Overview: The Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM (SEL70200G2) is a G-Master standard/telephoto zoom lens that is designed for Sony mirrorless full frame (35mm) cameras. The lens covers the full 50-150mm focal range at a constant F2 maximum aperture. The SEL50150GM has an 11-blade circular aperture to provide a smooth defocusing effect for more artistic compositions. The lens comes with front and rear lens caps, a removable tripod mount, and a lens hood.

Compatibility: The SEL50150GM has a Sony E-mount, and is compatible with α-series mirrorless cameras. It works best with cameras with full frame (35mm) image sensors, but can be used on APS-C sensor equipped cameras with an effective focal length of 75-225mm.

Lens Construction: The lens features 19 lens elements in 17 groups. This includes two XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements, and three ED elements to minimize chromatic aberration. Sony adds a Nano AR Coating II to suppress flare and ghosting, while a fluorine coating on the front lens element repels water, dirt, and fingerprints for easier cleaning. The lens features silicone gaskets around the buttons and switches and the lens mount to protect the lens in harsh conditions.

XD Linear Motors: The SEL50150GM features four XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors for fast, precise autofocusing. The high-thrust motors work with the precision floating focus groups to produce approximately 20% faster focus speed, compared to the original version of the lens. Focus tracking continues even while zooming to ensure you won't lose focus. The motors operate in near silence to make the lens ideal for movie recording.

Focus Controls: The SEL50150GM lens is equipped with several focus controls on the barrel of the lens:

• Full-time Direct Manual Focus (DMF): With the Full-time DMF switch in the On position, the focus automatically switches to Manual Focus (MF) when the focusing ring is rotated, regardless of the AF mode setting and the focus adjustment.
• Focus Mode Switch: You can switch between AF (autofocus) and MF (manual focus) on the lens. For AF photography, both the camera and lens should be set to AF. For MF photography, either the camera or lens should be set to MF, or both. In MF mode, rotate the focusing ring to adjust the focus while looking through the viewfinder.
• Focus Range Switch: The Focus Range Limiter switch (AF range) reduces the time it takes to focus by limiting the distance the lens can focus. With the switch at Full, the lens can focus from the minimum focusing distance to infinity. In the Infinity-3m position, the lens can only focus from 9.8 feet (3 meters) to infinity.
• Focus Hold Buttons: The lens is equipped with focus hold buttons positioned around the barrel. When one of the buttons is pressed and held, the AF function is canceled and the current focus is fixed, allowing you to release the shutter. To start Autofocusing again, release the focus hold button and press the shutter button halfway.

Iris Lock Switch: The lens features a manual iris ring to adjust the amount of light entering the lens. In the Auto (A) position, the iris ring can be locked to prevent accidental movement of the ring. To manually adjust the aperture, the ring can be unlocked and turned to the desired setting between f/2 to f/22.

Filter Diameter: The lens has a 95mm diameter filter thread for attaching optional screw-on lens filters.

Lens Hood: The SEL50150GM comes with the ALC-SH183 lens hood to protect the lens, reduce lens flare, and ensure maximum image quality. The round lens hood attaches to the lens with a bayonet-type fit. The hood has a sliding window that allows you to rotate an attached polarizing filter without removing the hood. When not in use, the lens hood can be reverse-mounted on the lens.

Tripod Mount: The lens features an integrated tripod collar to mount the camera and lens to a tripod. Using the tripod collar instead of the camera's tripod receptacle creates a much more balanced and secure mount. In addition, you can loosen the ring on the tripod collar to rotate the camera between vertical to horizontal positions without detaching the camera. Gray dots (tripod collar ring indexes) located at 90-degree intervals on the collar ring help you adjust the camera vertical and horizontal positions more precisely. The tripod mounting foot has 1/4" and 3/8" screw holes to accommodate more tripod screws. When not using a tripod, the mounting foot can be detached from the collar, if desired.
