hands Down, Just Works
Dan from Chandler, AZ on 3/18/2025
Just works and that is all you really want from a wireless CarPlat car adapter. I am using it on my 2023 GM Sierra 1500 and am very happy with it. Was simple to set up and starts right up when I start my vehicle. Very happy with it and glad I no longer have to use a cord to connect to CarPlay which seems insane everything is not wireless in 2025 but here we are. Glad this product exists and works as expected. I would not expect anything less from Crutchfield.
Pros: Easy Set Up Connects Fast Wireless CarPlay Low Delay
Cons: Hard to switch to phone when on a call and stop vehicle. seems to want to keep connecting to the adapter. Would recommend when vehicle is off that the carplay adapter turns off too without delay.

Continuous pwr to USB causes a problem
Herb from VANCOUVER, WA on 3/16/2025
I bought it for my 2019 Challenger Scat Pack & it works as advertised. Easily connected to phone & car. There was no detectable difference in the sound quality or response time. My only problem is not with this unit, but with the way the car is set up. Both of the available USB ports are powered continuously, thereby maintaining a bluetooth connection with my phone outside the car. If I don't unplug it when exiting the car, I can receive a call and not be able to talk to, or hear the caller from my phone within Bluetooth range. Otherwise, it's great to not have to wear out the plug on my phone for short trips.
Pros: Works great Easy to set up
Cons: Check your car's USB port to see if the power is continuous, or if it is cycled off with the radio.

Great Idea, not so good execution
Kurt from MAHOPAC, NY on 1/16/2025
I purchased this to convert my wired Android Auto/Carplay Pioneer Deck to be wireless. The initial set up was troublesome but finally after a few tries, it connected and was able to get it working. Know issues, when on a call, and you end, it tends to cut out the speakers as it makes the radio still think you are on a call. Secondly, if you use a Iphone then go to Android, the system cant reconnect and sometimes have to shut off phone and radio to have it link. It also likes to sign in to a "WIFI" st up which then creates reset headaches. When it does work, I will say, works very well, fast no lag, But the times it does not factors more into why only 2 stars. Going to replace my wired double din deck with a wireless one.
Pros: Works well when it works, boots up and connects seemless. Very responsive
Cons: When it does not work, it is a connection nightmare Has challenges going from Apple to Android

Did not work with Sony XAV-AX3000 head unit, even with firmware update
David from Pearland, TX on 12/11/2024
After consulting with the Crutchfield advisors on the firmware update that makes the unit compatible with Sony aftermarket head units, I purchased this to go with an XAV-AX3000 that is my car. The firmware update was reasonably easy to do. The blinking pattern of the lights during and after the update did not match what I expected -- the light on the Crux unit never stopped blinking to confirm that the update was done. I went through the instructions to confirm through my iPhone that the update had indeed completed and took a screen shot as verification. The unit did connect my iPhone 16 wirelessly to the XAV-AX3000 head unit. Unfortunately, (1) the sound quality going through the Crux unit was awful, and (2) the interface from the iPhone through the Crux unit to the Sony head unit was painfully slow, even for something as simple as hitting the double arrow "skip to the next song" on a playlist saved on the iPhone. I returned the Crux to Crutchfield for a refund. As always, Crutchfield service on both the buying and return ends was great and is a big reason to continue doing business with them.
Pros: Crutchfield service is always great
Cons: It did not work with my Sony XAV-AX3000 head unit, even with the firmware update.

CarPlay and (surprise) AirPlay, too!
Bill from Cupertino, CA on 11/27/2024
Received ACP-WLX today and installed in 2025 Ioniq 6 SE. Trivial to install. Works very well. I was surprised and delighted to discover that the device supports BOTH CarPlay and AirPlay (both audio and video). None of the product descriptions talk about AirPlay and the online version of the owners manual is missing the pages that describe it (I have attached the extra pages from the printed manual to this review). I don't expect to use AirPlay very often, but it's GREAT to have it available. I can imagine my wife and I sitting in the car at a charger and reviewing web pages to decide on activities for the trip.
Pros: CarPlay and AirPlay Easy install Works well

Sony XAV-AX7000 Fail
C from HAMPTON, VA on 11/10/2024
Despite information on this site, could not get product to work correctly with the Sony XAV-AX7000. Tried two units, tons of updates and manipulations. All failed. Both worked as advertised in my wife's vehicle (Alpine ILX-W650 installed). No real advice from Crutchfield other than to try another unit. Crux customer service is crap. Here is a transcript between me and Jesse (Technical Support Manager). Me: Hello, I have tried two ACP-WLX CarPlay adapters from Crutchfield on my Sony XAV-AX7000 and neither work. Both are from lot 09162024. I attempted firmware updates with both and got the same results. I followed all instructions carefully and never got a solid red light at the end as per your instructions. Both adapters responded the same; LEDs would flash appearing to take the update, but would end with a flashing red that never went steady. I was able on a few occasions to get it connected to the head unit by turning of the head unit's Bluetooth, but CarPlay would only appear briefly, freeze the display and the head unit would crash and restart. Both adapters worked fine on a different vehicle with an aftermarket Alpine head unit. Any ideas? Jesse: Sounds to me like it's not compatible with your radio. Thank you. Me: I agree, but the Sony XAV-AX7000 is not listed on your website as being an incompatible model (several other Sony models are). Which implies that it is compatible and perhaps why retailers such as Crutchfield are marketing as such.
Pros: Worked on a different application.
Cons: Failed to work on my Sony XAV-AX7000

I would recommend getting one if you want to use CARPAY in a wireless method.

Can't find one better
Lonny-Len from JACKSONVILLE, FL on 10/17/2024
I just received the product two days after ordering it online. I plugged it in, connected to the BT on my phone and viola it works flawlessly. Turned the car off and then on and it reconnected within 6 seconds. I looked all over for a CP adapter. There are tons of these things. This seemed like a high quality build and it turns out I'm right. The only issue is that it is from a CA company and I do not buy items residing in that state for various reason-my option. But I do make exceptions for when there are no good alternatives.
Pros: Easy to connect, turn to page 5 for CP instructions on setup.
Cons: Wish it was less expensive although I did get a discount.

Good, but must disable BT+wifi on head unit to ensure good connection
Edward from SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA on 10/5/2024
The new lot of these units being delivered starting in October are an upgrade to the previous lots. I returned the last one because of a glitch that wouldn't allow it to accept a firmware update, as well as hit or miss with connections on startup. So this review pertains only to this most recent lot: On my 3rd Generation Honda Pilot, the trick to getting rid of the connection bugs was to turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the settings of the Honda head unit. It seems the Honda Bluetooth was creating some sort of conflict as the Crux CarPlay unit was booting up. It was resulting in CarPlay music continuing to pause within a couple seconds of trying to play and sometimes the CarPlay app would freeze. With the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi disabled, the CarPlay connection became extremely stable and all the audio worked as expected. Since the Crux CarPlay unit is wired, turning off the head unit's wireless connections has no impact on anything since your phone is communication directly with the Crux device and not the car's head unit.

Don't waste your time. I'm two devices in and will be returning them. Plug and play isn't realistic. The directions are primitive and leave no contingencies for incomplete steps. Additionally, the directions for updating firmware lead you to continuous failed updates where the most you'll get is 50% of the update. Save yourself the frustration and try the cheaper products found elsewhere first.

Awesome addition to factory wired CarPlay system
David from Oxnard , CA on 3/21/2024
Awesome addition to factory wired carplay system with some caveats. Small audio delay when streaming audio / switching tracks. I believe this to be related to wireless CarPlay buffering itself, and not this system specifically. Highly recommend updating the software, contrary to the recommendation in the manual. This seems to have fixed some small issues, and greatly improved performance. NOTE: the update process may need to be performed multiple times to get the most recent software version. The updates seem to contain much more then described in the meager update description of "Fixed some bugs"
Pros: Wireless CarPlay is awesome!
Cons: occasional hiccup's mostly resolved by software updates. Phone battery drops faster when using wireless CarPlay, so may need charging on long trips. Slight streaming audio delay, so may want to keep a cable for watching videos when parked.

Nice Upgrade
Bruce from Gresham, OR on 5/23/2023
When I received the Crux device and performed the setup steps, it did not display on my 2023 Mazda CX-5 head unit as a Bluetooth device. Crutchfield Support was polite and patient as they asked me to step through a few bits of troubleshooting. With no change, they contacted Crux for further assistance, and informed me they would immediately send an advance replacement. When the replacement arrived, it was quickly recognized by the head unit, and paired easily. Function has been very good, with an occasional time or two that has required the Crux device be power-cycled. Honestly, I think occasional connection issues are part of wireless CarPlay. I have the most expensive Sony ES head unit in my truck and love the wireless CarPlay, even with an occasional connection blip. Overall, I would buy this product again, and definitely from Crutchfield!
Pros: Easy setup
Cons: Occasionally fails to connect

Good unit but with flaw
TJ from Sugar Land, TX on 12/9/2022
Crutchfield shipped it free and fast as usual. Installation is straight forward, just plug in to the correct USB-C port of the car. The unit took several attempts to connect via Bluetooth and after powering on/off the unit several times, it remembers the phone and automatically connects when enter the car. There is a little delay in connection but responses from car touch screen is very good when it connected. However, I notice the unit disconnects every time i drive by a regional airport near the house. The music or navigation would stop playing and I have to manually reconnect from the car unit. It also happens at a certain intersection on the other part of the city. I don't think it's my phone signal issue as it does not happen at all before when my car connects directly to my phone via Bluetooth.
Pros: Small form factor, auto connect, very responsive
Cons: Lose connection intermittently

Works! Be sure to update software on phone if glitchy.
Brian from Baton Rouge, LA on 11/26/2022
I had the same issues as many others, glitchy and would drop the connection fairly consistently after 5 minutes into my drive. Crutchfield exchanged the device we suspected was flawed and wouldn't take a firmware update. After receiving the new one, I performed the firmware update and it was less glitchy and didn't drop the connection with my iPhone as much, but still about 50% of the time. I had given up and wasn't using the device for several weeks when I saw one of the latest iPhone software updates addressed a CarPlay bug having to do with dropping the wireless CarPlay connection. I believe this may have been the root cause of my issues. My phone now connects to the CRUX and stays connected. My lesson learned: Keep your phone updated! I love having wireless CarPlay now and my faith has been restored in the CRUX ACP-WLX.
Pros: Convenient
Cons: Takes 15-30 seconds to connect phone to head unit after starting the car. Price is higher than most tech gadgets providing a fine-scoped solution.

I was frequently getting out of my car and forgetting to bring my smartphone with me into the store. Oops! Will a bad guy smash my window to get to my phone? This device solves that problem. It was easy to connect to my cars head unit, just attach it to a short USB-C cable, allow Bluetooth to connect, and it works. Now I leave my phone in my pocket all the time. When I start the car it just automatically connects and off I go. The only odd thing I've noticed is that my Android phone (Samsung S42) shows up on the head unit as Apple CarPlay and not Android Auto. Hmm... I'll live with it knowing that my phone is safe. (In case you're wondering, I have 2 different head units and the Crux does the same thing on both.)

Erratic connection and lots of lag
Joel from Virginia Beach, VA on 10/29/2022
It's great being able to add wireless Apple Play to my head unit but there seems to be quite a bit of lag in the interface. Sometimes it will respond with just a little lag, which I can deal with, but other times there is a much longer lag. And sometimes it's function is erratic, backing out of what I'm trying to select and sometimes not responding at all. I gave it the benefit of a doubt by connecting my phone directly to the head unit but did not experience any of these issues. I will try contacting technical support to see if it might be an issue on my end but I'm not hopeful. If unable to resolve the issues, I will be returning this for a refund.
Pros: Wireless Car Play function
Cons: Erratic behavior and a lot of lag in communication

Excellent

Simple installation. Connected immediately. No noticeable lag. I have tried another companies version of this and the Crux is far superior.
Pros: Plug and play

Not reliable, didn't work for me
Crutchfield customer from Lake Forest, CA on 9/6/2022
A good idea but kept on dropping the connection, even when the cellphone was next to the module. It was also inconsistent in its connection process. I have reverted to a hard-wired connection and now have one for sale!
Pros: small good concept
Cons: unreliable

Sometimes Works
Enno from Raleigh, NC on 8/21/2022
When it works it works great. The issue is that, sometimes/most of the time, it takes for ever to connect, minutes or longer. I can sometimes get it to work by unplugging the USB then plugging it back in. I have talked with Crutchfield tech and we went through a lot of steps trying to resolve the issue. I have tried updating the OS but it doesn't seem to help. I think I will try a little longer to get it to work but may have to send it back.
Pros: When it works it's great
Cons: When it doesn't connect

Good but not perfect.
Adam from San Diego, CA on 7/28/2022
I waited to do this review because at first the unit was very glitchy. It would only connect about 20% of the time without having to unplug it and plug it back in. After doing a firmware update it seems to be working much better. I know that if that hadn't worked that crutchfleids amazing customer service would have helped me. I've been buying all my car stereo equipment from Crutchfield for about 30 years now and would never shop anywhere else.

GREAT AUDIO QUALITY
JB from Baton Rouge, LA on 7/23/2022
GREAT AUDIO QUALITY. I've had this for several days now and it works great. I have a 2016 F150 that I changed the usb hub in a couple of years ago per the online forums to add wired CarPlay and it has been terrific. I added this device several days ago and it was truly plug and play and has worked great. It is nice not having to take the phone out and plug it in to get all the features of CarPlay. My main concern was audio quality through the Sirius XM app which I use daily and there is no difference between wired and using this wireless adapter. I only ordered it because of the 60 day return policy but so far I won't need that at all!
Pros: Great Audio Quality and ease of installation.
Cons: None so far.

Does EXACTLY what you'd expect!
Charles from Pasadena, MD on 6/19/2022
Plug it in to the appropriate USB in your car, sync your phone, Done. It's really that easy. Then every time you drive, just wait 30 seconds to a minute for it to sync up, and away you go! Keep your phone in your pocket, purse, whatever. Reliable and seamless. Exactly what it should be!
Pros: Small, simple to set up and effortless to use.
Cons: None so far.

Better performance than the old wired connection
Kevin from Richmond, VA on 6/15/2022
Installed this and a MagSafe wireless charging pad in my 2015 Mustang Convertible with Pioneer DMH-1500NEX. CarPlay now runs faster and better than with the previous wired connection. Took me less than 5 minutes to make the initial connection after I removed the previous CarPlay connection to the head unit. The car did not come with factory CarPlay

CRUX ACP-WLX
Crutchfield customer from Centreville, VA on 6/14/2022
If I'd wanted something as quirky as this thing, I would have purchased it off of Alibaba. I'd been reviewing products in this category for a while with some hesitation. I figured if Crutchfield was carrying it then perhaps this was a device solid enough to pass Crutchfield's sniff test. Well...so far...the product is EXTREMELY unreliable. I got it to work a couple of times, but then the display in my 2019 Odyssey just kicks back from CarPlay to the default Monday stereo menu. When I attempt to reconnect it just flashes once and returns to the stereo menu. With a few attempts to re-enter CarPlay the screen just goes black. I can back to home screen using the home icon, but when I attempt to re-enter CarPlay it goes back to the black screen. Come on guys. Are you seriously going to stand behind this product?

Trust in Crutchfield
Alexander from Orlando, FL on 6/3/2022
I was quite worried about involving a 3rd party "workaround" in an Apple ecosystem, and hadn't heard good things about these aftermarket CarPlay adapters. The simple fact that Crutchfield was willing to carry it is the ONLY reason I was willing to check it out. I've so far been quite satisfied. There are many similar devices out there, and Crutchfield doesn't carry them. Clearly, they're selective. When I turn on my car the ACP-WLX quickly connects to my phone - I can immediately start Spotify and CarPlay reacts just as it did when it was directly wired. I've only been using it for about a week, but it's consistent! I hope this continues.

Worthless. Dont buy.
Cesar from Ceiba, PR on 5/30/2022
Works once every three/four attempts. Brand new Rav4 Hybrid XSE 2022. Sometimes you even have to park the car and turn the whole thing off and back on to make it work. Contacted Crutchfield customer support to try to fix or replace. It's been two weeks and still haven't received a response. Don't waste your money. Not worth it.

Seemed a bit pricey compared to some other's, but only one in stock. Very simple and easy to install, just plugged it in to my deck, and connected my phone to the BT shown on the screen. No input/map lag, and overall very smooth and easy to use!

I received this product today and it took a few minutes to set up. I own a 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 RST. I tried a product from another retailer and it was horrible. It would not transfer my apps and was slow to work every time I started my truck. I returned it and called Crutchfield and discussed this new product and glad I purchased! All my apps are showing up and works perfectly just like my wife's new car with wireless apple car play.
