Product Research

Features

Overview: The VG-C4EM Vertical Grip is designed for the Sony α9 II (ILCE-9M2) and α7R IV (ILCE-7RM4) digital SLR cameras. It comes with a battery magazine, which can hold one or two NP-FZ100 Lithium-Ion batteries. No batteries are included with the Vertical Grip. When installed, the VG-C4EM adds approximately 2" to the overall height, and 10.2 ounces to the overall weight of the camera (not including batteries).

Controls: The Vertical Grip is equipped with several controls, conveniently placed for use when the camera is in the vertical (portrait orientation) position. The controls include a shutter button, front control dial, rear control dial, Custom (C1 and C2) buttons, AF On (shooting)/Zoom In (playback) button, AE Lock (shooting)/List (playback) button, a multi-selector, and a Grip Control Lock switch.

Installation: The VG-C4EM Vertical Grip fastens to the bottom of the α9 II and α7R IV. After removing the camera's battery cover (and attaching it to the grip for safe keeping), the guide bar slides into the camera's battery compartment, and the attachment screw threads into the camera's tripod socket. The grip has its own tripod receptacle for mounting the camera to a tripod in vertical orientation. The electrical contacts on the grip and camera interface with each other to provide full functionality for the controls and battery power from the grip to the camera.

Battery Life: You can use one or two NP-FZ100 batteries in the VG-C4EM Vertical Grip. When two batteries are used, the remaining level of both battery packs is displayed graphically (segmented battery icon) in the LCD monitor, while the remaining power in the battery in use will be shown as a percentage. The battery with the least amount of remaining power will be used first. When exhausted, the unit will automatically switch to the next battery pack.

Battery Charging: You can charge the battery pack(s) while the Vertical Grip is attached, using the AC adapter and USB cable supplied with the camera. When charging two battery packs, the one with less power is charged first. Charging time for fully exhausted batteries is 4 hours 55 minutes for one battery, and 9 hours 50 minutes for two batteries. You can also charge the batteries with a computer (via USB), however, charging time will be longer.
