Product Research

Features

Woofers: The Kicker 48DCWR122 enclosure uses two 12" CompR series subwoofers. Each Kicker subwoofer features a polypropylene cone with a Santoprene surround. The surround and cone are attached using Kicker's signature red double stitching, providing an outstanding bond.

Enclosure: The ported enclosure is made of heavy-duty MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with extensive internal bracing, providing exceptional acoustic efficiency and deep powerful bass. The enclosure is covered in sleek black carpeting for added protection and a refined look.

Forced Air Cooling: Kicker uses their SoloKon technology to join the cone to the vented back brace, creating a single integrated unit. This forces air through the motor assembly allowing it to run 25% cooler and helping eliminate distortion.

Speaker Terminals: A single pair of spring posts are mounted on the back of the enclosure (toward the right side) and will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Power: The dual CompR subwoofers can handle up to 1000W RMS (2000W peak), and are wired for a 2Ω load at the single pair of spring posts.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker CompR speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The suspension system is very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. Once broken-in, the subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Q
Will the JL Audio JD1000/1 be a good amp for this setup?
adam  Jun 08, 2025
1 answer
A
Greetings Adam. Thank you for your question. Absolutely. The power is dead on, 1000 watts at 2 ohms, and the Kicker enclosure is set at that same 2 ohms.

Q
Where are they made?
action  Dec 18, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Mr. Jackson. The country of origin is China.

Q
What frequency is the box tuned to?
todd  Sep 26, 2024
1 answer
A
This information is not provided by Kicker in the specifications for the 48DCWR122 subwoofer enclosure, Todd. For this specific of detail, you'll need to reach out to Kicker directly and they may be able to provide the exact frequency the slot-ported box is tuned to. For the best mix of performance and sound quality most ported boxes are tuned between 30 to 35Hz.

Q
If one of the subs blow is there a way to open the box to replace the blown sub?
gary  Aug 29, 2024
1 answer
A
Yes, there are screw covers that can be removed from around the subwoofers which will expose the mounting screws
jason  Aug 30, 2024 (Staff)
Q
What is the difference between Kicker VR subs in this box and Kicker Comp R? I see no difference between them in your product descriptions other than slight box size.
michael  Aug 18, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Michael, the only main difference between the two is how much power they are rated to handle. The dual VR box for example is rated for 800w RMS while the dual CompR's are going to be rated for up to 1000w RMS. So depending on the amp you are going to be using, one may be better than the other for you.

Q
How much does this enclosure weigh?
colin  Apr 29, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Colin so Kicker does not provide the weight of the enclosure itself but we do have the shipping weight on the product at 82lbs. If we account for about 5lbs of packing material and cardboard, that should put us in the ballpark of 75-77lbs total for the enclosure itself.

Q
What is the cu ft. of this enclosure?
ryan  Apr 27, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Ryan. We are not going to have exact measurements on the internal air space. But taken the width, depth and height minus the material which I will assume its 3/4ths MDF. that calculates to roughly 3.7 cubic feet of internal air space.

Q
Can i wire both subs together in series and make it 8 ohm total?
jay  Feb 28, 2024
1 answer
A
You cannot, Jay. The Kicker 48DCWR122 comes pre-wired internally and we do not recommend any modification to the prefabricated subwoofer boxes. If your plan needs 8-ohms total impedance, use a pair of the same Kicker CompR 12" speaker in dual 2-ohm coils below. Paired with the SPL Boxes SB212SV in the second link (with dual speaker wiring terminals, one for each subwoofer) would allow you to wire to 8-ohms much easier! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20648CR122/Kicker-CompR-48CWR122.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_419SB212SV/SPL-Boxes-SB212SV.html

Q
I already have two 12" Comp R subs. How much for just the ported, box enclosure?
artie  Jun 17, 2023
1 answer
A
This Kicker setup is only available as a combo Arthur, we do not sell only the Kicker empty subwoofer box. We do carry the SPL Boxes SB212SV empty ported box in the link below, and this will sound great with a pair of Kicker 12" subwoofers installed! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_419SB212SV/SPL-Boxes-SB212SV.html

Q
Tuning frequency?
patrick  Nov 05, 2022
1 answer
A
That specification is sadly not listed by Kicker with these enclosures, Patrick. With that slot port you are sure to have this box play low and provide deep bass. These specs might be able to be sourced directly from Kicker, but you may have better results experimenting with setup by ear with your low pass crossover. I do apologize for the limited info, but I hope this helps!

Q
These are the dual 2ohm VOice coil subs correct? I know the 122 nomenclature says so.. want to confirm I can rewire the box to 1ohm instead of the supplied 2ohm so I can power two of these properly with a CXA800 amp at 1ohm and 900watts?
rick1  Aug 14, 2022
1 answer
A
This enclsoure is using two of the Kicker CompR 48CWR122 subs. You are correct that these are Dual 2 ohm voice coils, however two of these cannot be wired to 1 ohm. Two of these subs can be wired in parallel to .5 ohms, which that amp does not support, or they can be wired in series to 2 ohms which is how these are wired internally. If need help finding an amp to match these subs, give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and we'll be happy to help!

Q
How many cubic feet for each sub?
gavin  May 15, 2022

Kicker doesn't list the exact internal volume, but this enclosure has been designed specifically to maximize the performance of the 12" CompR subs that are installed.
