Make things easier

Installing new audio equipment in your vehicle can be complicated, and it's always helpful when you can simplify the process without compromising on quality. Make things easier

Installing new audio equipment in your vehicle can be complicated, and it's always helpful when you can simplify the process without compromising on quality. MTX's TNP212DV bass package transforms your vehicle's bass response with a ported enclosure housing two rugged 12" Terminator subwoofers and a mono amp that kicks out 500 watts RMS.

Subs that can take it

The 12" subs feature large, durable polypropylene cones for increased efficiency and less distortion. MTX's Spider Plateau Venting design keeps each sub's voice coil cool so you can count on some serious bass when the music goes deep. And the beauty of this entry-level package is that the enclosure handles up to 1000 watts RMS, so you can upgrade your amp later on without having to replace the enclosure.

Tough, attractive enclosure

For an enclosure that will stand up to heavy bass output, MTX chose 5/8" medium-density fiberboard. Its aircraft-grade black carpet covering protects the box and offers a neat appearance that blends in with most interiors, while the embroidered Terminator logo enhances the cabinet's cool factor. For an easy way to keep the bass bumping, it's hard to beat this TNP212DV package.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The MTX TNP212DV package includes the new TNE212DV dual 12" subwoofer enclosure paired with a TNA500-1D amplifier. Each sub can handle 500 watts RMS (1000 watts RMS for the entire enclosure) and are internally wired for a 2Ω load, making them a perfect match for the TNA500-1D amp, which provides up to 500 watts RMS for the subwoofer enclosure.

TNE212DV:

  • Enclosure: Designed for heavy-duty bass, the MTX enclosure is built from 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard) covered in aircraft-grade black carpet. Its ported design offers a frequency response from 250Hz all the way down to 20Hz. A single set of spring-loaded terminals are provided on the rear of the enclosure for wiring.
  • Drivers: Each of the two 12" drivers features a polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround for increased efficiency and less distortion. The subs also feature MTX's Spider Plateau Venting, which helps keep the voice-coils cool during heavy use. Both drivers are wired for a 2Ω load and can handle up to 1000 watts RMS for the pair.

TNA500-1D: The included TNA500-1D is a Class-D mono amplifier capable of powering the sub enclosure with up to 500 watts of RMS power. Inputs and controls for the amplifier include the following:

  • Power Input: Power and Ground ports consist of hex-socket set-screw terminals that can accept up to 4 AWG wire, along with a Remote turn-on terminal that can accept up to 8 AWG wire.
  • Speaker Output: One set of hex-socket set-screw terminals is provided for the mono speaker output, which can accept up to 8 AWG wire.
  • Fuses: Sockets on the inside of the amp hold the two included 30A ATO fuses. If the fuses need to be replaced, the bottom panel of the amplifier must be removed.
  • Low-Level Inputs: Two RCA jacks provide a low-level signal input.
  • Controls:
    • Gain: Adjusts the input signal level and can accept input signals 200mV to 10V.
    • LPF: The amp includes a 12dB/oct low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency that can vary between 50Hz and 250Hz.
    • Subsonic: A built-in subsonic filter can be used to filter unwanted low-frequencies, with an adjustment range of 10Hz to 55Hz.
    • Bass Boost: A Bass Boost control lets you increase the bass level, centered at 45Hz, from 0 to +12dB.
    • Remote Bass-Level Input: An RJ-25 socket is provided to plug in the included Remote Bass-Level Control.

Remote Bass Control: Included with the TNP212V is a remote bass-level control allowing you to adjust the bass level without accessing the amplifier. The remote bass-level control can be mounted under a dash or console within easy reach of the driver with the included 16'/4" phone cable (RJ-25 plugs).

Customer Q&A

Q
Can this fit in the back of a 22 Chevy Equinox?
fernando  Dec 02, 2023
1 answer
A
We do not qualify universal subwoofer boxes like the MTX TNO212DV Bass Package for specific vehicle fit, Fernando. We do show in our information that in the cargo area behind the rear seats in your 2022 Chevy Equinox there is roughly 40" of width, 33" of depth, and 16" of height available for a subwoofer box. The MTX does appear to have space, but we always advise to take accurate measurements and compare to the listed dimensions for the MTX TNO212DV below to ensure a good fit in your specific vehicle. Box dimensions: 29-5/8"W 14"H 13-1/2"D1 x 11-1/8"D2 I hope this helps!

Q
Would an 8 gauge power wire be safe with this kit?
tayvon  May 25, 2023

A
Thank you for your question, Tayvon. Yes, 8-gauge power and ground cable are recommended to be used with this system.

Q
Will this draw too much power from my battery of a 2003 Subaru Impreza? If so should i buy a higher performance alternator
brayden  Dec 06, 2022
1 answer
A
That's a good question Brayden, and due to the variances in charging systems and age of vehicles we cannot really advise there sadly. What we can do is play it on the safe side with a capacitor. If you are going to install the MTX bass kit in your daily driver it is a good idea to use this T-Spec 3.0-Farad unit in the link below. It's easy to install and has a readout on it so you can monitor your charging system, and it makes a big difference for idling and daily traffic driving avoiding dimming lights or a drop in idle. If this did not do the trick, we would advise doing a big-3 upgrade in the second link to help your stock alternator perform at its best. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_1203DDC/T-Spec-Capacitor.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_122BIG3XS/XS-Power-BIG3XS.html

Q
do i need to break these in?
carlos  Sep 25, 2022
1 answer
A
It is generally recommended to break in new speakers and subs. The most common method is simply playing at low/medium volume for the first few weeks. This will allow the subwoofer to become more limber, similar to stretching before a workout.

Q
What gauge wire should the amp take?
grant  Jan 17, 2022
2 answers
A
I used 4 guage but you can use 8 guage. Either will be fine.
kevin  Jan 17, 2022
A
I'd say at least 4 gauge. It don't use a lot of power but you don't want to go too small and take a chance on the wire getting hot
frank  Jan 17, 2022

Check out the main product page "Accessories" tab, you will see all of the wiring kits available. If you need further assistance I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
why if each sub is 500 watts rms does it come with a 500 watt amp and not a 100 0 watt?
zachary  Aug 08, 2020
1 answer
A
We do not have MTX's official reasoning behind including an amp that outputs 500W RMS. However, if I had to guess, I think they built this package for consumers looking for a good improvement for the bass without having to get overly high on the cost while allowing room to grow later.

Q
Which has the best response and power in the lower bass regions, these MTX subs, or the Rockford Fosgate p500-12p subwoofer? Does the 500 watt amplifier included with these MTX subs have an automatic on/off feature using either DC offset, or an audio signal like the Rockford Fosgate, or is a remotely run signal cable the only option?
lanny  Feb 29, 2020

A
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.
