About the Kicker 48CWRT82

Bob Bihlmayer

Big sound from a small sub

If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and ATVs in mind. The low-profile 48CWRT82 8” subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub stands less than 3" tall, so your installation options are wide open. Kicker has redesigned the forced-air cooling system, so this sub will run cooler when you drive it hard (and you know you will).

Made to bring the boom

The 48CWRT82 comes equipped with a rigid injection-molded polypropylene cone that won't flex and cause distortion while you're cranking the bass. Its rubber surround will last through years of heavy use, combining with a special-design back and top plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs.

Made to fit many systems

This sub handles up to 300 watts RMS so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 1- or 4-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub sounds great in sealed or ported enclosures.

Product Research

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4Ω load.

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's CompRT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit.

All-Weather: Although not marine certified, Kicker describes the CompRT series as weatherproof.

Cooling: Kicker engineers developed a Forced Air Cooling system, using the motor structure to pull air across the voice coils, helping the sub run up to 20% cooler than the previous model.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 0.2 ft³ to 1.0 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from a given amount of power. Kicker recommends the following ported enclosures:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with an 8" x 1½" x 20¾" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.2 ft³ with an 8" x 2" x 19⅛" slot port

Q
does it come with a built in crossover?.. so I wont need further purchase?
aaron  May 27, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Aaron, and thank you for your question. It has no filter, or crossover. The operating frequency range is 30 hz to 500 hz.
thomas  May 27, 2023 (Staff)
Q
can this work with stock radio without being amplified 2018 jeep cherokee ?
matty  Mar 07, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Matty, and thank you for your question. Subwoofers need amplifiers. The amplifier in your radio is running all your speakers now, and does not have anything left to run another speaker. The Kicker 48CWRT82 is going to need a 200-300 watt amplifier.

Q
Will this speaker fit my factory sub box in my 2017 Nissan Titan platinum reserve?
johnd  Feb 05, 2023
1 answer
A
Yes. Based on our measurements, this would fit the factory 8" subwoofer location.
zachary  Feb 05, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Because of the top mount depth (2 3/4) I know these fit on my 08 mazda mx-5 with bose system. My question would be. Since these would go inside the door, the fact that these are not 'free air' does not matter. Right? The door/door pannel would act as the box
stuko  Oct 07, 2022
1 answer
A
This speaker may fit with modification. However, it is unlikely that the door panel will provide a sufficient enclosure to truly achieve the best sound. Please reach out to our advisors via chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695 to discuss possible solutions for your project.

Q
Will this fit in my 2016 Ram 1500 factory box?
russell  Jun 12, 2022
1 answer
A
This speaker may be a bit too large for a 2016 Ram 1500 factory sub enclosure. Perhaps it is possible with modifications, but we do not have research for custom installations of that nature. We do have other subwoofer options that would more easily fit. Our advisors are happy to help at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
Will this fit as a stock replacement sub for a Sonata 2018 Limited with a infinity audio system?
kevin  May 24, 2022
1 answer
A
That is a really good question Kevin! We show that this Kicker subwoofer is not an easy fit, However the Pioneer TS-A2000LD2 Shallow-mount 8" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils is a great choice if you need a replacement subwoofer for your Sonata, it's a much easier fit! Check it out with this link below. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSA20LD/Pioneer-TS-A2000LD2.html

Q
Can this subwoofer handle more power if wired to 1 ohm or does it stay at a 300 rms maximum power?
francisco  Oct 11, 2021
2 answers
A
No. The coils are still rated for the same amount of power (150rms ea) regardless of series or parallel wiring. Dual coils are more for wiring simplicity between amp and driver. For example, let's say you have a dual 2 ohm sub, your wiring options are 4 ohm, 1ohm while using both coils but the amp you have is 2 ohm stable to @150watts or 75 watts @4 ohms. Your best bet for system efficiency would be to use a single coil on the sub because of the ratings
jose  Oct 11, 2021
A
In accordance with the specs 300 watts continuously is the maximum power it could handle. Over that amount it will heat up and fail.
jose a  Oct 11, 2021
Q
Would I need to buy another amplifier or it would work with the original one?
betov  Aug 10, 2021

A
I used all the oe stuff even wiring. Probably could be better but it got the job done and sounds decent enough!
shane  Aug 10, 2021
A
You will want an amplifier to drive this subwoofer to get the best performance from it. It's a dual voice coil speaker and a two channel amp would work great although you could drive it with a mono amp.
zach  Aug 10, 2021
A
I would buy an amp. The factory oem amp could not provide enough power so the subwoofer could really perform. I bought a Kicker amp with the bass control for that purpose.
jose a  Aug 10, 2021
A
Highly suggest getting a stronger aftermarket amp.

Q
Will this fit as a stock replacement sub for the cargo woofer in 93 Landcruiser?
ryan  Jul 21, 2021
2 answers
A
As long as you're OM has in an 8" woofer it should be OK. I replaced mine in the infinity OEM enclosure For my Town & Country 2010. Had to drill different holes but using proper threaded screws and sealant makes it no problem. This little 8" job bumps like a 10!
steven  Jul 21, 2021
A
It is the same size as the factory sub. However the magnet is too deep and wide. I had to make an extension ring for the magnet to clear space.

Will this fit as a replacement sub for a 2016 juke with the rockford Fosgate system?
chad  Jun 29, 2021

In my application the subwoofer sounds greats. However, you need to chk the specs of the box in your system to know if that particular subwoofer could work there.
jose a  Jul 01, 2021
A
If you mean jeep yes it should fit. You will have to drill new wholes in the enclosure but it fits.

4 gauge

Q
Will this fit in my 2013 F150 super crew with the factory Sony sub under the rear passenger seat?
eric  Apr 02, 2021
1 answer
A
This can fit within the available space left once the factory subwoofer is removed. It needs new mounting screw holes drilled because its pattern does not match the stock.

Q
Will this fit in as a replacement in a 2004 4runner with the JBL system?
anthony  Mar 28, 2021
