About the MTX 5512-22

John Pollard

High thump-to-dollar ratio

MTX's 55 Series subs give you huge boom for the buck, and the 5512-22 12” subwoofer epitomizes that mindset. MTX worked hard to build a high-performance sub that adds tons of bass to your system without emptying out your bank account. And MTX protects this sub with a 2-year warranty.

High thump-to-dollar ratio

Solid engineering makes great subs

MTX squeezes an oversized cone into the standard 12" frame, so the sub moves more air and gives you more bass. The woofer's movement cools the sub as it plays, so it doesn't overheat when you're rocking out. The special suspension exerts extra control when you're pushing the sub hard, so it'll handle up to 400 watts RMS. Its dual 2-ohm voice coils give you more wiring options when setting up your system.

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Terminals: The woofer features two pair of heavy-duty spring post terminals which can accept single or dual (standard 3/4" width) banana plugs, pin connectors, or bare wire up to 10-gauge.

Inverted Apex Surround: The new Inverted Apex surround allows increased cone surface area, creating more air movement and higher SPL.

Progressive Suspension: The progressive suspension controls excursion at high power, thus reducing distortion and improving sound quality.

Spider Plateau Venting: Heat from the voice coil is vented through vents that surround the back of the spider. As the woofer travels back and forth, cool air is pulled in and heated air is pushed out.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: For the best possible sound quality where space is a premium MTX recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 1.0 ft³. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Vented Box: The recommended vented box has a net internal volume of 2.32 ft³ with a slot port 13-3/4" x 2-1/2" x 26.25". Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power.

A
Rockford Fosgate R2-1200X1 Prime Series mono subwoofer amplifier ??? 1,200 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm This amp was recommended by Crutchfield advisors to run two of these subs. Just hooked it up in my sons car with one and it rocks. Will be getting the other one soon. Was bought for future expansion of two subs.

Q
will the Qpower QBSUV12V 12 in. Bomb Dual Woofer Box 2007-2014 Chevy Tahoe 3rd Row Vented Downfire, be sufficient for 2 of these? specs say Air space: 1.25 cubic feet per subwoofer

A
Those MTX subs are looking for a bit more airspace in a ported enclosure - ported box volume: 2.32 cu. ft. You can try adding some Poly-Fil but ideally those subs would be in a bigger box.
