Features
Overview: The Garmin Montana® 700i handheld GPS navigator (010-02347-10) is a rugged, water-resistant device with preloaded topographical maps of the U.S. and Canada. In addition, you can download satellite views directly to the unit (Wi-Fi connection required) to help you navigate based on landmarks. You can stay connected when you're off the grid with messaging and SOS capability through the built-in inReach satellite network. The Montana 700i is powered by a Lithium-ion rechargeable battery, and comes with a USB charging cable. Optional mounts are available for motorcycles, ATVs, boats, and cars/trucks. The Montana 700i measures 3.4" wide, 7.2" high, and 1.3" deep, and weighs 14.5 ounces (including the battery).
5" Touchscreen: The Montana 700i is equipped with a backlit 5" (diagonal) touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. You can view and lock the display in portrait or landscape orientation, or switch between orientations automatically depending upon how you hold (or mount) the device. In the menu, you can set the backlight to stay on, or time out in 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes. The Battery Save feature, when activated, turns off the display when the backlight times out.
Battery Options: The Montana 700i comes with a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery (3.8 volts, 3100mAh, 11.8Wh) that fits into the back panel of the device. In GPS mode, the battery has an estimated battery life of 18 hours. To prolong battery life, you can switch to Expedition Mode, which turns on low power mode, turns off the display screen, and the device collects fewer GPS points. In Expedition Mode, battery life is extended to approximately 2 weeks (300 hours). Live tracking decreases battery life. The battery is charged while the included USB cable is plugged into a USB power source, including an AC adapter or computer USB port.
microSD Slot: The Montana 700i has a built-in 16 GB flash memory for the included mapping, and for storing your tracks, routes, and waypoints. If additional storage is needed for optional maps, you can add a microSD card up to 32 GB.
Rugged Build: The device is built to military standards (MIL-STD 810) for thermal, shock, water, and vibration. Its IPX7 water rating means the device can withstand incidental exposure of water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.
Map Options: The Montana 700i is equipped with preloaded topographical maps of the United States and Canada. The 15000 loaded map segments include elevations, terrain contours, as well as rivers, coastlines, and landmarks to help you navigate your trip. You can get clear views of U.S. federal public land boundaries, including National Parks, and National Forests, plus state and local parks and wilderness areas. The maps include parks, campgrounds, and other points of interest that you can search for.
Satellite Settings: The Montana 700i receives signals from overhead satellites from the U.S.-based Global Positioning System (GPS). In addition, you can set the unit to receive signals from GPS satellites, as well as signals from GLONASS (Russia) or Galileo (Europe) positioning systems. Enabling WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) helps to improve the accuracy of the GPS receiver.
inReach® Technology: The Montana 700i features inReach Technology, which enables you to send and receive text messages over the Iridium® satellite network. Text messages can be sent to an SMS phone number, email address, or another inReach-compatible device. You can send preset messages, or edit a pre-written message. To make it easier to type messages, the Montana 700i has a full on-screen QWERTY keyboard. When an emergency arises, you can send an SOS message to the GEOS International Emergency Rescue Coordination Center (IERCC) to request assistance. A dedicated SOS button is located along the right edge of the device under a protective cover. When an SOS is sent, a default message is sent, along with details about your location. You can interact with the agency during the rescue, if needed. If assistance is no longer needed, you can cancel the SOS request. The inReach subscription also offers weather information, including basic, premium and marine forecasts.
Wireless Connectivity: The Garmin Montana 700i features many connected features when the device is paired via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or ANT+. Pairing the device to your smartphone lets you use the Garmin Explore app to sync and share your routes, tracks, or waypoints to others. You can also use the app to download maps to your phone for offline access. Phone notifications will also be received on the device through the app. When connected to a Wi-Fi network, you can take advantage of many of the same features as when connected via Bluetooth. You must be on a Wi-Fi network to download BirdsEye Direct satellite imagery to the unit. Many add-on sensors, such as heart rate monitors, temperature sensors, speed and cadence monitors, can connect wirelessly via ANT+ protocol.
ABC Sensors: Known as the ABC sensors, the device's altimeter, barometer, and (electronic) compass help you navigate your favorite trail or find your location. The altimeter displays the elevation over the distance traveled. The barometer indicates the current barometric pressure. The Barometer Mode on the Altimeter shows the changes in pressure as you ascend or descend the current trail. The 3-axis electronic compass utilizes the GPS data to determine your heading. After traveling long distances, or if you experience irregular compass behavior, you can recalibrate the compass in the device's menu.
BirdsEye Satellite Imagery: The Montana 700i provides access to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery without the required annual subscription. BirdsEye Imagery lets you view detailed, high-resolution color satellite imagery on your device to give you a true representation of your surroundings. The images can be layered with optional TOPO or City Navigator maps for a real-life view of roads, buildings, and terrain. You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network before you can download BirdsEye Satellite Imagery directly to your device.
Active Weather: You can receive up-to-date Active Weather forecasts through the Garmin Connect app when the Montana 700i is paired to your smartphone via Bluetooth or connected to a Wi-Fi network with an active internet connection. Hourly and daily weather forecasts are available, plus live graphical weather maps.
Optional Mounts: If you wish to mount the Montana 700i in a vehicle, there are optional mounts available for purchase. You can adapt the device to use on a motorcycle or ATV with the Motorcycle/ATV Mount Kit. The Marine Mount lets you take the Montana 700i on the water. Both kits are available from Crutchfield, and contain a 12-volt power cable, as well as an audio cable. Garmin also offers a vehicle suction cup mount with a speaker, and a bicycle handlebar mount.

- communicates with your boat's Garmin chartplotters and other marine GPS devices
