Garmin zumo XT portable motorcycle navigator

Waterproof construction

No matter the weather forecast, you can ride with the zumo XT confidently, as its IPX7 waterproof rating makes it virtually impossible to be sunk by moisture. Garmin designed this navigator to take on tough rides with aplomb, so don't be afraid of bumps along the way. It also features a long-lasting rechargeable battery with a hard-wire option.

Dual-view high-definition display

The 5.5" touch display is more than just a pretty face. It features Garmin's brightest backlight yet, so you're sure to see the maps in the harshest of sunlight. It's also truly high definition, with a resolution of 720 pixels, for a crisp and clear view of maps, information, and more. The screen works in landscape or portrait mode, so you can change up your view depending on your mood. Multi-touch control lets you zoom the maps in or out with your fingers for a better view.

On-road maps

The zumo XT features detailed street maps of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and more, plus millions of points of interest. You can also upload your own favorite stops and create custom routes for favorite adventures. Easy Route Shaping lets you add a point on the map to adjust your route, so you can ride through preferred areas or follow specific roads.

Off-road maps included with satellite images available

Topographic off-road maps cover North and Central America, so the zumo XT can be a reliable companion on hiking or camping trips as well. You'll be able to see public land boundaries, 4x4 roads, and much more. This navigator also offers access via the BirdsEye Direct Download app to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery around the world, so you can get detailed satellite images directly on the device by downloading over Wi-Fi®, without any annual subscription. Quickly toggle between on-road maps, topographic maps, and BirdsEye images, so you can always have the ideal map.

Explorer favorites and outdoor points of interest

Garmin includes points of interest from HISTORY, Foursquare, iOverlander, TripAdvisor, and Ultimate Public Campgrounds, so you're sure to find nearby trails or campsites, including wild and dispersed locations. It also offers spots where you can get repairs or parts for your ride. You can rely on the zumo XT to lead the way even when you can't pick up cell service out in the sticks.

Top-notch directions

You don't want to chance a last-second lane change for upcoming turns, so let Garmin's lane assist with junction view keep you on the right course. You'll also see 3D images of buildings and terrain to help you get your bearings. And the zumo will let you know what accommodations and services are right by the nearest exit up ahead. Garmin's TracBack routing takes you back to your starting point along the exact same route you traveled, so you can revisit favorite spots.

Down-home guidance

As with most Garmin navigators, you'll get text-to-speech voice prompts at turns, so you'll hear "turn right on Mulberry Street," instead of "take the next right." Garmin's Real Directions give you turn-by-turn directions using recognizable landmarks, buildings, and traffic lights, which can make upcoming maneuvers even more intuitive.

Track your routes

The zumo XT can start recording your ride as soon as you start your journey, allowing you to retrace your travels back to their starting point. The track recorder also shows you key data for time and distance covered, including elevation.

Hog-happy routing

The experts at Garmin know how the exhilaration of taking a particularly curvy section of road can really solidify your relationship with your motorcycle, so they've developed Adventurous Routing options to guide you through routes which let you really hug the terrain. Simply adjust your preferences for hills and curves, and the zumo will take care of the rest. It'll even help you avoid major highways if you prefer to take the scenic route whenever possible.

Rider alerts

The zumo XT provides alerts for sharp curves ahead, speed changes, railroad and animal crossings, school zones, and more. You'll also get a heads-up when you need to check state helmet laws, or when you're about to head the wrong way down a one-way street. The Garmin will even point out nearby red light and speed cameras in select areas. And it can even recommend a pit stop when you've been driving for too long without a break.

Comes with Wi-Fi

Built-in Wi-Fi compatibility lets you update the zumo XT's maps and software without an inconvenient wired connection to your computer. You can prepare for your next trip by uploading trails when connected to your home network, and then take advantage of your own portable Wi-Fi hotspot to get online when out in the wild.

Works with your Bluetooth headset or helmet

Bluetooth wireless technology connects with your Bluetooth enabled headset or helmet so you can hear the navigator's spoken directions over road noise. And if your helmet or headset's paired with a compatible phone, you can use the zumo XT to place and receive calls without touching your phone. You'll be able to call up destinations like hotels or restaurants from the road to make reservations without stopping.

Got tunes?

You can pair your smartphone with the zumo XT to control your digital tunes and hear them through your Bluetooth helmet or headset. You can also connect your portable music player through the zumo mount's USB port and enjoy your tunes through the navigator. Or you can add MP3s directly to the zumo and play them as you ride.

Smartphone notifications

Worried you might miss an important text or call while you're breezing along? When you pair select smartphones with the zumo via Bluetooth, you'll be able to see incoming texts, calls, and other alerts right on the navigator's screen. In some cases, the navigator will even read the alert aloud to you so you don't even have to take your eyes off the road.

Get others involved

Got a worried spouse or partner at home? The Incident Detection feature automatically sends a text to a chosen contact in your phone in case it determines you've been involved in an accident. And if you're part of an extended riding group, you can send GPX files of routes to your zumo from your phone, or share your own favorite routes with other motorcycle enthusiasts.

Compatible with Garmin inReach® communication devices

The zumo XT works with devices in Garmin's inReach satellite communicator family, so you can use the navigator to send SOS distress signals even in the most remote areas. You can also use the zumo's keyboard to compose two-way text messages to others, letting your friends and family know how you're doing. Garmin inReach devices and subscription plans are sold separately.

Great question, Rob. You can select destinations with latitude and longitude coordinates with the Garmin Zumo XT. You simply select the "Where To? > Coordinates" in the menu!

Adventure doesn't mean trespassing. Does it show property that you are on including adjacent property bounderies?

How can I mount this Garmin XT to the bolt between the handlebars on an FJR 1300?
bernie  Jun 16, 2020

Take the steering head cover nut off. Drill and tap it to the size of bolt you need. I taped a 10-32 in mine. You can bolt a plate or another kind of mount to this bolt. I'm lucky to be a machinst so I made a whole mount for my sirrus radio display but I still needed the threaded hole. I've have seen them on line already taped but kind of pricey. Be sure the bolt is not to long or you will hit the steering stem. Use red loctite or a lock nut on top.
