The safer way to park

I'm a total backup camera convert. For such a tiny addition to my vehicle, it can make a big difference in how I drive. No parking spot is too challenging now, and Audiovox's ACA801 backup cam delivers everything you need to be a parking pro too.

The safer way to park

I'm a total backup camera convert. For such a tiny addition to my vehicle, it can make a big difference in how I drive. No parking spot is too challenging now, and Audiovox's ACA801 backup cam delivers everything you need to be a parking pro too.

Wide 180º view

Once you power the ACA801 and run the included video cable to the screen up front in your dash, this high-performance camera delivers a wide 180-degree horizontal view. It's enhanced with active parking assist lines to more precisely show you where you're headed. The responsive lines bend when you turn your steering wheel and show you the projected path of your vehicle. The ACA801 is enhanced to give you a crisp picture, even in extremely low light, so no worries about backing up in a parking garage or at night. It can be surface-mounted or license plate-mounted.

Or use it for a front view

Audiovox gives you a mirrored mode in case you want to mount this on the front of your vehicle and keep an eye on high curbs or other scuff-makers.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Features

Backup Camera: The Voxx ACA801 backup camera features a high-performance 1089 HD CCD image sensor that results in a cleaner, higher-quality image. It also features a 180° wide-angle lens that offers great visibility behind your vehicle. In addition, it has a light sensitivity of 0.1 Lux so the smallest amount of light is need to produce an image of useable quality.

  • Mirrored or Normal Mode: The Voxx ACA801 can be used as a backup camera with a mirror image or front camera with a normal image. By default the ACA801 is setup as a backup camera. To use it as a front camera, cut the thin white wire loop on the cable that is attached to the camera (this also disables the park assist lines).
  • Dynamic Park Assist Lines: When configured as a backup camera Voxx ACA801 will display dynamic park assist lines on your connected monitor to aid you in backing up into a parking spot. A built-in gyro-sensor allows the park assist lines to dynamically curve as you steer and angle your vehicle.

Note: This rearview camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rearview camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rearview camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Composite Video Output: The Voxx ACA801 backup camera is outfitted with a composite video connector (RCA) which makes it compatible with virtually any in-dash receiver with integrated video monitor and a composite video camera input. The total length of the camera's video cable is 23'.

Waterproof (IP68): The Voxx ACA801 features a waterproof (IP68) housing to protect it from the elements. It's totally protected against dust and protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m for the duration of 30 minutes.

Mounting Options: The Voxx ACA801 backup camera includes a license plate bracket which mounts behind your vehicle's license plate frame. A surface-mount bracket is included, if you cannot use the license plate mounting bracket. Mounting hardware is included for the installation of the surface mount bracket. Use your license plate's existing hardware to mount the license plate bracket. Both brackets allow you to adjust the up and down angle of the camera.

Note: The license plate bracket is designed to work best on vehicles that have a license plate located at the center and above the bumper. If your vehicle has a plate location that is offset to the left side, right side, or your plate is located under the bumper, then the surface-mount bracket is the better choice.

Power & Ground Wires: The Voxx ACA801 features 7 feet (including 3' attached to the camera) of accessory power wire (red) and ground wire (black). The 22 total feet of composite video cable also provides an accessory power wire. The power and ground wires will need to be hardwired. Power can be obtained from your vehicle's reverse light circuit or from the reverse gear wire of your aftermarket stereo (if applicable). The ground will need to be connected to your vehicle's metal chassis.

Note: Some vehicles with LED style tail lights will require the camera be connected to an accessory power source, as the tail light circuit is not designed to power other devices.

Q
Will this work with a factory Chevy Mylink radio with a video screen?
keiferman  Sep 06, 2021
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
How is this camera active? Does it detect steering wheel position change?
ambrose  Nov 04, 2019
1 answer
A
yes it does BUT is slow an a little behind what you would see from a factory installed version. I really don't count on it anymore.
gregory paul  Nov 04, 2019
Q
Is this compatible with the Alpine ILX-W650? Also how does the camera know the position of your steering wheel? Does it tap into the OBD2 to see the steering wheel position?
shane  Oct 17, 2019
1 answer
A
It is compatible with that headunit. It does not tap into your OBDII. It has a built in gyroscope that that estimates your cars positions. It is not 100% accurate, but is a decent estimate.
