Exceptional sound for on-the-go listening

The Sony NW-ZX507 Walkman® delivers precise, detailed sound from your high-res audio files and online streaming services. Its high-quality electronic components and optimized circuit board layout give you accurate, natural sound with minimal distortion.

A powerful digital-to-analog converter (DAC) renders high-resolution files in their native resolution for pristine, better-than-CD sound. And all from a portable player you can slip into your pocket.

Android™-supported Wi-Fi

The NW-ZX507 lets you wirelessly access the internet through Wi-Fi, using its built-in Android operating system. Stream music from popular services such as Spotify®, Pandora®, TIDAL, and Apple Music® (subscriptions required). And you can also download music from select sites like HDtracks directly to your player.

Support for high-resolution audio files

The NW-ZX507 is compatible with high-res PCM-based files (up to 32-bit/384kHz) such as FLAC, Apple Lossless, and WAV. The player is also MQA-compatible, for even more high-res listening options. And it features native DSD playback (up to 11.2MHz) to help retain all the authentic detail of the original recording.

Expandable memory for high-res files

The player comes with 64GB of built-in memory. If you want more storage, a microSD card slot lets you add optional cards.

High-res Bluetooth streaming

The player's Bluetooth is enhanced by Sony's LDAC technology. This allows the wireless signal to retain more musical detail with compatible Sony speakers and headphones. We recommend pairing this player with Sony's high-performance Bluetooth headphones like the the WH-1000XM4 wireless noise-cancelers for a super-sounding portable listening rig.

Advanced design for high-performance audio

The milled aluminum casing shields the player's circuitry from electrical noise. The electronics are mounted on a milled copper block. This further reduces resistance and improves grounding for exceptionally clear sound. High-quality film capacitors ensure uniform frequency response for low distortion. Every part of this Walkman, right down to the choice of solder and resistors, adds to the quality of the sound.

Construction: The NW-ZX507 is precision-engineered and constructed with high-quality materials and components for superior sound quality. It has a rigid aluminum milled frame which shields the internal circuitry from electrical noise. The components are mounted to a copper milled block for lower resistance and improved electrical grounding. Internally, the NW-ZX507 uses newly developed FT CAP high polymer capacitors to support the power to the balanced output's amplifier, helping the unit to deliver powerful bass and wide expansive instrumentals and vocals. To minimize signal loss, the circuit board uses audio-grade, lead-free solder with a small amount of gold for optimal signal transfer.

Display: The digital audio player has a high-definition 3.6" TFT color display (1280 x 720 pixels) with touch screen controls. The unit even features a special Cassette Tape user interface to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Walkman portable.

Android Operating System: The user interface of the NW-ZX507 is supported by Android 9.0. You can set up a Google Account, or use an existing account, to use services provided by Google. When connected to a Wi-Fi network, you can purchase music content, including hi-res audio, from other online music services. The Home Screen has a "dock" for displaying shortcuts to up to 5 apps. Swiping up from the bottom of the screen displays the All Apps screen. The unit features the following pre-installed apps:

  • Music Player: The Music Player app lets you play music content stored on the player, either transferred from your computer or purchased from online music services.
  • Sound Adjustment: This app lets you adjust the sound coming from the headphone outputs. This app is particularly useful when playing music from apps other than Music Player.
  • Google Play Store: You can use this app to purchase and/or download third party apps from the Google Play Store:
  • Chrome: This app launches the Google Chrome internet browser to let you view websites.

Memory: The NW-ZX507 has a 64 GB built-in internal memory for storing your high-resolution music files. If more storage is needed, there is a slot for an optional microSD memory card. Cards up to 128 GB are compatible. Using a higher capacity memory card may work, but isn't guaranteed. Based on an average of 4 minutes per song, the built-in memory can hold the following number of songs:

  NW-ZX507 (64 GB)

MP3 (128 kbps)

13,000 songs
AAC (256 kbps)

6,600 songs

FLAC (44.1 kHz/16-bit)

1,200 songs

FLAC (96 kHz/24-bit) 360 songs
FLAC (192kHz/24-bit) 180 songs
DSD (2.8224 MHz/1-bit) 300 songs
Note: The actual usable memory is approximately 48.64 GB. A portion of the memory is used for data management functions.

Bluetooth/NFC: With built-in Bluetooth 5.0, you can stream your music files wirelessly to compatible devices up to 30 feet away. Devices, such as a Bluetooth headphones and speakers, that have the NFC (Near-Field Communication) function, can be automatically turned on, and paired with the player, by simply touching the device to the N-mark on the back of the player. The NW-ZX507 is equipped with LDAC, which uses the conventional Bluetooth connection, but transfers data at up to 999 kbps. That's three times the transfer rate of other audio profiles, which results in higher fidelity. In addition, the unit supports aptX and aptX HD.

Sound Quality Settings: You can adjust the sound quality with the following Sound Quality Settings:

  • 10-band Equalizer/EQ Presets: You can adjust the sound at 10 individual EQ bands at 31Hz, 62Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz, 8kHz, and 16kHz. The adjustment can be made from -10 to +10dB, and saved as Custom 1 or Custom 2 presets. Other EQ presets include: Bright, Excited, Mellow, Relaxed, Vocal, and Off.
  • DSEE HX: DSEE HX uses an algorithm to analyze the music, and automatically replace the "lost" information. DSEE HX (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) gives your highly-compressed music files new life so they sound almost as good as true Hi-Res Audio quality. DSEE HX can be turned on or off, as desired.
  • DC Phase Linearizer: This function makes low frequency phase characteristics more similar to a traditional analog amplifier. You can select Type A (low, standard, high) or Type B (low, standard, high).
  • Dynamic Normalizer: The Dynamic Normalizer can moderate the change in volume between tracks to minimize the difference in volume level. It can be turned on/off , as desired.
  • Vinyl Processor: The Vinyl Processor can add the character of vinyl recordings to your digital recordings with subtle reproduction of the low-frequency resonance, tone-arm resonance, and surface noise.
  • Direct Source: This setting lets you turn off the above sound adjustments and activate the Direct Source function. The current file's original sound quality is heard without any audio processing. The "Direct" toggle switch icon can be found on any of the above Sound Quality Setting pages.

Rechargeable Battery: The NW-ZX507 has a built-in Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery for exceptional stamina. After a 6.5-hour full recharging time (via USB power), the unit's estimated battery life is as follows:

Music Format Approximate Battery Life

Customer Q&A

12 questions already asked

Are there any wired headphones with playback and volume controls compatible with the Sony NW-ZX507?
david  Dec 09, 2022
1 answer
As far as I am aware David, we have few options that will control playback on the Sony NW-ZX507. High quality wired solutions I would eye would be the Sony IER-M9 in-ear monitors would be a great choice from a performance standpoint but will not offer volume or playback controls. I hate to deliver bad news, but I hope this helps!

Would I be able to download my 99 songs from my Korg D3200? And also from my older computer that runs XP?
the brave  Nov 14, 2022
1 answer
This is not tested or designed to work with Windows XP or the Korg D3200. It will likely be necessary to transfer any files to a Windows 7+ or Mac 10.7+ system in order to relocated them onto the Walkman.
zachary  Nov 14, 2022 (Staff)
Can DJ created music from laptop or flash drive be transferred without the Sony app to this unit?
jay  Jul 03, 2022
1 answer
Music Center (Sony's recommended app) is not required to transfer music files onto this unit. You can actually drag-and-drop files onto the NW-ZX507 using Windows File Explorer or Mac's Finder.

Can i use this in a car to play via usb or blue tooth, and can i download my music files from tidal or roon?
marc abramson  Jul 02, 2022
1 answer
The USB can only be used for charging and file transfer, however it is Bluetooth compatible to stream to your stereo. This is compatible with Tidal but it is not Roon ready.
allison  Jul 02, 2022 (Staff)
Can you use amazon Music Player for streaming on this device?
bill  Jun 20, 2022
1 answer
Greetings Bill, and thank you for your question. The Sony NW-ZX507 is not a streaming device. The built in WiFi is for a direct Internet download of purchased music files to be stored on the player.
hogan  Jun 21, 2022 (Staff)
Can I use Android Auto to control the Sony NW-ZX507 and playback music from it (like I could use my head unit to control my old Apple Ipod 7th generation)?
jim  Apr 30, 2022
3 answers
Most likely not. You can add the walkman as a bluetooth device and then control volume and move up and down on your playlist or album. You will see the art of the album/song displayed in your infotaiment. However, you cannot install android auto in this device. Also, it is not compatible with all bluetooth modules. All I know is it works in new Audi models, doesn't work in Subarus up to 2020, even with the latest software updates. I hope that helps.
horacio  Sep 09, 2022
I was not satisfied with the way the unit had to be used to transfer music to the memory card by using the Sony transfer music app. So, I sent it back and got the A&K Alfa. I am sorry I can't answer your question. The unit was great for streaming Amazon Music, and it sounded great too. I just don't like Sony's new app for transferring music from the computer to the unit. I have old Sony players that don't use this new app to transfer. I have always liked Sony, and feel it's one of the best sounding units for the money. I hate their new transfer app.
glenn  Apr 30, 2022
No - my Escalade will try to launch android auto and it'll say not supported

Yes, streaming is smooth over Wi-Fi but the screen is tiny
mike  Jan 12, 2022
I guess you could but it's a tiny screen
edmund  Jan 08, 2022
Yes, you can. You can use Google play.. You can play musics or videos you bought on Google etc. The only drawback is that it is a small screen.
shlomo  Jan 08, 2022
how big of a sd card can you use?
dennis  Jul 13, 2021
2 answers
1TB works well with it. Not sure if it can take more.
bradford  Jul 13, 2021
I am using a 256 GB micro sd card with it now, and it works just fine. I believe it can take a micro sd card up to 2 TB in capacity. I am definitely going to upgrade to a 512 GB card in the near future.

Does it come with the cool old school case?
gonzo  Dec 03, 2020
7 answers
No, no case is included but the player itself is very well built
mike  Dec 05, 2020
No case
edmund  Dec 05, 2020
Hi Gonzo......unfortunately it doesn't come with any case at all. Maybe you could buy one from an after market seller?
mark  Dec 04, 2020
No case included
gary p  Dec 04, 2020
No, unfortunately no case. But I like it better this way because it's very sleek and just slides in your palm.
george  Dec 04, 2020
The housing is modern. About twice as thick as current cell phones, but slimmer in width. Sturdy scratch resistant brushed aluminum body. The side controls (play, rewind, FF, and volume) are old school. Screen is bright, but icons and fonts are small. Screen has a big chin as shown in product photo. There is no screen animation mimicking a retro tape deck as implied by the photo. There is no carrying case.
paul  Dec 03, 2020
No, wish it did. But it has the cassette screensaver.
bob  Dec 03, 2020
What is the Battery life like?
boonedog  Sep 13, 2020
3 answers
It seems short because I play a lot of high resolution files. But I have never played it constantly from fully charged to depleted at one time. Higher resolution files use up battery time quicker.
gary p  Sep 14, 2020
I'm not having a problem with it. Of course, I turn WiFi and Bluetooth off since I don't use them.
bob  Sep 13, 2020
It would depend on what format your playing. DSD files would last around 4 hours or so but playing 44/16 would last longer 8 hours maybe.. I don't have hard numbers just experience with listening while out walking. I don't surf the Internet while playing it. Doing so would lessen battery life. I don't see the battery as being an issue since I connect it to the usb charger after going for my walks so it's always fully charged while in use
mike  Sep 13, 2020
Hello, i have two questions, the firs one may be a dumb one but here it goes: 1. I have Sony TA-A1ES integrated amplifier, is it possible to use a 4.4 mm to XLR cable adapter to output analog from ZX507 into TA-A1ES XLR inputs? is it ok , or something will get fried? 2. On some websites, Amazon for example, it sayt it has USB DAC function, on other sites it say it does not have this function, is this function available? Thanks in advance for your answers. Paul,
psound  May 08, 2020
2 answers
It is possible to use a balanced adapter like that (we don't carry any however). You can output audio via USB though. You should be able to playback music when connected though the USB C connection on the Sony. Some features and adjustments will not be available in this setting.
casey  Jun 01, 2020 (Staff)
Yes, you could use a 4.4mm to XLR adapter but you might be better off using line out. The 507 does have USB Dac mode. Either the other websites are wrong or some regions get a different version of the 507. If you buy it from a US seller they are selling the version that does have USB Dac mode.
vishad  May 28, 2020
What's the signal to noise ratio of this device?
chuck  Apr 01, 2020
1 answer
Sony does not provide signal to noise ratio or THD measurements for this device. The best I can say is that is is very clean and quiet with my Shure SE846 IEMs, there is no hiss or background noise of any kind that I can detect.
