General Features
Navigation Features

General Features

Overview: The Garmin RV 795 is a portable GPS navigation device that provides automatic routing and turn-by-turn voice directions. It is designed for recreational vehicles (RVs), and includes customized RV routing for the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With built-in Bluetooth, you can make and receive hands-free phone calls through a Bluetooth-enabled phone, plus receive traffic, weather, and other live services through the free Garmin Drive app. The RV 795 comes with a powerful suction cup windshield mount.

6.95" Touchscreen LCD: The RV 795 features a large 6.95" touchscreen display (measured diagonally) with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Not only can you see your route, but the screen splits to show upcoming turns, road warnings, live traffic and weather, fuel prices, and social media notifications, depending on how you have configured your device.

Preloaded Maps: The RV 795 contains HERE's City Navigator North America NT 2023 maps. Maps includes detailed coverage of the United States, Mexico, and Canada, plus Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, and Bahamas. In addition, the device has several map features specifically designed for RVs and camping, such as a directory of RV parks and services, National Parks, and public campgrounds.

Free Lifetime Map Updates: The RV 795 offers free lifetime map updates so you'll always have the most up-to-date maps, POIs, and navigation information. Map updates are available for download up to 4 times a year with no subscription or update fees and no expiration dates. Map updates can be obtained by connecting the device to a Wi-Fi network and directly download the maps, or connect the device to your computer and obtain the updates through Garmin Express.

Wi-Fi Compatible: You can keep the device updated with the latest maps and software without connecting it to a computer. When connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device checks for available updates, and displays an icon on the screen. The connected network is added to the list of saved networks, and will reconnect automatically when it is within range.

Garmin Express: You can connect the unit to your computer with the supplied USB cable for downloading map updates, custom POIs, voices, and vehicles. You will need to download the Garmin Express software to update your maps and register the unit. Garmin Express requires Windows 7 SP1 or newer or Mac OS X 10.11 or higher.

RV Parks and Services Directory: The Garmin RV 795 includes a directory of thousands of RV parks and campgrounds, as well as service locations in the coverage area. You can search for sites with various amenities, including hookups (full, electric, water, pull-throughs, dump stations), accessibility (pet-friendly, handicap, big-rigs), recreational (boating, fishing, swimming, cable TV, internet), and service (truck stops, towing, repairs, tires). Additional content is available from Ultimate Public Campgrounds, KOA, iOverlander, and PlanRV.

Customized RV Routing: The included maps feature RV-related restrictions, such as bridge heights, and related information for most major highways. After entering your RV's dimensions (height, weight, width, and length), the device will find routes that are suitable for your RV. While traveling, the unit will display the elevation grade of your current route. When not driving your RV, you can transfer the device to your car and use the "automobile" profile to stop receiving RV-centric warnings.

Avoidances: You can program the unit to avoid certain things that may be undesirable on your route. The device can avoid areas with environmental or emissions restrictions that may apply to your vehicle. Other examples of things that can be avoided include U-Turns, Highways, Carpool Lanes, Unpaved Roads, and Ferries. You can also add Custom Avoidances for certain areas and roads.

Bluetooth: The RV 795 has built-in Bluetooth technology. This allows you to sync the unit with a Bluetooth-enabled device for hands-free calling through its integrated microphone and speaker. You can make and receive phone calls as long as the devices are within 33 feet and paired.

microSD Card Slot: The RV 795 has a microSD card slot for optional map updates. Optional microSD cards, up to 256 GB, can be inserted to store and use optional City Navigator maps (available from Garmin).

Windshield Mount: The unit comes with the Garmin Suction Cup and Universal Bracket Mount. The mount has a 2.2" diameter suction cup for mounting the device on your windshield.

Power Requirements: The Garmin RV 795 is powered by your vehicle's battery using the included 12-volt vehicle power adapter and USB cable. The built-in Lithium-Ion battery will provide up to 1 hour of use after a full charge.

Optional Backup Camera: You can add an optional Garmin wireless backup camera, such as the BC™50 or BC™50 with Night Vision, allowing you to have a rear view of your vehicle while backing up.

PowerSwitch™: The optional Garmin PowerSwitch (sold separately) can be paired to the RV 795, allowing you to easily control your vehicle's 12-volt electronics. You'll be able to turn on/off connected lights, fans, water pumps, and much more, from the touchscreen of the device.

Navigation Features

Garmin Real Directions: The RV 795 features Garmin Real Directions with easy-to-understand driving directions using recognizable landmarks, buildings, and traffic lights, in addition to spoken street names.

Voice Command: You can use your voice to activate and operate the RV 795. Voice Command allows you to use the device by speaking words and commands and following the voice prompts. After speaking a predetermined Wakeup Phrase, you can enter the names and/or address of popular, well-known locations. If necessary, you can disable voice prompts without muting the device, so you'll still hear the audible directions as you travel.

Garmin Drive: Garmin Drive is a smartphone application that allows the device to download live data using your phone's data connection, and transferring the data wirelessly via Bluetooth. The free Garmin Drive app provides access to real-time services, such as live traffic, basic weather, live fuel prices, and live parking. Notifications from your smartphone, such as text messages, calendar reminders, or app alerts, are sent to the RV 795 for viewing. Using the app, you'll be able to view your travel plaza loyalty points from participating providers, including Pilot Travel Centers, all across the U.S. Garmin Drive is compatible with devices running iOS 14.0 or later, or Android 6.0 or higher.

Traffic: Using the Garmin Drive app on your smartphone, you can receive subscription-free traffic data for interstates and major highways in over 50 metropolitan areas in the continental U.S. from HERE WeGo. The app has a refresh rate of 1 minute. Garmin Drive also provides advanced weather radar and severe weather alerts.

Points of Interest: The built-in maps include millions of Points of Interest (POIs) from the vast Foresquare database, such as hotels, restaurants, gas stations, attractions, and ATMs. The RV 795 is also preloaded with a directory of RV parks and services (including US National Parks), as well as content from Ultimate Public Campgrounds, PlanRV, and KOA campgrounds. With the help of TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, you can view ratings for many of your destinations. A travel database from The History Channel provides additional pictures and descriptions of notable historic sites, monuments, museums, and parks.

Active Lane Guidance: Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts lets you know in advance which lane you should to be in to make an upcoming turn. In select metropolitan areas, the RV 795 will enter split screen mode to display the Junction View, a realistic depiction of the junction, complete with road signs and brightly-colored arrows to indicate the proper lane for navigation.

Map View Options: You can choose from a 3D map view or two 2D map views (Track Up or North Up) as you navigate to your destination.

Speed Limits: As you travel along a major road or street, the speed limit is displayed on the screen alongside of the vehicle's speed display. If you are exceeding the speed limit, a tone will sound, and the color of the vehicle speed indication will change to red. If the highway's posted speed limit has changed since the last map update, you can change the speed limit display on the unit.

Where Am I?: The "Where Am I?" feature gives you instant access to important information in case of an emergency. When you touch the vehicle icon on the map screen, the "Where Am I?" feature provides the coordinates (including elevation) of your current position, plus the nearest address and intersections. There are also buttons to help you locate the nearest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, and roadside assistance. You can also save the location for future reference.

Up Ahead: As you travel along your route, the Up Ahead feature constantly indicates the location of nearby businesses, including gas, food, lodging, restrooms, parking, and banks and ATMs. The locations are shown as icons, some with brand logos, and when the icons are touched on the screen, details of the services are displayed, and you are given the opportunity to navigate to that address.

Destination Search: When the Where To? button is pressed, you can use the search tools to find your destination and plan your route. The search tools allow you to search for cities, addresses, intersections, or coordinates. The Search Bar lets you directly enter a category, brand name, address, or city name. The unit's memory stores the last 50 locations you have found so you can quickly find a previous destination.

Trip Planner: You can plan your next RV trip using the Trip Planner app on the device. After selecting your starting location, you can add destinations until you trip planning is complete. The unit can automatically optimize the order of the destinations in your trip to create a shorter, more efficient route. Each trip you plan can be saved in memory until you are ready to make the trip again.

Trip Data: A shortcut on the map screen leads you to the Trip Data page. At a glance, you can see your direction of travel, elevation, two trip odometers (A & B), your average speed, as well as your moving average speed, the total time spent stopped, and the time of sunset or sunrise. Digging deeper into the page, you can view your maximum speed, total moving time, total trip time, the coordinates of your current location, and the GPS accuracy (in feet).

Where I've Been/Trip Log: The Where I've Been application allows you to view your previous routes and places you have stopped on the map. In addition, the device keeps a Trip Log, which is a record of the path you have traveled. The Travel History setting must be enabled in order for the Where I've Been and Trip Log features to function.

TracBack®: The TracBack® feature records the most recent segment of your trip, and allows you to retrace your recent track, back to a previous location. You can also save your recent track as a trip, which you can navigate later using the trip planner.

GPS Simulator: When indoors, you can activate the built-in GPS simulator and practice using the unit. This turns off the GPS receiver so it's not searching for satellites, saving battery power.

Service History: The Service History app lets you keep track of the date and odometer reading when service or maintenance is performed on your vehicle. The app lets you keep track of the following service categories: Air Filter Change, Brake Fluid Change, Brake Pads Change, Check Tire Pressure, Clutch Fluid Change, Engine Oil Change, Front Tire Change, Fuel Filter Change, Rear Tire Change, and Spark Plugs Change. You can add, rename, or delete service categories to customize your service list.

Q
Greetings, this model of GPS Garmin RV 795, if in the configuration it is not used with RV and is used in car mode, would have the same features and benefits as the Garmin DriveSmart 76 model ?
omar  Nov 08, 2024
1 answer
A
Yes, a comparison of the two does indicate that they are indeed similar; same screen resolution, GPS map coverage areas, junction view, etc...

Q
Can it be set to fastest route or shortest route?
david  Apr 10, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings David. Thank you for your question. The Garmin RV795 has a calculation mode with two options. Turn-by-turn mode will be the fastest route, but may be more mileage. Straight line mode will be the shortest distance, but could take a longer time to arrive.
thomas  Apr 10, 2024 (Staff)
