About the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery

Emily S.

Keep a close eye on your home, even when you're not there

Ring's Spotlight Cam is more than a battery-powered camera. When motion is detected, the LED spotlights come on and a notification is sent to your phone. You can then use the mobile app to view live footage in real time from wherever you are. Press the talk button to have a chat with your visitors, or — if they are uninvited guests — press the alarm button to activate the 110-decibel siren to scare them off.

Keep your battery charged

The Ring Spotlight Cam comes with a quick-release battery for charging up without taking the camera down. You can also purchase an extra battery so you don't lose coverage while the depleted battery is recharging. Or, pick up the Solar Panel accessory for totally uninterrupted power without the hassle of climbing a ladder to change batteries.

Optional cloud storage

The camera streams live footage to the app 24/7, but if you want to save or send video clips, you'll need a Ring Protect plan. Ring Protect is a subscription-based cloud storage service. The basic package ($3.99/month or $39.99/year)* covers a single camera and allows you to save and share your Ring videos from that camera. You get a free, 30-day trial subscription when you activate your Ring device.

Installing multiple Ring devices? The Ring Protect Plus plan ($10/month or $100/year) includes cloud storage for unlimited Ring devices at a single location.

Just ask Alexa

I also have good news for Smart home fans — Ring cameras will work with Amazon Alexa-enabled devices for voice control. If you have an Amazon Fire TV, or an Echo Show or Spot, you can ask Alexa to show you the live stream from your Spotlight Cam.

More details on the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Ring Spotlight Cam outdoor security camera can keep an eye on your property when you can't. It is equipped with a motion-activated spotlight that can light up a wide area. With built-in Wi-Fi, you can view the streaming video on the Ring app directly from your computer or smart device. It has a microphone and speaker for two-way audio capability. This Spotlight Cam is powered by a long-lasting rechargeable battery. A wired version of the Spotlight Cam is also available.

Rechargeable Battery: The Spotlight Cam Battery comes with one rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery (3.65V, 6040mAh, 22.046Wh). The battery charges via USB using the supplied Micro USB cable, plugged directly into the battery. The battery charges in approximately 5 to 10 hours, depending on whether the USB cable is plugged into a USB port or into a wall outlet. A fully charged battery will last between 6 and 12 months, or approximately 1000 notification events. The Ring app will notify you when the battery is getting low. The battery has a quick-release clip that makes it easy to remove for charging. LEDs on the front of the battery indicate the charge level. The camera has a slot for an optional second battery to give you twice the battery life. The batteries discharge one at a time, so you can leave one battery in the camera while the other one charges.

Optional Solar Panel: The Spotlight Cam Battery can be charged using an optional solar panel. The Solar Panel (USB) has an output of 4 watts at 5V DC. With a minimum of 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight, the solar panel can charge the camera battery for up to 40 events per day. The Solar Panel (USB) has an 80" cable with a USB-C plug, and a USB-C to DC barrel plug for connecting to the Spotlight Cam Battery.

Camera: The wire-free security camera has a wide-angle lens with a 140° field of view. The camera produces bright 1080p HD video in a Live View that you can watch on your phone, tablet, or computer. Adjustable motion sensors cover a 270° arc, and can detect movement up to 30 feet away (based on a 9-foot mounting height). When motion is detected, the spotlight will automatically turn on, and a notification will be sent to your smart device through the Ring app. Even with the lights off, the camera's infrared LEDs will enable the night vision.

110dB Siren: The camera features a 110-decibel siren alarm that will help scare off any intruders. The siren is remote activated from the Ring App on your smart device or computer.

Weather Resistant: The Spotlight Cam is designed to be used outdoors. It is resistant to inclement weather and temperature extremes (-5°F to 120°F).

Installation: The camera can be mounted on a wall or an eave. It has an adjustable ball-and-socket type mount, with a reversible sliding "ball" mount on the camera and a round flange "socket" for attaching to your home. There are no wires to connect. The camera must be installed where there is a strong Wi-Fi signal. A drill bit and screwdriver are included for installation. To help prevent theft, the camera has a covered security screw on the mounting bracket.

Wi-Fi: The Ring Spotlight Cam Battery operates on an 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connection on the 2.4 GHz band.

Ring App: The free Ring - Always Home app pulls together all of your Ring devices, including Video Doorbells and Security Cameras. You can have multiple users on your Ring account, each with the ability to view video from any of the video devices. The app sends you an instant alert when someone triggers the camera's motion sensor, or rings your Ring Video Doorbell. You'll be able to see, hear, and speak to anyone on your property using your smart device. In addition, the app lets you create a virtual Neighborhood Watch and receive alerts from your neighbors. In the app, you can customize the Motion Zones, times for receiving (or not receiving) alerts, and how often to be notified for motion events. The Ring App is available for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 14.0 or later, and for Android devices running version 9.0 and up. The Ring desktop app has been discontinued, however, all of your settings and Ring features will be accessible in your account on Ring.com.

Optional Protection Plans: The Ring Always Home app keeps you connected to your home in real time, with instant alerts sent directly to your smartphone or tablet. If you have Ring security cameras or Video Doorbells, you also get live view and 2-way talk. A free 30-day trial of Ring Protect Plus is included when you initially set up your Ring device. Ring Protection Plans do not require contracts or long-term commitments. You may cancel your subscription at any time. As of July 1, 2022, there are two subscription plans available:

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Q
When you plug the spotlight ccm into a 110 ac outlet does it recharge the battery ? The same as my (Hard wired Ring Door Bell). What does the USB cable connect to ?

A
I am not sure if Ring sells a 120 v to 5v charging cable, but the solar panel does trickle charge the camera. When mine gets direct sunlight it will charge it from 80% to 100% in about a day and a half. I have seen aftermarket charging cables that will provide the low voltage charge to the camera but at that point get the camera that can be hard-wired for the same price.

The usb actually connects to the battery itself. The camera has a removable battery pack that you remove to charge.
