Product Research
Features
Overview: The Garmin SteadyCast is a nautical heading sensor that helps to ensure your vessel's orientation matches the heading on your chartplotter. SteadyCast can interface with your chartplotter via the existing NMEA 2000 network on your boat. An NMEA 2000 T-connector is included.
Accuracy: SteadyCast uses the earth's magnetic field to precisely determine your heading. It outputs its heading reading 10 times per second (10 Hz), and is accurate within +/- 3 degrees. The heading accuracy is the same whether your boat is sitting still or at full speed ahead, or in calm or rough waters.
Calibration: After the sensor is installed, it must be calibrated for best results. When connected to an NMEA 2000-compatible Garmin chartplotter, calibration is a menu-based function. Without a compatible Garmin chartplotter, the basic calibration procedure involves completing two full, slow, tight circles with your vessel to calibrate the compass and align the heading.
Installation: The SteadyCast module mounts with the supplied screws, and can be installed with the cable routed through the side of the sensor, or routed through the mounting surface under the sensor. It should not be mounted near a strong magnetic field (such as a speaker), or near ferrous metal objects, such as a toolbox or compass. As it is not a GPS device, it does not require a clear view of the sky.
Compatible Chartplotters: The Garmin SteadyCast heading sensor is compatible with the following chartplotters:
