Features

Overview: The Wavtech Link1000.5plus is a compact 5-channel amplifier designed for both aftermarket and factory systems. Featuring Wavtech's best-in-class LOC (Line Output Converter), the ability to handle up to 40V of high-level signal input, OEM load detection, and a flexible summing matrix, the Link1000.5plus is an ideal choice for factory sound system integration.

Class-D Power: The Wavtech Link1000.5plus is a Class-D amplifier that's stable down to 2-ohms in stereo and 4-ohms bridged. The amp's power ratings are taken at 14.4 V with <1% THD.

  • 4-Ohms: 75W RMS x 4 + 300W RMS x 1
  • 2-Ohms: 125W RMS x 4 + 500W RMS x 1
  • 4-Ohm Bridged/2-Ohm Sub: 250W RMS x 2 + 500W x 1

Differential-Balanced Inputs: The Link1000.5plus features a differential-balanced input architecture to effectively control noise and ensure compatibility with a wide variety of source units, including many OEM systems. Without resorting to line output converters, you can directly connect most OEM source units to the amplifier without creating any noise or compatibility issues. Unlike conventional single-ended inputs, the differential-balanced design does not connect one side of the audio signal to chassis ground. This eliminates any voltage sensitivity between one input terminal and ground and greatly reduces the incidence of alternator whine in a typical car audio installation.

Cooling System: The outer shell of the Link1000.5plus amplifier is designed to remove heat from the amplifier circuitry. For optimum cooling performance, this outer shell should be exposed to as large a volume of air as possible.  Enclosing the amplifier in a small, poorly ventilated chamber can lead to excessive heat build-up and degraded performance.

Protection Circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuitry for thermal overload, DC output, over/under voltage, and short circuits. The amp stops operating when it goes into protection mode, with the Power indicator changing from Green to Red.

Auto Turn-on: When the amplifier is connected using speaker level inputs, from a factory or aftermarket head unit, the amplifier's auto turn-on feature can detect both DC-offset and audio signals, powering on the amp on when a signal is detected on the input. This eliminates the need to connect a turn-on lead to the amp's Power Control wire. A DC Aud Detect jumper on one end of the amp can be set to On or Off.

Load Jumpers: Each set of speaker-level input channels features built-in loading (resistance) to accommodate most OEM load-detect systems. Six Load jumpers (On/Off), one per channel pair, let you select which channels will have the loading circuit engaged.

Input Summing: The Link1000.5plus provides flexible input summing for a variety of signal configurations. Inputs 1/2 and 3/4 each have an Input CH switch that determines the signal routing, along with a Trim Level dial that lets you balance out summed signals. Each Trim Level has a range of -6dB to +6dB.

  • Channels 1&2: A 2-way selector provides the following:
    • 1/2: Signals fed into inputs 1&2 will go to output channels 1&2.
    • 1+3/2+4: Sums inputs 1+3/2+4 to channel 1&2 speaker outputs. This setting works well if combining separate high- and mid-frequency channels in a factory system to power two full-range speakers.
    • 1+3+5/2+4+6: Sum all six inputs to speaker outputs 1&2.
  • Channels 3&4: A 3-way selector provides the following:
    • 1/2: Signals fed into inputs 1&2 will go to output channels 3&4.
    • 3/4: Allows an independent connection to inputs 3&4.
    • 1+3/2+4: Sums inputs 1+3/2+4 to channel 3&4 speaker outputs.
    • 1+3+5/2+4+6: Sum all six inputs to speaker outputs 3&4.
  • Channels 5&6: A 3-way selector provides the following:
    • 1/2: Signals fed into inputs 1&2 will go to output channels 5&6.
    • 5/6: Allows an independent connection to inputs 5&6.
    • 1+3/2+4: Sums inputs 1+3/2+4 to channel 5&6 speaker outputs.
    • 1+3+5/2+4+6: Sum all six inputs to speaker outputs 5&6.

Gain Adjustment & Clip LED: Each pair of channels has a variable Gain dial with a corresponding Clip indicator. The Gain should be adjusted with the sound source at 3/4 volume, and turned up until the Clip indicator starts to light. If the Clip indicator is on solid, the Gain should be lowered below the clip point. When summing signals, the Gain adjustments should be used for matching relative levels.

Input Range: An Input Range switch is provided for each of the three pairs of channels, letting you optimize the source volume range while minimizing the gain required to achieve full output power without clipping. The 5 V/20 V setting should be used if low-level (RCA) signals up to 5 V are used, or speaker-level signals up to 20 V. The 10 V/40 V setting should be selected if connecting low-level signals up to 10 V, or speaker-level signals up to 40 V.

Filters & EQ: Each pair of input channels features its own filter. Channels 5&6 also includes a parametric EQ.

  • Channels 1&2: Filter can be set to Off (full-range) or HP; Frequency cutoff range is 50-500 Hz with the Multiplier switch on x1, and 500-5000 Hz with Multiplier switch on x10; the filter has a 12 dB/oct slope.
  • Channels 3&4: Filter can be set to Off (full-range), HP, or BP; a High-Pass Frequency cutoff dial has a range of 50-500 Hz with a 12 dB/oct slope; a Low-Pass Frequency dial and corresponding Multiplier switch let you select a cutoff frequency between 50-500 Hz (x1) or 500-5000 Hz (x10); the LP filter has a 24 dB/oct slope.
  • Channels 5&6:
    • Low-Pass Filter: Cutoff range from 50-500 Hz with a 24 dB/oct slope.
    • Subsonic Filter: Removes frequencies below the selected frequency on the dial; range from 10-50 Hz with a 24 dB/octave slope.
    • Parametric EQ: A single-band parametric equalizer lets you select a Frequency from 30-80 Hz; add 0 to +12dB of Boost; and adjust the Width (Q) from 1.5-5, narrowing or widening the boost range.
Connections

Speaker-Level Inputs: The Link1000.5plus features three removable set-screw terminal blocks for attaching speaker-level input signals. The terminals can accept wire up to 12-gauge and signal levels from 1 V-40 V, accommodating even the highest power factory systems. An Input Range switch is provided for each pair of channels, allowing a wide range of input signal levels: at the 20 V setting, signals ranging from 1 V to 20 V can be used. At the 40 V setting, signals ranging from 2 V to 40 V can be used.

RCA Inputs: Three pairs of RCA low-level input jacks are provided for connection to an aftermarket headunit. The Input Range switch can be used to determine the input level for these inputs as well: the 5 V setting can accept signals ranging from 200 mV to 5 V. At the 10 V setting, signals ranging from 400 mV to 10 V can be used. Bal/Unbal switches for each pair of inputs let you select Balanced or Unbalanced. Unbalanced connects the RCA shield to ground, which may help eliminate noise under certain conditions.

Speaker Outputs: Six pairs of set-screw terminals are provided for the speaker outputs, each accepting wire up to 12-gauge. Bridging terminals are clearly indicated on the output panel.

Optional Subwoofer Level Control: The Link1000.5plus features an RJ-45 socket for use with an optional Wavetech linkRC wired remote control (sold separately), letting you adjust the subwoofer level (Ch 5&6) independently from the other four channels.

Power/Ground/Remote: Set-screw terminals are provided for the power, ground, and remote turn-on terminals with the power and ground accepting up to 4-gauge wire (recommended), and the remote terminal accepting wire up to 12-gauge.

Note: The Link1000.5plus amplifier does not include any fuses. A 100A fuse should be installed on the power wire no more than 18" from the positive battery terminal. If an amp wiring kit with a different size fuse is used, the fuse should be replaced with a 100A fuse.
