Primare R15

The R15 spent some time in my rack, with input from an NAD C 558 and Sumiko Wellfleet MM cartridge and output to a Primare I35 integrated amplifier. This model is rock solid in build quality and in performance, which you would expect from Primare. The ability to dial in specific capacitance and resistance with dipswitches on the back really helps to tailor the pre-amplification to your specific needs. I also appreciate the trigger ports and automatic standby setting. My experience was top-notch. 5/5

I bought this with great anticipation. It's beautiful and well built and overall it sounded very good, but the noise floor was just too high, i.e. the hiss was faintly audible from my seating position in between notes or in quiet passages (I listen to a lot of classical, which requires a low noise floor). And I was using the lowest gain setting too. Just to be clear, it was not a buzz or hum but rather just raw noise floor hiss. Maybe I got a bum unit, but I had to return it for this reason.

Pros: Good sound.

Cons: Noise floor too high.

As usual with Primare products, built quality is excellent. Minimalist design that matches my other primare equipment. As far a sound I am very pleased with the R15, warm and detailed sound, subsonic filter and gain adjustments for MM or MC is a big plus.

Pros: Sound quality and design

Cons: None

Excellent Product

I've had this unit for 3 weeks. It has gotten daily use. So far, so good. Currently in use with a Rega P6 Turntable with Rega MM Cartridge. Significant improvement over the built-in Phono Stage in my Receiver. After "burn-in" (4 days), the lower frequencies got more defined, especially Upright Bass. High Frequencies (Cymbals) more refined and crisp. Subtle changes in the soundstage. I'm happy with this unit, think I'll keep it for now. Sound Quality: Excellent Build Quality: Superb inside and out. A substantial piece of hardware, built like a Tank. Appearance: Understated Elegance. Ease of Use: Very easy.
