Get a clearer rear view for your VOXX RVMDVR replacement mirror

VOXX's EXTCAM1 backup camera makes a great accessory to your VOXX RVMDVR replacement mirror. It offers a continual full-color view of the area behind your vehicle as you're driving, or you can choose to use it only while you're in reverse. You can add optional parking lines through the RVMDVR's on-screen menu, and you can even flip and/or reverse the image if you have the camera mounted upside-down.

The EXTCAM1 includes an adhesive base for convenient installation, plus mounting brackets and hardware for placement in harder-to-fit spots. It also comes with a 19.5-foot extension cable, plus a 45" reverse lead for tapping into your vehicle's reverse light. The EXTCAM1 only works with the RVMDVR and does not include a composite video connector for use with other mirrors or monitors.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? This camera can provide a constant rear-view of the area behind your vehicle, or you can use it only while backing up.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the mirror. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the mirror, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Add-On Camera: The Voxx ADAS EXTCAM1 add-on rear-view camera is designed to be used specifically with a Voxx ADAS RMDVR Rearview Mirror (sold separately). The exterior camera can provide a continual display of the area behind the vehicle with no obstructions from headrests, passengers, luggage, etc.

Note: The Voxx ADAS EXTCAM1 does not include a composite video connector for connecting to other aftermarket mirror/monitors.

Reversing: The EXTCAM1 rear-view camera features an attached 45" reverse trigger wire that can be connected to your reverse light for assistance when backing up. Optional parking guidelines can be displayed while reversing, accessible in the RMDVR mirror menu. Other menu options include flipping the image, when mounting the camera upside down, and displaying either a Normal or Mirror image.

Mounting: The Voxx ADAS EXTCAM1 includes an attached 3M adhesive base for attaching the camera to a flat surface - upright or upside down. An additional mounting bracket is also provided, letting you adjust the camera angle for optimum viewing. The bracket can be installed on the vehicle with the attached adhesive or with the provided hardware.

Connection: The EXTCAM1 features an attached 18" connection cable along with a 19.5' extension cable for connecting to your RMDVR mirror's rear camera input. The camera end of the extension cable includes an attached 45" red wire for connecting to your reverse light wire. The camera cable and extension cable are all terminated in proprietary 4-pin connectors.

Power: The Voxx ADAS EXTCAM1 receives power through the 4-pin cable from the connected RMDVR rear-view mirror.
