CTA-2006 Compliant: CTA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4-ohms. CTA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).
CTA-2006 Specifications:
- Power Output:
- 100 watts RMS x 4 + 300 watts RMS x 1 @ 4-ohms
- 150 watts RMS x 4 + 500 watts RMS x 1 @ 2-ohms
- 300 watts RMS x 2 @ 4-ohms bridged (channels 1-4)
- 800 watts RMS x1 @ 1-ohm (sub channel)
Other Specifications:
- Signal to Noise Ratio: >95 dB
- Frequency Response: 20 Hz -20 kHz
Controls & Indicators: All of the TH1400.5 controls are located on top of the amplifier under a protective cover. The cover can be removed using the supplied 2mm Allen key. An Input Mode (F/R) switch, an Input Mode (Sub) switch, and Power, Protect, and Clip LEDs are provided along with three sets of audio controls (Ch 1/2, 3/4, and Sub):
- Channels 1-4:
- Gain: A rotary control adjusts the input signal level; variable from 200 mV to 10 V.
- X-Over: 3-position switch; sets the crossover type; HPF, LPF, Full
- HPF Frequency: A rotary control adjusts the high-pass filter cutoff point; variable from 40 Hz to 400 Hz.
- LPF Frequency: A rotary control adjusts the low-pass filter cutoff point; variable from 40 Hz to 400 Hz.
- Subwoofer Channel (5):
- Phase: 2-position switch; 0 or 180°.
- Gain: A rotary control adjusts the input signal level; variable from 200 mV to 10 V.
- Crossovers:
- LPF: Rotary frequency control; variable from 50 Hz to 250 Hz; the low pass filter is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed).
- Sub Sonic: Rotary frequency control; variable from 10 Hz to 55 Hz; used to remove extremely low frequencies that can't be cleanly reproduced by the subwoofer.
- Bass Boost: Increase the bass level between 0dB and +12dB via the rotary control; centered at 45 Hz.
- Power LED: An LED strip that's part of the top-panel MTX logo lights red when the amp is powered on and will turn off if the amp senses a problem and goes into protect mode.
- Protect LED: A Protect LED will light Red if the amplifier detects a short on a speaker/speaker wire; the battery voltage drops below 9 volts or exceeds 16 volts; or if the amp overheats.
- Clip LED: Used in conjunction with the Gain control, the Clip LED will light Blue to indicate the input signal is starting to clip (distort) and the Gain will need to be lowered below that point.
- Input Mode (F/R Channels): A 2-way switch determines how many of the RCA inputs will be used to feed the Front and Rear channels (2Ch or 4Ch).
- Input Mode (Sub): A 2-way switch (On/Off) determines if the Channel 5 subwoofer RCAs will be used to feed the sub channel (On), or if the Front or Rear inputs will feed the sub channel (Off).
Wire Connections: The TH1400.5 has set screw terminals for power, ground, turn-on (REM), and speaker outputs. The power and ground terminals will accept up to 1/0-gauge wire (recommended), and the turn-on and speaker outputs will accept up to 10-gauge wire. The set screws are loosened/tightened with one of the supplied Allen keys, 2mm or 5mm. There are five sets of speaker terminals for channels 1-5.
External Fuse: The amplifier does not include a built-in fuse, therefore an external fuse should be placed on the power wire, within 18" of the battery. It is recommended that a 1/0-gauge amplifier wiring kit and a 150-amp external fuse be used when installing the amplifier.
Input Signal: The amp's RCA inputs accept line-level and speaker-level inputs. When using a speaker-level input signal, an optional speaker wire to RCA adapter is recommended (sold separately - see Accessories). The TH1400.5 can accept input signals ranging from 200 mV up to 10 V.
