volume up, volume down, and mode. With the batteries installed, the HDR 195 headphones weigh approximately 12 ounces.

TR 195 Transmitter: The transmitter connects to your television's or audio system's audio output via the included 3.5mm cable or optical digital cable (supports 2ch PCM only). You can switch between the two inputs with a provided toggle switch. The audio is transmitted on the 2.4 GHz band (2.40 to 2.48 GHz) with 8-FSK Digital modulation. The extended transmission range is approximately 328 feet (100 meters) without obstructions. (Typical performance with obstructions will be somewhat less.) The transmitter is powered by a 9-volt DC power supply/AC adapter. Adapter plugs for the US, Europe, UK, and Australia are provided, allowing for use in other countries. The transmitter doubles as a convenient charging cradle for the headphones. Transmitter dimensions: 4.96"W x 9.264"H x 3.96"D.

Listening Modes: The RS 195's transmitter features three listening modes for tailoring the sound to your individual preferences. By pressing the Mode button on the transmitter or the right ear cup on the headphones, you can select Normal, Speech (for clearer dialogues), or Music (for increased dynamic range for music).

Personal Hearing: The RS 195 wireless headphone system can be used to enhance your hearing. The Personal Hearing feature offers seven hearing profiles, each with different sound optimizations and hearing profiles. You can select the profile that works best for your personal hearing experience, using the rotary dial on the front of the transmitter (marked A through G), or pressing the Mode button on the headphone's right ear cup.

Balance Control: The left/right audio balance can be adjusted by turning the rotary balance control on the front of the transmitter.

Rechargeable Batteries: The headphones are powered by the two included "AAA" rechargeable NiMH batteries (1.2V, 820mAh). The batteries fully charge in approximately 8.5 hours, when placed on the top of the transmitter. Battery life is approximately 18 hours of use. Standard, non-rechargeable "AAA" batteries may be used in the headphones, but the headphones must not be placed on the charging cradle.

Auto Power Off: If there is no signal from the transmitter for more than 5 minutes, the headphones automatically switch to standby mode. If the headphones are outside the transmission range or switched to off for more than 5 minutes, the transmitter automatically switches to standby mode.

Specifications:

  • Frequency Response: 17Hz - 22kHz
  • Maximum Sound Pressure Level: 117dB at 1kHz, 3% THD
  • Total Harmonic Distortion: <0.5% at 1 kHz, 100dB SPL
  • Transmission Range: Up to 100m (328')

Customer Q&A

Q
I am using a Denon 6800 to power my system. It does not allow for wireless headphoneconnection. Could this Sennheiser unit be used since it can plug into the receiver and be transmitted by its sending unit?
robert  Jun 18, 2024
1 answer
A
The Sennheiser RS 195 wireless headphone system does feature an analog 3.5mm input for use with a variety of sources, Bob. You would need to utilize an RCA preamp output from your Denon (most-likely Zone 2) and connect with an RCA to 3.5mm cable in the link below as one is not included with the Sennheiser RS 195 headphone system. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_979CMR206/Hosa-Stereo-Mini-to-RCA-Adapter-Cable-6-foot.html

Q
Does Crutchfield sell just the head set? The goal for me would be to use one transmitter for two headsets.
dj  Jan 01, 2023
1 answer
A
Absolutely, Dj. The link below is for the Sennheiser HDR 175 extra headset. The HDR 175 is an additional (or replacement) headset for the Sennheiser RS 175 wireless headphone system. This allows two headsets per the same single base allowing two users to enjoy the same programming without having to purchase two separate kits. Two headsets IS the maximum per base, keep in mind. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_143HDR175/Sennheiser-HDR-175.html

Q
HOW TO CONNECT TO XFINITY CABLE BOX?
susan  Dec 02, 2022
1 answer
A
These fantastic Sennheiser RS 195 wireless TV headphones have a couple ways to connect, Susan. The most common is using the digital optical (or toslink) connection. If you are using a modern Xfinity X1 wireless TV box that unit should have an optical output. With the Audio Mode, you can choose from HDMI Audio Output (Stereo or Auto Detect) or Digital Audio Output: Optical/SPDIF (Stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1). This means that you can only output sound to your TV or the Sennheiser wireless headphones in an either/or situation with the Xfinity x1 box, keep in mind. Most modern TV's also have the optical connection, so you may be able to connect these directly to your TV too! I hope this helps.

Q
In clicking on the below question "What is the difference between the RS175 and RS195" I do not get a response. What is the difference between the 2???
howard  Sep 06, 2022
1 answer
A
The RS195 nixes the "virtual surround" and "Bass boost" features of the RS175s, and instead has 7 selectable profiles that can help improve the listeners experience. The RS195s also offers individual level controls for the Left and Right ear, as well as Three settings for "normal, voice, and music" on top of the 7 hearing profiles.

Greetings Puerto, and thank you for your question. You can use the Sennheiser RS 195 for any device that has an analog, or optical Digital output including computers.

Q
Can you turn down background music?
jimmy  Dec 21, 2021

A
We have a Samsung 6300 series TV which has audible adjustments made by me. I have selected the clear voice option on the TV, and it really helps reduce the loud soundtrack music played in most TV programs today, but it doesn't get rid of the loud music completely. Why they play the background music that loud I haven't a clue. The 195 has some settings in the instructions that came with it, to make adjustments in the frequency, but the adjustments there are not as significant as are the adjustments in the TV. Read those instructions about adjusting the frequencies and it may help. The 195 is an improvement, but not the end all to achieving perfect sound. Saying that, I haven't heard of a perfect fix to this problem. I might add that I am 75 and have lost a lot of my high frequency hearing from flying jets all my professional life, and I am also experimenting with different hearing aids as well. Sorry I can't be more help. JP

Jimmy - I purchased these from Crutchfield and love them. I am not sure, however, what you mean by "background music" and turning it down. In my experience, when you were these headphones, you do not hear any background sounds that are not coming thru the headphones themselves.
michael  Dec 21, 2021
A
Hmmmm...I'm not sure about what you mean by "background" music. But here's the deal: these headphones operate like all other over-the-ear headphones - they broadcast a single sound/music source to your ears. In the case of the RS 195, the sound source is from your connected television. So you can turn the volume up or down just as you would the volume control on your TV. It is also important to recognize that each sound source can be regulated independently. In other words, you can have the external speakers on the TV set to a "high" volume and the RS 195 speakers set to a "low" volume. Jimmy, I hope this answers your question. Kay & Skip

Can the RS195 perform duel function. Connect with me and let others hear at the same time ?

I bought them for my wife so she can better hear the TV in the next room so that when I'm working in the office next to her TV room I won't be disturbed as she has some hearing impairment that requires her to make the volume a bit loud. If you mean will it support two headphones, I believe the answer is yes, but you have to buy the second pair separately. I bought a splitter for the optical cable out since I have a sound bar hooked to this TV and need the convenience of having the out connect to two inputs simultaneously.
john  Mar 06, 2021
A
The answer is yes. The head phones are completely separate from the TV or stereo volume. You can turn the volume up or down and it has no effect on what's coming out of the TV or stereo. These are the best I've had and I've had a lot over the last 55 years.

I haven't tried using them for anything other that TV. The transmitter is connected directly connected to the back of the Samsung TV. I don't know anything about the Amazon connection.
james s  Feb 18, 2021
A
I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. I bought the 195, and an accompanying 175, which is basically just an extra headset without another transmitter/ charging stand. They both receive a signal from the 195's transmitter/ charging stand. The guys at Crutchfield explained this to me before I bought the headsets. if you were to buy two 195's the cost would be around nine hundred. Doing it this way saves about two- fifty. Hope this answers your question.

Q
I have a RS-195 hooked up to the optical audio (Toslink) output of my TV. When watching cable or TIVO, the headphones work fine. When watching anything on the Amazon Firestick, nothing comes through. All of the above can be heard through the TV speakers. What am I doing wrong?

I had a similar problem with my 185 series headphones. Switching from toslink to an analog connection solved it for me.
