I was looking for a new phono stage after trying to use ones from Pro-ject that were noisy when using MC cartridges. The extra gain at 60 and 65db just made it a bit too noisy for my preferences, both buzz and hiss. I heard really good things about the r35 and that it had very low noise. So I bought one. I can confirm that there is very little noise even at high gain settings. Not zero noise when you turn up the volume high, but very very low. It sounds wonderful! Couple of notes: this thing is huge for a photo stage. It's as big as an integrated amp. You'll need a media center that's at least 20" deep. The build quality is fantastic. Really high quality. And it sounds. well I'm not a big believer in phono stages changing the sound much, but it just sounds like it isn't working hard like the pro-ject ones, and the music just sounds well supported, is the best way I can describe it. I hope that makes sense. I definitely recommend it!

Pros: - Very low noise - Build quality - Sound quality - Up to 76db gain! That's rare - Easy to set up

Cons: - Really big for a photo stage, needs a lot of space - Dip switches in the back are hard to access - Pricey, but worth it - I wish the case was all silver, not just the front. It would go better with my setup.

Still breaking it in but right out of the box it sounds great on both MC and MM cartridges. I appreciate the flexibility of gain and mc loading
