My A/V system has grown over the years to include some gear that I keep hidden away in a closet. But it's all still simple to control, thanks to my infrared extender kit. If you're looking to install components out of sight, check out the Vanguard Dynamics IR HUB-6 KIT.
This handy system gives you easy remote control of your home theater receiver and other A/V gear placed inside an enclosed cabinet. It includes six infrared blasters for controlling up to eight components — including gear that your regular IR remote's signals can't reach.
How this kit works
The low-profile IR (infrared) sensor gets mounted on your TV's bezel or stand within line of sight of your remotes. The sensor receives IR commands and relays them back to a connecting block hidden away inside the cabinet.
The connecting block in turn sends the commands to each of six included infrared emitters, which you place in front of your components. The system works with your existing remote controls, or you can add a universal one to control your equipment.

Features
Infrared Receiver & Emitter Kit: The Vanguard Dynamics HUB-6 IR Kit can pick up signals from IR remote controls and then pass those signal to the HUB Connecting Block for distribution of IR signals to your devices via the included IR receiver and IR Emitters. The HUB-6 IR Kit consists of an IR Hub, IR Receiver, four Single IR Emitters, and two Dual IR Emitters for control of up to 8 IR devices.
IR Hub: The IR Hub features a single IR Receiver input and six IR Emitters outputs to connect the included IR receiver and IR Emitters. The input and outputs consist of female mini-jack (3.5mm) ports. The IR Hub comes with an AC power adapter that will need to be plugged into an AC power outlet. Find an out-of-sight location to mount the IR Hub close to your equipment and power source. Screws and two-sided tape are included to secure the IR Hub to your mounting surface.
Note: If you need to control more devices or have equipment in separate cabinets, you can purchase an HUB-6 IR Kit and daisy chain them together via the Ethernet (RJ45) Jack and a Ethernet cable (sold separately).
IR Receiver: The HUB-6 IR Kit comes with one IR Receiver which plugs into the IR Hub's IR input. The IR Receiver features an attached 7' cable terminated by a male minijack (3.5mm) connector. Mount the IR Receiver on an open flat surface that is convenient to picking up the IR remote control signal. Two-sided tape is included to secure the IR Receiver to your mounting surface.
Note: If you need further distance than the provided IR Receiver cable length, you may splice with a 3-conductor wire and connect via terminal block. Please make sure to splice in between the circuit module and the plug (see Owner's Manual for more details).
IR Emitter: The Vanguard Dynamic HUB-6 IR Kit comes with four Single IR Emitters and two Dual IR Emitters that plug into the IR Hub's IR outputs. Each IR Emitter features an attached 10' cable terminated by a male minijack (3.5mm) connector. Mount the IR emitters over the IR eyes on each equipment to be controlled. Two-sided tape is included to secure the IR Emitters to your components.
Note: The number of emitters employed, length of cables, and distance between the remote control and the IR Receiver will affect the Emitter output. Use a small Phillips screw driver to adjust the individual output power dials on the IR Hub for optimum performance
