About the Kicker 46CXA360.4T

Buck Pomerantz

Power-up your music

Do you like it loud and clean? Kicker's CXA360.4T four-channel amplifier can put out 65 watts per channel, so your music will get a big boost in volume and clarity. You could also use this amp in bridged, 2-channel mode to drive a couple of subs or high-performance speakers with 180 watts RMS each. Or, you could power a couple of front speakers with 65 watts each, plus a sub with 180 watts from the amp's bridged rear channels.

Tone controls for the best sound

Separate high- and low-pass filters on the front and rear channels help you sculpt the sound to get the most out of all your speakers. Variable bass boosts, also on both the front and rear channels, allow you to add some low-end punch when you're running subs. If you're using the rear channels to drive a subwoofer, an optional wired remote lets you control the level from the front seat.

Hooks in almost anywhere in almost any position

Kicker's Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT™) keeps this amp's input free from noise or interference, so you can tap into your vehicle's speaker wiring for an input signal without a worry. A 3-second turn-on/turn-off delay eliminates system pops and other noises. The CXA360.4T comes with hardware that lets you mount it vertically, so you can put it in a location that takes up very little floor space and looks cool too.

More details on the Kicker 46CXA360.4T

Mark G.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The CXA 360.4 4-channel amplifier is effectively two full range 2-channel amps built into one chassis, labeled Amp 1 and Amp 2. Each section of the amp is bridgeable, so it can be wired as 4-channel, 3-channel, or 2-channel.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 65 watts RMS x 4 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 75 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 2Ω: 90 watts RMS x 4 (14.4 volts, =1.0% THD+N)
    • Bridged (4Ω): 180 watts RMS x 2 (14.4 volts, =1.0% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 95 dB (at rated power output)

Controls:

  • Input Level: 2-position switch; select high (speaker-level) or low (line-level)
  • Input Gain Control: independent rotary gain controls for Amp 1 and Amp 2; continuously variable from 250mV to 10V with the input level switch set to low; 1V to 40V with the input level switch set to high
  • Crossover: independent 3-position switches for Amp 1 and Amp 2; select Off, High Pass, or Low Pass; the slope is 12 dB/octave for both
  • Frequency: separate rotary controls for Amp 1 and Amp 2; continuously variable from 50 to 200 Hz
  • Fader: 2-position switch; turn on when using two pair of dedicated inputs; leave off when only using one pair of inputs
  • KickEQ Bass Boost: separate rotary controls for Amp 1 and Amp 2; increase the bass level between 0dB and +6dB; centered at 40Hz

Mounting: The CX Series amplifiers can be mounted vertically, if desired, with the included mounting brackets. When mounted vertically, the dimensions are:

  • Height: 6?"
  • Length: 12?"
  • Width: 2?"

Auto Turn-on: The amplifier has two methods of turning on: +12V and DC Offset. The preferred method is to run an 18-gauge wire from the remote turn-on lead of the source unit to the Remote (REM) terminal on the amp. When a +12V signal is detected on the wire, the amplifier will turn on. If your source unit lacks a remote turn-on lead (a factory head unit, for example), you can choose to turn on the amplifier via the DC Offset method. When a DC offset is detected (>2.5 volts) on the speaker-level inputs, the amplifier automatically turns on.

Wire Connections: The CXA360.4 has screw-down terminals for power, ground, turn-on (REM), and speaker output, which will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors. The power and ground slots are 0.512" wide and the remote and speaker slots are 0.335" wide.

External Fuse: The amplifier does not include a built-in fuse, therefore an external fuse should be placed on the power wire, within 18" of the battery. It is recommended that an 8-gauge amplifier wiring kit and a 40-amp external fuse be used when installing the amplifier.

Note: Currently (as of 4/24/19) Kicker will extend the standard warranty by an additional year (for a total of three years) when a qualifying Kicker Installation Kit is purchased with the amplifier.

Input Signal: The CXA360.4 accepts either high (speaker-level) or low (line-level) input signals on the two pair of RCA inputs (Amp 1, Amp 2), selectable using the input level switch on the end of the amp. When using a speaker-level input signal, add the optional Kicker KiSL speaker-level to RCA adapter. The input sensitivity is 250mV-10V (low) or 1V-40V (high).

Optional Wired Remote: The optional CXARC remote bass level control can be added to remotely control the output level of the Amp 2 channels. (The low pass crossover must be engaged.) The CXARC's control knob can be mounted near the driver's seat, and the control's cable extended to the amplifier location.

Certified Power: Each amplifier is tested when it comes off of the assembly line. Tests are run for Total Harmonic Distortion, Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Protection Circuit, and Total Power Output. A Certified Power certificate with model and serial number is included with each amp with the measured power output figure, and a pass/fail grade for the other tests.

Q
I have a land cruiser 2015 base model which have an android headunit and upgraded speakers(jbl but sounds start cracking on high volume should I install amp or there is other reasons to cracking voice?
waqar  Nov 27, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Waqar. Thank you for your question. An amplifier would certainly make speakers sound better, but if they are crackling, there could also be a speaker problem too, or signal from the stereo to the factory amp. If its just at higher volume levels, it sounds like a distortion problem which could be coming from the radio, getting into the amp, then out to the speakers. Might want to contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695 for a recommendation.
hogan  Nov 27, 2023 (Staff)
Q
will 1 set of rca's going into the amp with "fadar" off, give me the ability to tune "each amp" independently?? (will 1 set of rca inputs opposed to the option 2 sets of inputs make the amp function differently??)
bobby  Nov 19, 2023
1 answer
A
Great question, Bobby. The FADER button is the input selection switch. When turned Off, only one left and one right input is needed and you can still use the crossover features on each amp (1&2) to tune your sound independently, no worries there!

Q
I have this amp and it's running 4- 6.5 JBL door speakers. Can I add a sub to this amp and if so sub recommendations? Thanks
scott  Sep 14, 2023
1 answer
A
You will need either a new amplifier to power a sub or a self-powered subwoofer. The 46CXA360.4T does not have the additional channels needed to add a subwoofer in your scenario.

Q
I have a 2019 Jeep JLU with a Stinger Heigh 10 (UN1810) Radio installed. I just Installed 2ea Kicker KSC6704, 2ea Kicker KSC350 & 2ea Kicker KSC40. Will this amp be sufficient enough to power these speakers? Should I stay with 4 channels or go to to 6 channels?
chris  Sep 08, 2023
1 answer
A
The Kicker 46CXA360.4T would be a fantastic choice to power your 6-speaker setup, Chris. I see no reason to move to 6-channels as you would most-likely be overpowering the Kicker 4" and 3.5" speakers. The real question lies in if you are adding a subwoofer, or on the fence about it. If you are even remotely considering wanting more deep bass, it is a really good idea to install a 5-channel amplifier with a mono subwoofer channel built-in. It is the same amount of install work, but you would have the power onboard ready to connect your choice of subwoofer if you wanted to! I would consider the Kicker 46CXA600.5T 5-channel in the link below! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646CX66T/Kicker-46CXA660-5T.html

2021 Jeep Wrangler JL. 7 inch factory head unit. I have installed Kicker KSC6704 in the roll bar and Kicker KSC3504 in the dash. Knee panels still have stock speakers. Would this be a good compatible amp? Can the knee panel speakers handle the amp power and watts? May add a sub later if needed.

Q
Will this amp work with 3ohm speakers?
the berkowitz  Jun 14, 2023
1 answer
A
This amplifier could be used with 3-ohm speakers. An RMS rating is not provided for this impedance, but it is likely around 77.5 watts RMS per channel.
zachary  Jun 14, 2023 (Staff)
Q
I have a Kia Soul with JL tweeters in the dash that are rated at 60 watts RMS, is this amp too powerful for those? Also how would I even go about connecting those? I'm in a foreign land when it comes to car stereos.

Q
Does the bass boost have a slope, or is it just boosting 40hz and nothing else, or what?
mark  Apr 24, 2023
1 answer
A
There is no slope adjustment on the bass boost on the Kicker 46CXA360.4T, Mark. This is specified for exactly 40 Hz per Kicker, and it is simply putting a 0-6 db spike in that eq. I would simply set that to whatever you prefer, but you must also readjust your gain accordingly when using bass boost.

what size spade connectors for power and ground?
gerald  Apr 07, 2023

Greetings Gerald, and thank you for your question. For power and ground the spade connectors would need to be 0.512 inches.

Q
Should I run new speaker wires to each speaker?
rhyian  Mar 11, 2023
1 answer
A
You can have a few choices here, Rhyian. If you have a newer vehicle with good wiring in place, you can use the existing speaker wiring and our Crutchfeld 9-wire in the first link below to splice the amplifier outputs back into your original chassis wiring. We found this combination to only have 1% loss up to the 95-100-watt mark with OEM 18-gauge wiring, proven by our Technical Support's testing. If that move is easier for you, there is no problem with the power of the Kicker 46CXA360.4T amp. If you have any reason to question the wiring in your vehicle or are potentially having issues with the wiring already you will want to run fresh with our Crutchfield 16-gauge speaker wire in the second link below! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CSW9W20/Crutchfield-CSW9W-20.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CSW16/Crutchfield-Speaker-Wire-16-gauge.html

Q
I have a Sony MEX-N5000BT receiver with 6 RCA output jacks. I also have (6) Kicker KS Series speakers that I'm about to install. (2) 6"x9" 3-way's for the front doors, (2) 6-1/2" 2-way's for the rear doors and (2) 3-1/2" 2-way's for the front dash. I'm not planning on installing any subwoofers at this time, maybe later. The questions that I have is: Would this amp be a good choice? Would I be able to power all (6) speakers? If not, could you recommend a better choice? Thank You
scott  Nov 21, 2022
1 answer
A
You can run all six speakers off of the sweet Kicker 46CXA360.4T 4-channel amp if you'd like, Scott. It is 2-ohm stable, so each channel can potentially drive 2 4-ohm speakers. In your setup running the front doors and dash speakers on channels 1-2, it's a good idea to use the bass blockers in the link below to protect the smaller dash speakers. With the same connection logic, the Focal Auditor in the second link below could be used for a slight increase in sound quality and power, it's also got a thru RCA so potentially adding a sub later on could be easier. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007BB150/Crutchfield-Bass-Blockers-150-Hz-cut-off.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_091AP4340/Focal-AP-4340.html

Q
I have a aftermarket head unit and aftermarket speakers all rated at 60 watts rms. I'm still somewhat new to this. My head unit has 1 set of rca outs but this amp has two sets of rca inputs. Can I use all four channels of this amp from one set of rca outs?
morgan  Oct 03, 2022
1 answer
A
Absolutely, Morgan. If you have an aftermarket head unit that only has 2 channels of full range output, you can hit that "FADER" push button. The "FADER" button is the input selection switch. When it is Off only one left and one right input is needed. This amp sounds like a perfect match for your speakers!

Q
If I already have a 8 gauge wiring kit and it has an 80 amp fuse in it already amp i good with that?
seth  Sep 16, 2022

The 8 gauge wiring kit will be perfect for this amplifier. However, we only need a 40A fuse in line for this amplifier.

The 360x4 is typically used for a 4 speaker setup mostly for highs and mid bass.. the 1200x1 is a mono Amp and the more powerful 1800x1 Kicker CXA 3600 watts peak power.. the CXA 2400x1 will put out 1200 watts rms and the 3600x1 will put down 1800 watts rms!! I don't know the rms of your specific speakers but either of these amps should work better than the 4 channel amp.. thanks for your question Linton..

The CXA Kicker 360x4 is a great amp for 4 speakers. Just be sure the speakers are rated at 60/80 watts rms power this amp puts out 65x4 rms. The Kicker KX 400x4 would be a great choice also. Hope this helps you and thanks for the question.

I have that amp & a kicker kxa 800.1 for the subwoofer. Mine doesn't turn off at all. You should contact Crutchfield for technical support.
jimmy  Dec 16, 2020
A
That's a tough question without more information. How are they wired, and does it come back on when you first turn on the car then go away once the bass hits. Or does the 360 never work with the 1200 connected. Is it only when there is a strong bass hit, or maybe kinky at high volume

Why does my kicker amp CXA360.4 not turn on when I start my vehicle?
fernando  Dec 16, 2020

Verify good power and ground. Make sure the blue turn on wire is connected to an ignition/accessory power source. What kind of vehicle do you have? Use a test light or volt meter.
erich  Dec 16, 2020
A
Do you have constant battery power attached and ground attached correctly then most importantly you must have the remote input hooked up too a ignition related power supply that only comes on when the igntion is activated on your vehicle or in more precise terms when tje radio in your vehicle is on be careful operating this amp for longer then an hour without vehicle running will drain any good battery in your vehicle
randy  Dec 16, 2020
A
It powers on when the radio turns on. Not when the vehicle is turned on

I'm replacing the factory Bose speakers in my 2018 Chevy Silverado. I have Kicker 46CSC6934 6"x9" 3 way speakers for the front doors and Kicker CompRT 43CWRT672 6"3/4 subwoofers for the back doors. Do I need an amp to run these speakers on the factory receiver?
anthony  Dec 06, 2020
1 answer
A
Yes big time. However they are gonna tell you that they can't help you since you are prewired for the Bose system. My canyon did not have the Bose system, however it did have the large silver amp behind the radio. So what happened was I ended up voiding my warranty bc crutchfield did not have the correct schematic for my vehicle apparently, even tho I sent numerous pictures to numerous different techs. I never did get the back speakers to work properly and since I wired an amp into an amp... yea just made for non balanced sound at various times, etc. I would personally research the heck out of this and look for a company who makes a prewired adapter that you can just plug into the back of your receiver and not go thru the misery I did. Ended up trading the truck and had to leave the amp and speakers since I had no warranty left on my 4 month old truck.

Do you need an aftermarket stereo or will a stock one be fine?
adam  Dec 01, 2020

A
Stock is fine as long as you don't need to modify connections
eddie  Dec 13, 2020
A
Stock will be fine but you will need a line output converter. Dont cheap out on the line output converter it will really hurt sound quality. I would highly recommend an Audio Control LC2I
mathieu  Dec 06, 2020
A
A stock head unit is fine. You will however need a line out converter to use inbetween to convert the hi input to low input signals. A 2 ch loc works perfectly fine
jim  Dec 06, 2020
A
You can use a stock radio but you will need adapters that have rca plugs on the ends. There's a switch on the amp to allow for the higher input signal. It's a great amp for the money.?
thomas  Dec 04, 2020
A
These amps have high level sensing technology built in. You can use your OEM headunit's speaker circuits to provide the input signal to the amp. The amp can also sense when that signal is present, and will turn on/off automatically. But, for best results I highly recommend a suitable aftermarket headunit!!

Q
Is it possible to use this amp to power 1 sub (bridged) and 2 6x9s?
demitree  Aug 07, 2020
3 answers
A
Possible yes, but usually mono amps are the way to go if you want to get the most out of your sub
jim  May 31, 2021
A
You could use this amp in bridged, 2-channel mode to drive a couple of subs or high-performance speakers with 180 watts RMS each. Or, you could power a couple of front speakers with 65 watts each, plus a sub with 180 watts from the amp's bridged rear channels. To get the most out of your speakers, I would have a separate amplifier for your subwoofer, that way you can tune your mids (6x9's) and lows (subs) separately for the best outcome. I personally have this amp powering 6x9's and 6.5's with a separate amp for a subwoofer.
