I've been a fan of iFi Audio for many years. They've developed a strong reputation for developing audiophile-grade products that are more affordable than many alternatives. Given their penchant for minimizing noise in audio signals, it's no surprise they've developed their first high-performance power cable. The Nova uses clever design to limit the amount of noise coming into your A/V components from wall outlets and power strips. If you've invested in high-end gear, this is a worthy upgrade to ensure you get the most out of it.

Five conductors, smartly arranged

Many power cables have three conductor wires inside: live or "hot," neutral, and ground. The Nova uses five oxygen-free high-conductivity copper wires: two hot, two neutral, and a ground conductor. So what do those extra conductors give you? They're set up in a balanced configuration — each pair of hot and neutral wires are 180 degrees out of phase, so their magnetic fields cancel each other out. This balanced design limits the residual electromagnetic interference that can plague stock power cables.

The conducting wires themselves are also arranged in a geometrically balanced design around the ground conductor. They're also offset by a couple of extra air-filled tubes. This "Ground Zero" design further keeps residual magnetic interference away from the ground conductor and out of your connected component.

The internal conductors are well-shielded by the heavy-yet-flexible polymer sheath. Each end of the cable features 24k gold-plated connectors, for enhanced conduction.

Features

Overview: The iFi-Audio Nova power cable is a significant upgrade to the mains power cord for your home audio/video equipment. Nova offers advanced technology and oxygen-free copper to deliver the purest AC power available. The 71" cable has a 3-pronged NEMA 5-15P plug and an IEC C-15 connector on the component end.

Construction: Nova features five heavy-gauge, continuous-cast OFHC (Oxygen-Free High Thermal Conductivity) copper. There are two pairs of live (hot) and neutral conductors on either side of the ground conductor, which is in the center of the cable. The conductors are wrapped in a polymer matrix insulation and wound around the straight ground wire in a geometrically-balanced configuration, canceling out each other's magnetic fields. This Ground Zero design keeps any residual magnetic fields or induced voltage from being applied to the center ground. In addition, a pair of air-dielectric delineators (polymer matrix tubes filled with air) are wound in a double-helix design on either side of the ground wire keep the live and neutral conductors apart. This contributes to a more solid cable and better dielectric performance. The cable is equipped with a flexible polymer outer sheath, and is terminated by iFi's audiophile-grade connectors and 24-carat gold-plated copper conductors.

Noise Rejection: The sophisticated design of the Nova power cable results in constant impedance, as well as superior rejection of Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference (EMI/RFI). The cable pairs effectively with the iFi PowerStation to deliver pure, noise-free power from the mains, all the way to the connected component.
