Display Blanks Out And Cycles On-Off After 3-5 Minutes
Mark from Akron, OH on 4/9/2025
Long story short - camera set to "always on" mode will start to flicker on-and-off after 3-5 minutes, so forget using the "always on" mode. Crutchfield support sent a replacement that did the exact same thing. OEM admitted that they knew of the issue, as they had a batch produced with a bad resistor. Crutchfield support said they had 13 on the shelf and would have their "technical department" test each one. That was over five months ago... I am an electronic technician of some 40 years, with troubleshooting skills ranging from circuit boards to full systems, and fully understand proper grounding, fusing, and proper routing of wiring. It's a bad mirror display, per the OEM. Buyer beware.
Pros: Camera and display can be wired for rear-view "always on" mode, as opposed to just backing up. Good clear view behind you (when LCD Screen is working - see review). Great replacement for OEM rear-view mirror when back window is blocked. Robust outdoor-rated camera for rear-view. Recording dual-camera system with forward-facing and rear-facing cameras. Plenty (60') of cable for RV's.
Cons: See description - LCD screen cycles on-off after 3-5 minutes of run-time. No shorter cables available for pickup trucks or shorter vehicles, so a lot of excess cable has to be stowed somewhere.

Stay clear
Ricky from Rosenberg, TX on 3/11/2025
Looks nice. Easy to install but terrible design. As pointed out by others when using the digital display the standard mirror display can over ride it if you view at certain angles. Depth of view is VERY misleading. The image is light. Hard to view during daylight. Very disappointed in the product and Crutchfield.
Pros: Easy install. Looks good Touch screen
Cons: Terrible digital display. Digital view is lost when viewing at certain angles. Cars appear much further back in digital view versus the standard mirror view. Headlights have extreme starburst when using digital view..

Flawed excellence
RUSSELL from BRYAN, TX on 2/19/2024
I love the concept of this system and some aspects are excellent - some, not so much. First of all, I'm using this is a passenger car, which may exacerbate the main issue of glare. Your mileage may vary... Pros - Lovely clear, responsive screen - Excellent camera definition both front and back - Neat installation with only 1 lead coming up from the camera and into the headlining - High quality components and narrow connectors - great for routing cables through trim - Ability to pan both front and the rear camera views up and down with a finger swipe - Automatic rear view selection with parking line overlay when engaging 'reverse' Cons - Only records when the mirror has been turned on, which leads to the big issue... - The mirror is reflective AND displays the rear-view camera when switched on. The problem is that you're always aware of a ghosted image from the actual mirror view combined with the displayed image from the rear camera when the mirror is 'on' (and they're a different perspective). Ideally, you'd be able to turn off the rear camera view independently from the recording function but you can't... you either have the ghosted image OR lose the ability to record front/rear camera views (kind of defeats the whole purpose)

Much better
Michael from Hamilton, OH on 1/23/2022
I drive an older model full size SUV which is also lifted. It has terrible issues with blind spots. I've used other similar mirror monitor rear view cameras in the past but they failed to deliver on image quality and night time clarity. The brand motion FMVR-1150 is a much better solution than other less expensive options. There's plenty of cable as this is intended for commercial vehicles. The 170° viewing angle is awesome for eliminating the blind spots. Night time visibility is great. The quality of the camera as well as the monitor itself are awesome. I'm very pleased with this camera and monitor combination and would highly recommend it to others.

Brandmotion FVMR 1150

This is the third backup camera installed by Crutchfield over the last 12 years for my 2010 Toyota Prius. It is the best yet. Extremely bright display with auto brightness. Available always on or ability to turn off . In the off setting, you can see well day or night. It has a forward view camera and recording feature with impact sensor to automatically records front and back in an accident. And the most interesting feature is the ability to pan up or down with a swipe of the finger ( like my iPhone 12). I called Brandmotion's tech support to confirm this and they said the Sony chip was oversized and therefore could be swiped up of down. The down position is great for looking down for the curb.
Pros: bright big display
