Disappointed
Steve from Elgin, IL on 7/1/2025
We remodeled our basement so I had to move my old stereo @ 20' away from the Chicago-facing window, where I had previously hung the antennae. The reception was decent for both. After the reno, I ran those wires and AM loop up along the joists, but both signals were faint and fuzzy, so I bought this Terk Tower, hoping it would improve both. I was able to tape it to the I-beam above the stereo, but the sound was no better, and only able to p-u a few stations. No difference when I moved it around, so I took it down. I have another stereo in our den, and the reception for both AM & FM is OK. I still might try this there to see if it improves both. If not, I'll return it. Having dealt with Crutchfield before, I know that their Customer Service is top notch.
Pros: Easy to hook up.
Cons: Didn't improve reception.

Weakest Antenna Ever
Garrick from Los Angeles, CA on 3/11/2025

The first order I received from Crutchfield had a defective gain amplifier. Contacted Crutchfield and they sent me out a new antenna. Reception is better than the other antenna but for some local stations I am still receiving a weak signal. I guess I will have to live with some weak reception of some stations and just maybe when they increase the transmission power I will not have no more weak stations in the city where I am living now.

Made a big difference in reception.
Daryl from Prairie Grove, AR on 10/29/2023
To verify the effectiveness of this antenna, I checked all the channels that were marginal. Fair reception but no stereo signal as we live a bit off the beaten path. Hooked the Terk up (minus plugging it in) and tuned one of those channels on the Sansui 5050...1977 vintage. Plugged the Terk in and immediately had a strong FM, stereo signal. Checked all the other channels and all but one had a fair to strong FM signal. AM channels are fair. The one I do listen to came in stronger and with less noise. Now the better speakers go in as well!
Pros: Easy installation. Small footprint on the shelf. Looks cool! Receives a few channels I could not get at all.
Cons: Tall for some shelves.

WOW, just WOW!
Brian from Saint Louis, MO on 6/6/2023
After ALL the negative reviews I was a little skeptical as to how this would work. OMG, it's just what the Good Doctor subscribed for my Whole House Audio Set Up. We have a Russound CAV 6.6 Amp with a Dual AM/FM Tuner. For 17 years I've messed around with the crummy wire antenna it came with and never really got great reception and couldn't even find our favorite station here in Saint Louis, KDHX. The AM stations came in only okay too. NOT anymore, EVERYTHING comes in perfectly. Such a difference I decided to make this Dual Tuner 2 of our Sources when we recently updated the CAV 6.6 adding a new Integra CDC-3.4 6 Disc Changer, a Blu-Tooth Receiver to the DVR & Dual Tuner. The reception this Antenna provided changed my mind and the Dual Tuner is now 2 Sources, 1 for AM, and the 2nd for FM. What a TREMENDOUS Upgrade. Thanks to the terrific staff and customer service at Crutchfield! I will be BACK, very soon to as I've got on Source left open and I'm narrowing down my choice for the Streaming Media Player. I'm sure that will review will be stellar too! Thank You, we are VERY happy!

Not so good
Crutchfield customer from Jamestown, NY on 10/27/2022
Somewhat disappointing to say the least. This antenna provided almost no benefit in reception for the one station I really want to get--certainly the station is not listenable with this antenna. I don't expect miracles. On the other hand, I plugged the antenna (a straight wire with an F-Type connector) in that came with the tuner (NAD C427) and the station came in loud and clear. I then switched to a different tuner/Terk antenna and again the straight piece of wire outperformed the Terk amplified antenna. Maybe Terk can explain why this is so.
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Very limited benefit if any

Terk Tower indoor/outdoor antenna
David Rountr from Inglewood, CA on 2/15/2022
I already posted this to another e-mail review. The main reason for this purchase was because this seemed to be the only antenna your over the phone consultant could find that had a "slip on" coaxial cable connector not screw on, which is what the new Cambridge ARX85 Receiver (I purchased from you) required. Unfortunately, it wasn't that much of an improvement but will definitely keep and maybe buy a bigger outdoor antenna in the future. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to find the right item...Kudos to your great phone help! Thanks

Didn't work for us
Crutchfield customer from Cambridge, MD on 7/19/2020
The bottom line on any antenna that is smaller than the one you are using is that it will probably not work. I didn't want to either raise my current antenna higher (it is 27 ft. above the ground) or install an antenna rotator (which is not practical since the antenna is on another building beside the house). The Terk Tower will not pull in stations that are 50 miles away unless you live in a place where that signal is totally unimpeded - that is no obstructions from trees or buildings, etc. (for instance the Great Plains). I did move it around and could intermittently pick up the station we need, but that depended on atmospheric conditions and was not reliable.
Pros: simple device
Cons: Over stated performance

I am a collector of Vintage receivers. The biggest problem I always had was with the receivers made in the '70s. they did not have anything but actually wire inputs, and you were to put like speaker wire in and make your "T" on the wall. I could not even use the "old fashion" antenna T's. Terk makes it very easy to either use the modern day coax or there is an adaptor with two wire that fits perfect. Then you have what I call a "setting" wheel int he middle of the tower where I can dial my strength of the signal. the price is wonderful, the tower pick up clean clear signals! Try one, it's easy!

Berk Tower AM/FM indoor antenna
Jon from Silver Spring, MD on 5/9/2017
Works much better than simple wire di-pole I had been using. Antenna must be mounted 5 or 6 feet AWAY from the receiver for best results. This also helps more stations to come in as stereo. Gain control does not seem to affect reception, at least in my location.

It is difficult to review an antenna because there are so many variables - distance from stations, station power, position in house, material in walls, etc., etc.. I had to move the Terk around a few times to get any decent reception, and have managed to pull in many stations now (of course, I wanted them all!). So given, that, I think it does a decent job, particularly for the cost. YMMV!

Connectivity is very easy. Nice clean look when installed. I have three of these and generally speaking, reception is better with the simple wire dipole antenna that comes with most receivers. I was willing to sacrifice a few stations to clean up the typical wiring mess.

Worked for me
Doug from Cincinnati, OH on 2/21/2017
I was a little hesitant to purchase this product due to a number of negative reviews that stated this antenna did little or nothing positive, but I can tell you that wasn't true in my case. I like to listen to tunes when I'm working in the garage, but the radio reception is terrible out there. I connected the Terk antenna, set the gain to zero, and tried to tune FM radio stations. Couldn't get a single FM station. Then I turned the gain up, and all of a sudden I could receive all kinds of FM stations. One of the things I particularly like about this antenna is it's small footprint, and I like the styling as well. But the thing I like the best about it is that it's working well in my particular setup. YMMV The only thing I don't like about this antenna is the wiring - kind of tangly coming out the back of the antenna. But it's a nit, and nothing a little electrical tape wrap won't fix.
Pros: Small footprint Aesthetics Amplification really works on weak signals

Dave from Pensacola, FL on 7/19/2016
The antenna is much better than the original AM/FM antennas but I cannot accurately rate the device. It sits too close to a wireless box and some other equipment so there is always some noise associated with the FM stations I tune into. Again, because of proximity issues, AM is extremely limited and noise. I plan to try isolating the device in order to effectively analyze the device.

Larry from Seattle, WA on 10/26/2014
I live at the top of a tall hill so there should be little obstacles to most reception. The antenna does allow me to pick up a number of stations, also, not as well as had hoped. Using the gain control helps some. However, for the price, it works OK. Later I will look to see if there is a better antenna, but this did get me fair reception. I have this located vertically on a windowsill next to the receiver.
Pros: Low cost, good looking, works reasonably well with some gain tweeking.
Cons: Not quite as powerful as I was hoping for, given my high location.

Terk Tower - About as good as a long wire antenna
Lee from Athens GA on 12/8/2012
I bought the indoor antenna in hopes that I could get better AM and FM on my stereo tuner. For FM The antenna seems to perform about as well as a straight wire antenna made from lamp cord. I don't yet see where the antenna is superior. For AM reception the Terk seems to be about equal to the clip-on rectangular AM antenna that came with the stereo receiver. I have tried the Terk with two different receivers: An Onkyo 8555. and a Yamaha RX 300U. . For FM reception before the Terk, I used a long piece of wire attached to the wall on both receivers. I tried the Terk to see if it was superior in "pulling power" to the straight wire. The Terk may help FM some, but there is no dramatic gain. Sorry to sound negative, but the Terk provided limited, if an improvement. Were I was where I could not string wire and attach it, the Terk would be better by far than no antenna at all.

Looks can be deceiving
Johnny from Riverside, Illinois on 9/23/2012
Good looking unit. Stands tall and has a pale green glowing dial. Other than that, my old flat wire FM behind the curtains did a better job in picking up stations. I live 6 miles from downtown Chicago and constantly have to move or adjust the antenna everytime I change a station. So much for omni-directional. Doesn't matter whether I have the gain all the up or down. Same deal. The Am side isn't much better. The stations are scratchy and have background static. I've tried moving it, lights on / lights off, TV on / off. Nothing helps. And the connecting wire is only about 3' long. It should be 6' and/or trimmable. My receiver is on the lower coffee table shelf and the antenna on top. Barely enough play to move the antenn from side to side. .
Pros: I haven;t found one yet

Effective Performance, Good Value
Rick M. from Long Beach, Ca on 6/20/2012
Living in a metropolitan area with several FM and AM stations close by, I did not require extraordinary performance. The only measure that I have to evaluate performance is that every station that I wanted to receive is now available to my Denon AV Receiver at sufficiently strong levels to permit locked-tuning without distortion. I simply set the variable amplification level to bring in the weakest station and checked that the strongest station was not distorted. I believe the device combines unamplified-AM and amplified-FM features which simplifies the rat's nest behind the unit in one regard but the amplification requires a small AC/DC converter to power the unit, thus adding wiring. The power and signal wires are probably long enough for most applications. It was convenient to plug the power converter into the switched outlet at the back of the receiver, otherwise it would be a big problem to switch the unit off to conserve power when not operating the unit. The device occupies a small footprint but is quite tall; a fact which should be considered by the prospective buyer before purchase.
Pros: Inexpensive performance meets all expectations.
Cons: Tall size may be an issue for buyers who care.

Slightly Improved Reception
G-Man from Yorba Linda, CA on 5/31/2005
After moving into my new house I was disappointed to find that my Yamaha RXV-1000 factory antennas were not up to the task of pulling in my favorite stations. Hoping for a low cost solution I bought the Terk Tower. Reception of both AM and FM is definitely better (cleaner) than with the factory antenna, but still poor since some stations are still absent. I get better reception in my Jeep parked in the garage. It looks like I am going to need an external or attic antenna. The variable gain on the FM channels SOUNDS like a good idea, but I didn't realize that the gain would ever be smaller than a factor of 1. It seems to me that if I turn the gain all the way down I should get a non-amplified signal (x1); at worst I would get the same thing as the factory antenna. But no, I get no signal. Turn the gain up a bit and PRESTO! the signal comes back. In practice the FM reception is improved about as much as the non-amplified AM signals.

Well I bought this to increase the antenna range on my sony STR-DE915 however it will not work with it. Although it came with a bunch of different adapters not one of them would hook up to my reciever. I have not found one antenna on the market that connects to any of my three recivers, I guess Im stupid, but every antenna I can find has a co-axial cord and every reciever I own has a plug type in-put. So this antenna actually worked when I hand spliced an RCA cord onto it, but the connection is choppy.
