Product Research

Features

Overview: The EPICFIVE 5-channel amplifier is part of AudioControl's EPIC Series amplifiers, offering robust power and exceptional sound quality in a compact and thermally-efficient design. The Class-D amplifier is stable down to 2-ohms on channels 1-4, and 1-ohm on the mono subwoofer output. Stereo channels 1-4 can also be bridged for multiple mono outputs.

Power: The AudioControl EPICFIVE can provide the following RMS output power (@ 14.4 V, < 1% THD):

  • 75W x 4 + 1 x 300W @ 4-ohms
  • 150W x 4 + 1 x 500W @ 2-ohms
  • 700W x 1 @ 1-ohm (subwoofer channel)
  • 400W x 2 @ 4-ohms bridged (channels 1-4)

Controls & Indicators: All of the EPICFIVE controls and indicators are located on one end of the amplifier and include:

  • Channels 1/2 & 3/4: Two sets of controls are provided for Channels 1/2 and 3/4, each with the following:
    • HPF: A rotary HPF dial lets you set the fixed high-pass filter cutoff point from 50-500 Hz.
    • Gain: A rotary gain control lets you run low-level signals ranging from 500 mV up to 6 V.
  • Sub Channel:
    • Gain: A rotary gain control lets you run low-level signals ranging from 500 mV up to 6 V.
    • LPF: A rotary low-pass filter (fixed) lets you select a frequency cutoff point between 40 Hz and 180 Hz for the subwoofer channel.
    • EPICBoost: A rotary dial lets you add 0-12 dB of bass boost centered at 45 Hz.
    • Subsonic: A rotary dial lets you filter out extremely low frequencies that can cause the amplifier to run less efficiently; frequency cutoff range is 0-50 Hz.
  • Input Mode (2Ch/4Ch/5Ch): A single 3-way switch determines how many input channels will be used. If 2Ch is selected, all five amp channels receive signals from Inputs 1/2; if 4Ch is selected, the sub channel receives signals from 1/2 and 3/4; 5Ch lets you feed all five amp channels with independent RCA inputs.
  • Power/Protect LED: Illuminates Blue when the amplifier is powered on and working nominally, and will change to Red if the amp detects a fault.
  • Max. Indicator: An LED next to the Gain dials will glow briefly during loud bursts of music when the gain has been set for optimum performance. If the Max. Indicator is frequently lit, the Gain may need to be lowered.

Connections: The EPICFIVE features set-screw wiring terminals that use the included 3mm, 2.5mm, and 2mm Allen (hex) keys for loosening/tightening. Connections include:

  • Power & Ground: Power and Ground terminals will accept up to 2-gauge wire (4-gauge recommended); Remote In terminal accepts up to 8-gauge wire (18-gauge is usually sufficient). The EPICFIVE amplifier does not include any fuses; a 150A fuse (sold separately) should be placed in-line on the power wire, no more than 18" from the battery.
  • Low-Level Inputs: Three pairs of RCA jacks (Ch 1-4, Sub 1&2) are provided for connecting the amp to the source unit via RCA connections. The low-level inputs can accept audio signals from 500 mV to 6 V.
  • Speaker Output: Five pairs of set-screw terminals, accepting wire up to 10-gauge, are provided for the four speaker output connections.

Note: The Audio Control EPICFIVE does not include speaker-level inputs. If connecting the amplifier to a factory radio or an aftermarket radio with no pre-amp outputs, a speaker-to-RCA converter will be required and is sold separately (see Accessories tab).

Protection: The EPICFIVE features AudioControl's Smart Auto Reset Protection Circuit that can automatically activate if the amplifier detects a problem, protecting it from Over-Current, Over/Under-Voltage, DC-Offset, and Over-Temperature. When the amp detects a fault, it will go into Protect mode, switching the power indicator from Blue to Red and shutting down.

Q
What frequency is the bass boost centered at?
joey  May 30, 2025
1 answer
A
Greetings Joe. Thank you for your question. Epic Boost is fixed at 45 Hz with a gain range of 0-12db.

Q
what size power and ground wires are recommended for this amp?
matthew  May 26, 2025
1 answer
A
This AudioControl EPICFIVE amplifier requires a 4-gauge power wiring kit, Matt. The Stinger SK4641 in the link below is an excellent choice! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541SK4641/Stinger-SK4641-Amp-Wiring-Kit.html

This amp only takes preamp level audio. An LOC is needed to change speaker level audio back to preamp level audio. We carry a variety of LOCs and have product advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can discuss your vehicle and goals and give you a personal recommendation on an LOC.

Q
Does the subwoofer channel RCA input have to have both ports plugged in for subwoofer signal or is just one enough to supply the subwoofer output?
timothy  Mar 25, 2025
1 answer
A
We do expect that this amp will work just fine even when only using one of the subwoofer inputs to feed audio into it.
jason  Mar 25, 2025 (Staff)
Q
Does the ACR-E Remote control just the subwoofer volume or the volume of all five channels?
tyler  Feb 08, 2025
1 answer
A
Hey Tyler, it will just affect the sub attenuation on that amp.

Q
I am going to be running 100rmsx4, should i do the reccomended 150amp or 80 amps using I=P/V?
victor  Jan 16, 2025
1 answer
A
Hey Victor, if you want to ensure you have a proper fuse in line to protect your vehicle, just put a 150amp fuse in there. If you end up putting a smaller one in place, it will probably work just fine if you are not using the sub channel as well but you may find your system popping fuses randomly if they are too small so I would just play it safe and run 150A there.
red  Jan 16, 2025 (Staff)
Q
can i add a bass knob?
victor  Jan 16, 2025
1 answer
A
Hey Victor, this amp includes an ACR-E Remote level control knob in the box.
