3-Way Driver Design: The Sony ULT Tower 9 employs a 3-way driver design, featuring a total of four dome tweeters, two midrange drivers, and one X-Balanced woofer for full-range stereo sound. The four tweeters on the front and rear of speaker produce clear high-frequency sound all around; while the dual midrange drivers deliver vocal clarity and the X-Balanced woofer produces deep and powerful bass.

• Four Dome Tweeters: The ULT Tower 9 is equipped with a total of four dome tweeters. There are two 2.0" tweeters on the front of the speaker cabinet, as well as two 1.6" tweeters on the rear of the speaker cabinet. This four tweeter array immerses your listening space with omnidirectional high-frequency sound.
• Dual Midrange Drivers: In addition to the four dome tweeters and a uniquely designed X-Balanced bass woofer, the Sony ULT Tower 9 portable Bluetooth speaker is outfitted with two front-firing 4.8" cone midrange drivers that deliver greater vocal clarity.
• X-Balanced Woofer: The ULT Tower 9 houses a front-firing 12.6" x 12.6" X-Balanced woofer with a unique rectangular design that allows for a larger surface area compared to conventional speaker units. The maximized diaphragm area increases sound pressure for a deeper and punchier bass sound, clearer vocals, and an altogether better listening experience. It also reduces driver excursion while maintaining the same sound pressure, resulting in less distortion and greater clarity.

Sony Sound Technologies: The ULT Tower 9 incorporates a variety of Sony propriety sound technologies to create bigger and deeper bass for your movie and music soundtracks, a wide open soundstage for a live audio experience, and better sound for TV and gaming. The top-panel controls along with the Sony Sound Connect App (for Apple iOS and Android OS) to enable the following features.

• Sony ULT: The Sony ULT features emphasizes deep bass sound. You can select from ULT1, ULT2, or Off.
• 10-Band EQ: You can configure a 10-Band EQ to tailor the speaker's sound to your preference, genre, or mood.
• Soundfield Optimization: This proprietary microphone sensing technology detects noises around the speaker while playing music to automatically make adjustments to optimize sound. Sound Field Optimization is set to on by default, but can be turned off.
• TV Sound Booster: When connected to your TV, the ULT Tower 9's TV Sound Booster feature synchronizes the Bluetooth speaker's audio with the TV's audio for bigger bass and greater clarity.

Wireless Speaker Pairing: You can pair two Sony ULT Tower 9 speakers together for stereo sound (Stereo Pair), or connect a number of X-Series speakers together for bigger sound (Party Connect).

• Stereo Pair: Using the Sony Sound Connect app for Apple iOS and Android OS mobile devices, you can connect two ULT Tower 9 speakers together to create a stereo pair for a wider stereo soundstage. One speaker will be designated as the Left channel, while the other speaker is designated as the Right channel.
• Party Connect: The Sony Sound Connect App also lets you connect up to 100 compatible Sony "Party Connect" compatible speakers (including X-Series) and sync music and lights. The same audio and lighting effects are played on every linked speaker.

Bluetooth 5.3: The Sony ULT Tower 9 features Bluetooth 5.3 with support for wireless audio playback (A2DP) and control (AVRCP). You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer to the ULT Tower 9 speaker system. The portable Bluetooth speaker system has a wireless range of approximately 98.4' (30m).

• Multi-Device Connection: You can pair multiple Bluetooth devices (up to 8) with the ULT Tower 9 and keep two Bluetooth source devices connected at one time. When playback starts on one device while music playback is in progress on the other, the speaker switches the audio source from the latter to the former and starts outputting sound from the switched source device (Multi-device connection).
• Supported Codecs: In addition to supporting Bluetooth's standard SBC codec, the ULT Tower 9 also supports Apple's AAC codec and Sony's LDAC codec. By supporting AAC, the ULT Tower 9 offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iOS device. LDAC is a new audio technology from Sony that allows you to enjoy high quality wireless audio via Bluetooth. With 3x the data transmitted (compared to regular Bluetooth), LDAC provides an enhanced wireless listening experience.
• Auto-On/Off: The Sony ULT Tower 9 speaker system can be set to automatically turn on when it senses a previously connected Bluetooth source device. The speaker system will automatically turn off after there is no Bluetooth audio signal or operation for approximately 15 minutes.

USB Port: The Sony ULT Tower 9 Bluetooth speaker is outfitted with a USB-A port for playback of MP3, WMA, WAV music files from a connected USB MSC (mass storage class) device, such as a USB thumbdrive. The USB MSC device must be formatted in FAT 16 or 32 with no more than 300 folders and 2,000 total files. The USB port is rated at 5V/1.5A so it can also be used to charged your smartphone, tablet, or other electronic device.

Optical & Analog Audio Inputs: The Sony ULT Tower 9 is equipped with an optical (toslink) digital input for connection to your TV. The optical digital input supports 2ch PCM, up to 24-bit/96kHz (not compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, or other multichannel audio formats). The ULT Tower 9 is also equipped with a 3.5mm Aux input for connection and playback of an external audio player or device.

Inputs: The Sony ULT Tower 9 features two 1/4" inputs and the ability to connect two optional Sony wireless ULT Mics (sold separately).

• Mic & Mic/Guitar Inputs: The Sony ULT Tower 9 is equipped with two 1/4" input jacks; one for connecting a dynamic microphone, and one for connecting either a microphone or a guitar to the portable Bluetooth speaker. A Guitar button on the top-panel of speaker switches the input between Mic or Guitar mode. Both inputs have their own variable gain level control.
• Wireless Microphone: The ULT Tower 9 can be used with Sony's optional ULT MIC kit (sold separately), providing two microphones that can be wirelessly connected to the speaker.

Top-Panel Controls: The Sony ULT Tower 9 offers soft touch controls on the top-panel of the speaker system that will operate Power On/Off, Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, ULT function, and more. You can even change the key of a song you sing and add an echo effect to your voice when using an optional wired or wireless microphone . The speaker offers integrated microphone holders for up to two microphones.

App Compatible: The Sony ULT Tower 9 supports the Sony Sound Connect App, available for Apple iOS and Android OS mobile devices, lets you optimize the speaker system's audio settings, control music, choose lighting patterns, group speakers (Stereo Pair or Party Connect), and manage your Bluetooth connected devices. A wireless Bluetooth connection between your compatible Apple iOS or Android OS mobile device and the Sony ULT Tower 9 is required to use the app.

Lighting Effects: The Sony ULT Tower 9 offers ambient illumination lighting that produces modern and subtle lighting effects for parties and everyday use. You can select a variety of different lighting patterns from the top-panel multi-color selector buttons, or from the Sony Sound Connect App (for Apple iOS and Android OS).

Battery & AC Power: The Sony ULT Tower 9 portable Bluetooth speaker can be powered via the included 59" detachable AC power cord which will plug into the speaker and into an AC power outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner. A built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery can provide up to 25 hours of playback time. The battery can provide approximately 180 minutes of music playback after approximately 3 hours/ 10 minutes of charging while the speaker is powered Off. Built-in voice-guidance can announce the battery level when the Battery button is pressed, letting you know the percentage of charge left.

• Battery Care Mode: An optional Battery Care Mode is available which limits the maximum charge capacity of the battery to approximately 90%, helping prolong the battery life. Playback time will be shorter with Battery Care Mode engaged.
• STAMINA Mode: In STAMINA mode, the ULT Tower 9 speaker's lighting function and sound effects (including ULT mode) are automatically turned off to conserve energy power.
• Auto Standby: If there is no audio signal or operation for approximately 15 minutes, the portable Bluetooth speaker will automatically go into Standby mode. Auto Standby does not function while a microphone or guitar is connected to the 1/4" TRS input. Auto Standby will also not function when the USB port is being used to supply power or charge a device.

Integrated Carry Handles and Wheels: The Sony ULT Tower 9 is a large speaker that measures 16.13" (w) x 35.75" (h) x 17.88" (d), and weighs 65.5 lbs. Due to its size, the speaker should be placed on the floor or ground. The speaker is designed to sit vertically only (not horizontally). The Sony ULT Tower 9 has caster wheels and built-in handles so you can easily move it. The handles can also be used to lift and carry the speaker.
