Solid Option Overall
Ryan from Trumbull, CT on 1/28/2025
2012 Audi Q5
Great product. Requires an interface (I used a smart carplay interface). But the quality is excellent, and it is best at night. Rain does seem to render it useless occasionally, but I am okay with that. If you plan on using this to avoid looking over your shoulders like in newer cars with ultra-wide cameras, think again. This is not wide enough to see around larger cars and not wide enough to catch that BMW flying through the parking lot. Otherwise, it looks great, and if you're okay with a bit of DIY, it can be installed in a few hours for first-timers.

Decent Camera for VW Jetta 2013 SE
Kamyar from Bellingham, WA on 7/9/2023
This was installed, DIY, in a 2013 VW Jetta SE 2.5, Manual Transmission, connected to a new Boss Receiver. View - 2 Stars - because this is on the handle, the angle is mostly off the ground. It would have been nicer to have the camera look backwards more. If you prefer a view truly showing all behind you, then I license mount is likely better. Also two stars because the guidelines don't turn with the wheel. Not sure how they would but miss that from OEM camera's. Trunk release works very well. Installation - 4 Stars - Overall it was fairly easy to install this, and the look is great, requiring no holes in the vehicle to be drilled or anything. I chose to install this with power and connection at the receiver. I later realized this may have been a more difficult choice. We had trouble getting the camera to engage in Reverse, so we had to call for tech support. Crutchfield was very helpful, but the resolution was that the trigger wires should be connected to the reverse light wire. I'd already snaked the wires from the trunk to dash, closed up panels, and didn't want to rerun or reopen, so it was advised to buy another wire and run from trigger wire to reverse light wire under dash. This worked, but added some time and was a pain to access. It's now working though. If buying again, I may strongly consider a different camera so that the view is better, less toward the ground. Less OEM looking, but likely better camera function/practicality.
Pros: Easy Install, clear image, very functional trunk release
Cons: Camera Angle, Guidelines don't turn, required extra wiring in manual transmission Jetta

Challenging installation
Christopher from Denver, PA on 6/6/2022
2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen
Not an simple installation. The camera worked fine with the car off and the key in accessory position. Didn't work with the car started. After lots of research I saw some articles on various VW forums indicating that you need to wire in a 12VDC 40/30 AMP 5 pin relay to make this work. Found a relay at my local auto parts store. Pin 86 gets wired to your backup light with a t-tap. Pin 30 gets wired to 12V constant (t-tap into 12VDC accessory outlet in rear cargo area). Pin 85 gets wired to ground (crimped on an eyelet and mounted to chassis near accessory outlet). Pin 87 goes to camera positive lead. Pin 87A is not used on the relay. Be sure to sand off/wire wheel the grouding area to expose bare metal for your ground connections. The camera works perfectly with the relay wired in. Overall I'm quite happy with the results, but this was a somewhat challenging installation.
Pros: Looks OEM Good picture quality
Cons: Definitely not plug and play

Great product at great price from reliable vendor
Vinh from Sterling, VA on 2/3/2022
2011 Volkswagen Jetta
The CRUX CAD-05T fit perfectly in my old 2011 Jetta S and looks like it came installed from the factory by Volkswagen after the installation. It was super easy to install and route the wiring using the instructions in the box and video instructions I found on you-tube for similar products. The video quality was better than I had expected: Video resolution, clarity and lighting were all better than the stock backup camera that is on my family's Lexus. The price for this product was about the same as from other online vendors, but I chose Crutchfield because of their customer service AND because they gave me a free installation guide for my specific vehicle model that was very useful for replacing the radio and speakers in my car. Highly recommended product (Crux CAD-05T rearview camera); highly recommended vendor (Crutchfield).
Pros: Easy to install; High quality video
Cons: None

2013 Volkswagen Passat
We have a 2013 Passat SE. Nice backup camera. Great picture and easy install. We bought the Boss BV800ACP and the interface module. It hooked right up. The only function we couldn't get to work was the interactive directional lines. They will not bend to the direction we are backing. It may be the Passat model we have though. Overall the camera unit is nice.
Pros: clean fit and easy install.
Cons: Directions could be a little better with more images of the connections.

Perfect fit for the MkVI Jetta (2014). Trunk release button may actually respond better than the factory unit. Ignore the built-in guide lines feature and just go ahead and cut the wire. Probably the case for nearly every camera that has this feature since car width and camera placement can never be "one size fits all". Most head units, at least the AA/CP units I considered, seem to have their own adjustable guide lines. The 4-pin connector between the camera pigtail and main video cable needs to be manually reinforced (electrical tape or similar) since it has no self-locking mechanism. Camera worked fine on initial test after install, but this connection was easily pulled loose by jostling when trunk trim panels were reinstalled. Camera fits multiple Audi/VW vehicles. Included video cable length could be an issue on vehicles longer than the MkVI Jetta. Yes, an RCA cable can be used to extend the video portion, but it could cost you the ability to manually activate the camera without using reverse, if your head unit supports this feature. The included cable also has a power wire from the head unit to the camera...extending the cable would require running both an RCA extension and extra power wire. Not the end of the world, just something extra to be prepared for.

Nice Upgrade

Perfect fit and plenty of wire for my car. The added wire guide was a neat feature. The quality is pretty good and angle and perspective is pretty good. I got exactly what I needed from it. For the price, I was hoping the quality would have been a little better (only reason it was not 5 stars) but overall it does what it needs to do for me and this is much better than some other after market ones I have seen and used.
Pros: Perfect fit for my 2012 VW Jetta GLI

A definite upgrade from the OEM camera!
Mike from New Bedford, MA on 4/25/2021
2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen
Vehicle: 2013 Jetta Sportwagen TDI w/factory reverse camera I purchased this camera after upgrading my head unit. This generation Volkswagen has an RGB camera and a Volkswagen specific connector. When changing to almost any other head unit you have to either get a converter or a new camera. Both require some type of installation. The aftermarket camera is an upgrade from the factory model but the installation can be much more difficult. You have to fish the wire through most of the Volkswagen which isn't always the easiest in a Volkswagen. You will more than likely have to search around some forums for a how too. So you can do it without causing too much damage to your vehicle. I can't say anything for a sedan. If you have a wagon or a hatch back you have to go through the rubber boot at the top of the hatch. in my vehicle it was an extremely tight fit and quite difficult to fish through. I achieved success by coating the end of the wire in soap to lubricate it. As for electrical connections I had best luck grounding it to one of the tail light bolts and powering it through and add a fuse at the interior fuse box.
Pros: Much better quality than OEM.
Cons: Can be a very difficult install.

Excellent quality. Fit perfectly. Just barely enough cable length to run from my trunk to the stereo. I'm not sure if others have mentioned this, but the camera has a bit of a fisheye appearance.
Pros: Retains the OEM look.
Cons: Cable length was barely long enough to reach the back of my stereo after carefully routing and hiding all the wires.

Really impressed with this camera! Install was super simple. I have a 2013 Volkswagon Jetta and it installed without any issues. Fit was perfect and I was able to take the power straight from the reverse lights. The picture is super clear and has a nice wide angle (way better than my wife's factory VW camera). The angle could be a tad higher, but with the wide angle the camera works out just fine. Installed with a Sony XAV-A5000.
Pros: Clear image Easy installation Looks stock
Cons: Angle could be a tad higher

Love it! Direct replacement for my 2013 TDI Jetta Sportwagen. The wiring through the rear hatch grommet was a bit difficult but all the end to end connections were easy to make and the camera itself provides way better picture that the factory camera in my 15 Passat.
Pros: Direct replacement Easy end to end connections
Cons: Hard to pull RCA through some factory working passages and grommets

The fit to the trunk was good. The lenght of the wire is long enough to go from trunk to front and cross dash without issue. However would be good if near the trunk unit had a disconnect. Would be benefical to run the wiring from the radio to the trunk to setup the wiring then install the trunk handle.
Pros: Good Camera works well at night, Guidelines are good and can see edge of bumper in the image to really assist in backingup.
Cons: No disconnect option at unit next to the trunk handle.

Factory appearance
Richard from Topeka, KS on 5/12/2019
2013 Ford F-150 XLT
I installed the Crux CAD-05T on my 2013 VW Passat. The product looks stock and after one month of use the product has performed well. The instructions are adequate for the varied models that can use this product, but there was one small detail I wish I would have been mentioned in the instructions. The instructions outline two options on the harness to supply power. The option for supplying the power from the rear wire should not be used for most newer VWs because you cannot obtain an adequate power supply when splicing into the reverse light. VW uses Pulse Width Modulation on the exterior lights. The camera will work beautifully while the engine is off. You will not receive adequate signal when the engine is running. I called Crutchfield Technical Service and he quickly provided a work around. My audio setup used a iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module. I used the ground from the rear part of the camera harness. I tapped into the red wire from the iDatalink Maestro to and fed the to power camera. Problem solved.
Pros: Factory look
Cons: None
