This cycling computer's preloaded Garmin Cycle Map lets you know your current location and what's coming up during your ride, and it can generate new routes with turn-by-turn prompts based on your location and distance through Garmin Connect. And there's a lot more as well, including smart connectivity features, eBike compatibility, and some great safety features.

Edge Explore 2 and Edge Power Mount

Edge Power Mount taps into your eBike's power

Stay powered up

There's nothing worse than draining your bike computer before the ride ends. With the included Edge Power Mount, your eBike can constantly charge up Edge Explore 2 while you ride. You'll need a charging cable (sold separately) for your specific eBike brand.

Learn the best routes

Edge Explore 2 comes equipped with a preloaded base map, plus a 16 GB internal memory for downloading additional maps. You can build routes on Garmin Connect, Strava, and other popular apps for whatever kind of riding you like. Got an eBike? Explore 2 can route you based on range, battery status, and level of power assist. Add a Power Mount, and your eBike can even keep this computer charged up while you ride. Speaking of power, with 16 hours of battery life, you'll be ready for the most epic explorations possible.

Edge Explore 2 provides turn-by-turn directions and ride-type-specific maps. And when you tackle a big climb, you'll love the ClimbPro feature, which displays the remaining grade and ascent stats as you power up the mountain. When your ride is done, Edge Explore 2 will automatically transfer ride data to your smartphone, so you can share the details of your rambles with your circle of friends immediately.

Stay connected

Your loved ones will never worry about you when you have Edge Explore 2 and your smartphone. Pair with your phone and features like live tracking and social media sharing will keep them in the loop. If the worst happens, Incident Detection will notify your contacts if it detects a possible crash. Group tracking and messaging lets you stay in contact with all the members of your group ride equipped with compatible Garmin devices.

Safety first

Edge Explore is compatible with Garmin's Varia™ cycling lights and sensors, including their smart bike lights and rearview radar system. Add these systems and you'll not only be more visible to motorists, but you'll also know when cars are overtaking you with a glance at the screen of your computer. When you stop for a break, the PIN-protected bike alarm will notify you if someone moves your bike. InReach compatibility will keep you in touch even during the most remote rides.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Garmin Edge Explore 2 Power Mount Bundle includes an easy-to-use GPS cycling computer that makes your ride more enjoyable. The device has several Bluetooth-connected features, including Live Tracking, Incident Detection, Social Media and phone notifications, and live weather updates. It contains a pre-loaded Garmin Cycle Map, and has the option to add detailed maps via download. The Edge Explore 2 is waterproof (IPX7 rated). The Edge Explore 2 comes with the Edge Power Mount that places the device in front of the handlebars for easier, heads-up positioning and increased safety, and helps keep your device charged while you ride. The mount fits multiple sizes of handlebars, and comes with rubber pads to fit smaller diameter handlebars. The Power Mount allows you to ride longer, and enjoy the full performance from the device -- no reducing the display brightness to save battery.

Touchscreen Display: The Edge Explore 2 has a 3.0" diagonal backlit color touchscreen LCD (1.5"W x 2.5"H), with a display resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. You can maneuver through the menus and make selections directly on the touchscreen display. The display can show navigation maps along with your speed and distance, or show your elapsed time, speed, distance, elevation, and total ascent. With accessory ANT+ wireless sensors, your pedaling cadence, calories burned, and heart rate can also appear on the display.

GPS Navigation: The Edge Explore 2 has a built-in high-sensitivity GPS receiver. When it's difficult to obtain a GPS signal, you can enable Multi-GNSS which adds location data from GLONASS (Russian) or GALILEO (European Union) positioning services to your GPS signal for faster location performance. The time of day and the date are automatically set by the GPS receiver. The device has preloaded Garmin Cycle Maps, showing on-road and off-road routes and points-of-interest. Using billions of miles of Garmin Connect ride data, Trendline™ Popularity Routing shows you the best on- and off-road bike routes. The device is also compatible with optional detailed street maps and topographical maps available via download. The maps, in combination with the GPS, can guide you while you're touring, commuting, competing, or working out.

Smartphone Compatible: You can wirelessly link your device to a smartphone (Android or iOS) using the Garmin Connect Mobile app. At the end of your ride, you can transfer the ride data directly to your phone via Bluetooth. Using the app, you can analyze the details of your ride, or share it with others. You can also search out courses and workouts stored at Garmin Connect, download them to your smartphone, and send them to your Edge Explore 2 wirelessly. Real-time weather updates and alerts can be sent from your smartphone to your device.

LiveTrack: LiveTrack allows your friends and family to follow your races and training activities in real time. You can invite your followers via email or social media to view your live data on the Garmin Connect tracking page. Once they see your invitation, they can click to follow your progress on a map and see your stats.

GroupTrack: GroupTrack allows you to keep track of other riders in your group in real time while you ride, no matter how far ahead or behind they are. Using LiveTrack directly on your Edge Explore 2 screen, you can see other riders in your GroupTrack session on the map screen. A rider in your group can be selected from the list, and that rider's location appears centered on the map. In addition, you can send prewritten messages to other riders in your group. All connected riders in the GroupTrack session must be within a range of 25 miles.

Incident Detection: A built-in accelerometer can detect if you have difficulty along the route, and will send your location coordinates to an emergency contact. When an incident is detected, a message appears on your device and paired smartphone, indicating your contacts will be notified after 30 seconds have elapsed. If you do not need assistance, you can cancel the automated emergency message. You must be connected to Garmin Connect mobile app, with emergency contacts entered, for Incident Detection to properly function.

Bike Alarm: The Edge Explore 2 features a bike alarm that will alert you on your connected smartphone when your bike is moved while you're away during a ride. The alarm in PIN-protected, and can be controlled on the device, or in the device settings in the Garmin Connect app.

Controls: Most of the controls are located on the touchscreen. On the Home screen, you can access your bike profile, change your activity profile, manage your history, courses, and workouts, and start a new ride. During your ride, you can use the buttons below the front panel to start/stop the timer and mark a new lap without having to look at the screen. The power button is located on the left side.

Waterproof: The Edge Explore 2 is waterproof to IEC Standard 60529 IPX7. It can withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The casing is totally sealed, including the front-mounted controls. The USB port has a water-resistant cover to prevent corrosion.

Auto Pause: The built-in timer will pause automatically when it detects you're not moving, or when your speed drops below a specified value. The timer restarts when you resume your ride. This feature is helpful if your route includes stop lights or other places where you have to slow down or stop.

Auto Lap: The Auto Lap feature lets you automatically mark the lap at a specific position. This helps you compare your performance over different parts of a ride (i.e. a long climb or training sprints). You can also use Auto Lap to mark laps at a specific distance.

Data Storage: The Edge Explore 2's built-in memory (approximately 16 GB) stores at least 200 hours of ride data plus up to 200 waypoints, favorites, and locations, and 100 routes. You can download additional maps, if desired. The unit not only has an odometer to keep track of your mileage, but includes data on your last ride, longest ride, fastest ride, and all rides. Ride data can be sent to your smartphone via Bluetooth using the Garmin Connect app.

Note: The Edge Explore 2 does not have a memory card slot. Additional maps can be added via download only.

User Profile: The Edge Explore 2 allows you to enter data about yourself to create a User Profile. This data (gender, birth year, weight, and height) is used to calculate accurate ride data.

Activity Profiles: In addition to User Profiles, the Edge Explore 2 allows you to customize several activity profiles. You can create separate activity profiles for training, racing, and mountain biking. Each activity profile contains such data as activity totals, alerts, training zones (heart rate and speed), training settings (AutoPause and AutoLap), and navigation settings.

Garmin Connect: Garmin Connect is a free web-based or mobile application that lets you store your workout data for comprehensive analysis. Garmin Connect is used by cyclists worldwide, and presents your data in an easily understood manner, with maps, reports, and suggested activities. You can create fitness goals and send them to your device. As you complete activities toward your goals, they are tracked on both the device and on Garmin Connect. In addition, the Garmin Training Center software lets you track and analyze your fitness activities and create workouts to send to your device, without requiring Internet access after the initial download. Garmin Connect is available for the following devices:

  • Mobile: Garmin Connect Mobile is compatible with Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 14.0 or later, and Android devices v.7.0 and up.
  • Computer: You can download and install Garmin Connect on your PC or Mac using Garmin Express. It is compatible with Windows 7 SP1 or newer, and Mac OS X 10.11 or newer.

Performance Measurements: The Edge Explore 2 can track your personal statistics and calculate performance measurements. With optional ANT+ heart rate monitors, and other wireless sensors, your maximum oxygen volume (VO2 Max), an indication of your athletic performance, can be calculated. Other performance measurements can be calculated, including Stress Score and Recovery Time. These scores are graphically displayed on the screen in vivid color gauges.

Courses: The Edge Explore 2 can save your ride data as you train. From that saved data, you can use Garmin Connect software to create courses that you can follow in the future. Each time you follow the course, the unit will compare your time to previous rides, or to other riders, and let you set performance goals. As you ride along the course, the display will indicate distance and time to upcoming maneuvers.

USB Port: A USB-C port is provided for charging and connecting to your computer, using the included USB-C cable. A water-resistant plug keeps moisture out.

ANT+: In addition to the included heart rate, speed, and cadence sensors, the Edge Explore 2 can also pair with other ANT+ devices. If you can't ride outdoors, you can link to one of the Garmin Tacx Smart Bike Trainers to give you a realistic simulated ride indoors. Other ANT+ devices include wrist-worn remotes, sport watches, and power meters.

Varia Bike Radar/Lights: Garmin Varia Rearview Radar and Smart Bike Lights work with the Edge Explore 2 to keep you safe as you ride on the highway. Varia Rearview Radar can alert you of vehicles approaching from behind. Varia Smart headlights and tail lights integrate with the Edge Explore 2 and change intensity with your speed.

inReach Compatibility: The Edge Explore 2 can help you stay in touch with others when you're riding in an area without reliable cell service. When you pair the Edge with an inReach device you can view and reply to messages, share trip data, and trigger an interactive SOS alert (if you have an inReach subscription).

Power Requirements: The unit is powered by a built-in Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. It charges via the included USB cable when connected to your computer or an optional AC or USB power adapter. The battery charge level is expressed as a percentage on the display. Extremely cold temperatures will also reduce battery life. Battery life depends on the usage of certain features and the number of notifications and interactions per hour. The average estimated battery life is up to 16 hours, or up to 24 hours in battery-saver mode. With the included Power Mount, the device can be kept fully charged throughout your ride.

Power Mount: Bundled with the Edge Explore 2 is the Edge Power Mount which is designed for use with eBikes (electric bikes) to keep the cycling computer fully charged during your ride. eBikes (electric bikes) are like regular bikes with added electrical components (motors, batteries, etc.) that augment human power to make hills and headwinds seem more manageable. The Power Mount places the device in front of your handlebars for easier, heads-up positioning and increased safety. The back of the Edge device has mounting tabs that fit into the Power Mount. Once placed into the mount, the device can be securely locked in place by turning the locking lever clockwise.

Handlebar Fit: The Power Mount is compatible with 25.4mm, 26.0mm, 31.8mm, and 35.0mm handlebars. For 2.54mm diameter handlebars, you should use the included thicker sizing pad for a snug fit. For 31.8mm handlebars, use the thinner pad. If the handlebar is 35mm, no rubber pad is needed. The handlebar connector is hinged and the hex screw can be tightened/loosened with the supplied 2.5mm hex key. The tightness of the hex screw should be checked periodically.

Required Cables: The Garmin Edge Power Mount must be used with a proprietary accessory cable to provide power for the Edge Explore 2. Cables are available for Shimano or Bosch eBikes, plus a cable with a USB-A plug for Cannondale SmartSense bikes or other external battery banks.
