About the Ring Video Doorbell

See who's at the door, whether you're there or not
See who's at the door, whether you're there or not
I have two dogs who get pretty excited (and a foster dog who gets scared) when people knock on my door. That means I find myself constantly peeking out the window if I'm expecting guests or food delivery so that I can head them off at the pass. With Ring Video Doorbell, I'd no longer have to worry about my dogs losing their minds if my timing is a little off — it senses motion and sends a mobile alert before visitors even have a chance to reach the door.
What's even more amazing is that you can keep an eye on things when you're not there. Use the mobile app to chat with people when they ring the bell, and they won't know you aren't at home unless you want them to. Get notified when an expected package gets delivered (or if someone tries to un-deliver it).

Hardwired or battery-powered — your choice
If your current doorbell operates at a voltage between 8 and 24 volts AC, you can connect Ring Video Doorbell to the existing wiring. Hardwiring this way keeps Ring's battery charged and allows it to trigger your existing chime when someone rings the bell.
Does your current doorbell play a synth melody? If so you'll probably need to install the included diode. Just check the manual for instructions on wiring to a "digital doorbell."
No doorbell at all? No problem. The battery can be charged with the included micro USB cable, and it only needs to be removed for charging every 6 – 12 months, depending on usage. Without an existing doorbell, you'll also need to keep your phone handy for notifications, or purchase Ring Chime or Chime Pro for alerts while you're at home.
Optional cloud storage
The camera streams live footage to the app 24/7, but if you want to save or send video clips, you'll need a Ring Protect plan. Ring Protect is a subscription-based cloud storage service. The basic package ($3/month or $30/year) covers a single camera and allows you to save and share your Ring videos from that camera. You get a free, 30-day trial subscription when you activate your Ring device.
Installing multiple Ring devices? The Ring Protect Plus plan ($10/month or $100/year) includes cloud storage for unlimited Ring devices at a single location.

More details on the Ring Video Doorbell

Product Research
Features
Overview: The Ring Video Doorbell instantly alerts you (on your smartphone, tablet, or computer) when someone approaches your front door or rings your doorbell, and lets you see and hear who it is before you answer. The Video Doorbell has a built-in camera that streams HD video via Wi-Fi, and two-way audio to let you speak with your visitor. The Ring video doorbell replaces your existing doorbell, and can be powered by the built-in rechargeable battery, or hardwired to your existing doorbell wiring (8-24 VAC). The Ring Video Doorbell is also available with a Venetian Bronze faceplate.
Camera: The Video Doorbell has a wide-angle lens with a 180° field of view. The camera produces bright 720p HD video in a Live View that you can watch on your phone, tablet, or computer. Adjustable motion sensors let you customize the size and sensitivity of the motion detection zones. When motion is detected, a notification will be sent to your smart device or computer through the Ring app, allowing you to view the live video stream. Built-in infrared LEDs enable night vision after the sun goes down.
Weather Resistant: The Video Doorbell is resistant to inclement weather and temperature extremes (-5°F to 120°F).
Installation: The Ring Video Doorbell is designed to replace an existing doorbell, and is compatible with most AC-powered door chimes operating between 8 and 24 volts. Even if you don't have an existing doorbell, you can install the Video Doorbell and power it for 6-12 months per charge with the built-in rechargeable battery. Optional Wedge and Corner installation kits, sold separately, are available to help properly aim the camera for best performance. If your existing doorbell has a diode, the included diode should be used with your Ring Video Doorbell (if hardwiring).
Wi-Fi: The Ring Video Doorbell operates on an 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connection on the 2.4 GHz band. It requires a minimum upload speed of 500 kbps, however, 1 Mbps is recommended for best streaming performance.
Ring App: The free Ring - Almost Home app pulls together all of your Ring devices, including Video Doorbells and Security Cameras. You can have multiple users on your Ring account, each with the ability to view video from any of the video devices. The app sends you an instant alert when someone triggers a motion sensor, or rings your Ring Video Doorbell. You'll be able to see, hear, and speak to anyone on your property using your smart device. In addition, the app lets you create a virtual Neighborhood Watch and receive alerts from your neighbors. In the app, you can zoom and pan for a better look, flash the lights, activate the siren, customize the Motion Zones, times for receiving (or not receiving) alerts, and how often to be notified for motion events. The Ring App is available for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 9.1 or later, and for Android devices running version 4.4 and up. The app also works with Windows 10 and Mac OS.
Ring Protect: The Ring app includes a free 30-day trial of Ring Video Recording, which lets you save, review, and share recordings from the app. Ring Protect plans are currently* $3.00 per month / $30.00 per year for basic coverage (per camera), or $10.00 per month / $100.00 per year for Protect Plus (unlimited cameras).

We really are enjoying the ring doorbell. But it's sad that we have to have one of these on our house to see people who haven't grown up and behave themselves.? The delivery on the ring doorbell was fast and made it in time for Christmas. Everyone here are very satisfied with our purchase.
