Add Sony sound to your system

Sony has a well-deserved reputation for making great audio easy to access. With their XS-162GS 6-1/2" component car speakers you'll experience bigger, deeper, and fresher sound in your car, at a price that hits the sweet spot between value and performance.

Thanks to the separate woofers and tweeters, your music's soundstage will be more realistic, with better separation between the highs and lows than regular 2-way coaxial speakers. Sony's audio engineers have built upon this inherent advantage by employing woofers and tweeters that will bring out the best in your music.

Rockin' lows

The woofer's durable composite polypropylene cone keeps its shape when playing low frequencies, while the woofer's air-filled foam rubber surround dampens distorting vibrations. You'll hear bass that's accurate and strong. The woofer's construction encourages ample air circulation, for higher power handling.

Stellar highs

Sony has cribbed this system's tweeter design from their premium speaker offerings. The silk tweeters radiate clean and accurate highs throughout your car's interior, without harshness. To ensure that you can mount the tweeters in the best location, Sony supplies angle-, surface-, and flush-mount hardware.

Features

Mounting: The woofers can easily be mounted in a variety of 6¾" applications. Given the required cutout, they will also fit into the opening for a typical 6½" speaker (approximately 5" diameter) but the screw hole pattern is larger than a standard 6½", so new holes would have to be drilled.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters include brackets to allow multiple mounting configurations; flush-mount, surface-mount, and angled surface-mount. The tweeters are permanently mounted in the surface-mount housings, which can then be installed in the flush-mount housings or stacked on the angled surface-mount wedges.

Tweeter Dimensions:

  Flush-Mount Surface-Mount Angled Surface-Mount
Mounting Height 0.32" 0.74" 1.25"
Mounting Depth 0.56" N/A N/A
Frame Diameter 1.91" 1.57" 1.86" x 1.57"
Cutout Diameter 1.74" N/A N/A

Crossover Network: The high-pass crossovers are integrated in the included 46" tweeter wires. The crossover point is 5 kHz and the in-line crossover measures approximately ⅝" x ¾" x 2" long.

Specification Note: Sony's rated power spec for the XS-162GS is 40 watts (derived using IEC 60268-5 standards). In the manual they also list the CTA 2031 compliant RMS power as 45 watts. We've adopted the 45 watt RMS rating because CTA 2031 is the more common rating system.

Customer Q&A

Q
I have a 2016 mustang gt premium 400a with the 9 speaker shaker audio, no sub. The factory front lower door woofers are 2 ohm, but these Sony XS-162GSGS series 6-1/2" component system woofers are 4 ohm. Would it be okay to install these without adding an amp, or would it sound worse than the factory without an amp?

A
Hey Evan, so when you are replacing your 2-ohm speakers with a 4-ohm like these Sony's, what happens is you are adding resistance between the speaker and the shaker amp in this case which will result in lower volume output from your new speakers. Because of this it is recommended to stick with either a 2-ohm speaker or a JBL/Infinity speaker that has a very high sensitivity and is measured at 3-ohm.
