Solid Choice

This unit is a solid pick. At first, I just wanted a back-up camera for my old truck that goes to the lake. Then my wish list grew a bit: Since I'm not into bringing up Pandora every time I turn the key, I wanted FM performance that didn't have to be wired directly to a transmitter tower - this unit has an excellent sensitivity spec and thus far seems to live up to it - the real reason I chose this. Sound is excellent for everything. EASY to navigate. Phone pairs like the newer OEM systems and sounds great on both ends. Back up camera looks and works good. I don't know how Sony does it, but nobody executes cheapness better - this will look classy in any vehicle. The screen in the daytime does not bother me like it does some reviewers - I can see it just fine and appreciate a more toned down almost elegant look and the clock is cool. Like others, I miss a volume knob and would give up some screen to have it. The phone audio is not tied into to the master volume, so mine is just turned up to max; wish it could be slightly louder at hi-way speeds, but it is adequate for this boomer's ears. I wish Sony offered HD radio on some of their units. Also miss the bass boost available on the XAV-AX3200 - it's nice not to bring up a menu when going from music to talk. Overall, an excellent unit for the price.

Very satisfied

Swapped the factory radio in my 2006 Corvette, the Sony is great, sounds much better than the OEM head unit even with the factory speakers and it has the features I wanted at a reasonable cost. The interface module and custom cable harness are fantastic.

Great sound!

Looks and works great! Was able to retain factory steering wheel controls & add a backup camera. It helped modernize the dated stereo system in my 06 Sierra.

Great upgrade!

Much needed upgrade for my 2016 Chevy Colorado! Touchscreen is very responsive. Decent graphics with fluid transition between screen selection. Handsfree calling works great as well as talk to text. New car tone is louder than preferred but is adjustable and blinker tone is barely audible with music on. All in all great value!

Awesome Upgrade

Just installed this week and so far it works great! Responsiveness is outstanding. The screen looks crisp and clean, providing an OEM look but a huge boost in functionality compared to the stock head unit. CarPlay is by far my favorite feature, but the default clock view looks professional if you don't want to hook up your phone. The only downside is that wireless CarPlay isn't an option, but I knew that going into the purchase so I'm still satisfied with the product. This unit was a little more expensive than similar units, but I definitely recommend paying the little bit extra to get the easy to use interface, clean design, speed and responsiveness of this unit.

Sony XAV-AX3700

This was a MASSIVE upgrade to the OEM 5" radio in my wife's 2019 Civic. Everything on the unit is responsive and the interface was actually designed for real use by a user, not like the JVC in my vehicle. Nothing but positivity from me on this one.

Jeep Patriot Help

Jeep Patriot installers: the guide does not show that you need to use the 4 wire data cable to connect this radio to the Maestro. After I did that, the steering wheel controls started working.

Great product

This product just worked. To make it even easier, the harnesses provided could have been pre-connected 0rior to shipping which would have made this a fool proof install.

Great sound, easy to use.

So far so good, perfect radio simple use. It has enough power to make my factory speakers sound great without having to add an amp. The only down side was no remote, so I found the Sony compatible one online, and problem solved.

Works really, only two things that bothered me is 1)the volume for phone calls even at even max volume still sound very quiet and have tried multiple ways to make louder but doesn't change and 2) the cord that connects to the phone just kind of sticks out? Not really a spot for it which would be nice but it's nothing that ACTUALLY bothers me enough to annoy me. Otherwise highly recommend

Great upgrade to factory head unit

Was looking to replace factory radio that did not have Apple Carplay. I was OK with wired only, this does not have wireless car play or android auto. UI is pretty fast, and I prefer the matte finish on screen. Has reasonably good controls like crossover, EQ and sound distance settings. Bluetooth sounds great, better than I expected. I prefer buttons instead of onscreen menus which this has also. Major con for those that wear prescription eyeglasses that are polarized. The unit is dark when wearing them, no matter the brightness setting. It is useable but really noticeable. Other reviews mentioned this and I agree it is something to be aware of

Great Sony CarPlay Unit, Works Perfectly!

I bought this unit to replace stock radio in my 2014 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4X4. I wanted something I could have maps on the dash with when navigating plus all of the additional bells and whistles. Wow! This has it all. It integrates the climate controls, truck gauges (rpm, tire inflation, etc.) into the displays of the unit. It took my old radio with minimal features into a new time warp! The steering controls, volume, etc. all integrate nicely with the unit. Sony makes good stuff, and that's exactly what I wanted. Rear camera integrates perfectly and actually looks better now through the larger Sony display. AM-FM Tuner is a very good and superior receiver over the stock RAM unit, much better sound. XM works excellent too! Great Crutchfield experience from the first call I made to spec the unit to the install and follow up!

Great unit overall, but dim screen

I really like the interface of the software and the look of the unit in my car. It is fast, intuitive, and the unit sounds good with my speakers. I like that the buttons are placed on the bottom of the screen rather than the side. I overlooked the fact that this unit does not have wireless Apple Carplay, but that is easily solved with the addition of a wireless dongle. The biggest drawback about this unit is that the screen is dim in the daylight. Frankly, it seems kind of low quality too. It works and you can still see it, but it could be much better. I saw this in other reviews before I purchased, but the style, price point, and Sony brand were things that made me choose this unit in spite of it. If that problem were fixed it would be really nice.

Was easy to install, be sure to use Crutchfield pre-wire harness, makes it so much easier. Nice no frills screen, steering wheel control connection worked flaulessly. It has 6 preset favorite contacts for easier telephone usage. A lot pf possibilities for sound quality

Installed in my 2004 Jeep. Installation was very easy, and with new console that was part of the kit. Installation required only a small modification to the radio mount. The unit is very easy to configure and having all the extra viewing space is awesome!! Really love this new radio!!

Nice Radio, Great Factory Replacement

This was a great choice to replace the factory unit in my son's 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8. I bought all the recommended wire harnesses, modules, mounting brackets and rear view camera so I could retain as much as possible of the factory functions. Install was really easy, the brackets lined up perfectly and the single DIN meant no cutting or customizing behind the dash to install. The car does not have a subwoofer so the radio sound is much like the factory unit, but better. I'm not an audio guy, but do have a little knowledge. Tech support is always there if you need them. I did call to ask about the camera and the chase wire. In the back the black ground wire (of camera) was attached to a factory ground and the red power wire was attached to the reverse light power when car was put into reverse. The RCA plug went into back on radio and because of the wiring harness I purchased the red chase wire up front was just taped up. Power went through the harness so that made things easier. Radio looks factory and my son loves it because it displays more information than with factory radio. Just need to tuck wires away, but everything works like it should. Very happy with purchase. I would definitely buy from Crutchfield again!

Great option for upgrading old factory head unit

This unit was easy to install and has most features you would want to update an older head unit. Has a lot of extra features such as vehicle info, gauges, rear cam switch in addition to the usual car play stuff. Not a fan of wireless car play so I chose the wired connection (this unit doesn't offer wireless). Everything looks clean and tidy after the install. Fairly routine install using the install kit and maestro adapter. It can be done in a few hours including removing the dash etc on a Tundra.

Excellent Product

Excellent product. Connects to Car Play every time, stays connected until I decide otherwise. Sound quality is great. I especially like having actual buttons for the volume and home (instead of tapping the screen) keeping eyes on the road where they belong. Crutchfield service and support top notch as always.

OK Unit But Still Has Problems

This is my second Sony car audio unit purchased in the last few years. Although it does most of what I want, there are a few things worth mentioning. First is the lack of an auto-set clock, so you must manually set the time and date then twice each year thereafter, adjust it for daylight savings time. Next thing is one which bugs me a lot is the lack of a way to turn this unit off. Sure you can dim the display and mute the sound but then each time the ignition is switched on, the unit powers back up, ignoring any mute selection previously made. The last thing which actually may be a problem with the unit I was sent, is sometimes when listing to music files on a USB drive, when the car is started, the unit forgets where it was on the USB drive requiring you to go to the start of your files on the drive then hunt what you want to listen to all over again. I'm still within the return window and haven't decided what I'm going to do. With my luck, I'd be sent a unit with even worse problems. I can fix the lack of an off button by pulling the unit back out and installing a switch in the power wire to the unit. Seems to me these things are worth mentioning in the compare products section of Crutchfields site but that's just my opinion.

Great unit and fantastic support!

Installed this along with a Boyo back up camera, a CRUX SWC interface, and Metra Dash kit. I would say that for the most part the installation went smoothly. All issues were of my own making. But I reached out multiple times to tech support and they were very patient and helpful. For example, when pulling the extension cord for the camera, I used too much force and broke the connector. They agreed to send me a replacement for no charge. Nice! And I'm very happy with the result. This a great unit - especially for the price.

Everything I Needed

I installed this unit in the 2008 Suburban. Installation went very smoothly. Overall, this unit does everything I need. I like the rear camera option, which I can turn on when driving. Great when pulling a trailer. The main reason I purchased the unit was for the wired CarPlay. It connects every time with no lag or waiting.

Good for the price. UI is smooth and jitter-free. The audio output is great and enhanced. With polarised glasses, the screen might appear dimmer. However, you will have no issues if you use the light mode on your maps app. Please note: This model does not support android auto and supports only Apple play.

Solid head unit, with great performance. Easy to install with all of Cruthfield's help. I'm not an expert in car audio, this unit is priced competitively - and overall I'm really happy with it but it didn't blow me away.

Too dim; otherwise great

My only complaint with the unit is how dim the screen is. With polarized glasses on, it's almost impossible to see in certain daylight conditions (in a car without window tints). I am surprised how dim it is, in fact. At night, lower light conditions, and without glasses, it's fine. I have tried adjusting the various dimmer settings, and have gotten no relief. However, the overall performance is excellent and the screen is very responsive. Lots of good features and settings, but the screen brightness is a major failure to me. Would take this to a 5/5 if they got it brighter, as well as adding a contrast control.
