Nice for the price
Steven from Olathe, KS on 6/28/2025
My second Crux, different model, camera looks great, but designed for bumper or flat body panel mount. I put it below the tailgate handle on my Avalanche and guidelines are too close because of the angle so end up parking farther away. If not for that I would give 5 stars. It works better than the 20 month old Boyo camera that crapped out, but the adjustable lens unit would be better. Also, the hole saw bit is too small, only fits the back diameter, must ream out a good amount before you can clip in the unit.
Pros: Nice flush mount finish
Cons: Not designed for angle mount near top of tailgate

Maybe Just a Bad Unit.It Happens
Ted from Houston, TX on 4/6/2025
First, I wanted to state a few disclaimers regarding this review. 1. Because of my procrastination, by the time I installed this product, it was outside of the exchange and/or replace warranty. - In no way am I trying to have anything replaced, I understand I am outside of those limits. 2. I am a cheap individual and it kills me when I can't repair something, having to buy something else or just go without. So, this entry are my thoughts and experience with this product. After finally installing, the camera on my 2004 Jeep Wrangler through the Sony head unit. (purchased at the same time) After making all of the necessary adjustments angle, focus, the picture was very clear; for +/- a month. Then picture became hazy, inconsistent turning on, and eventually stopped working all together. So, I thought the best way to trouble shoot was to everything from the camera to the connection to the head unit. Checking fuses, cuts/scrapes in the wiring, and disconnected, cleaned, and reconnected where needed. Prior to reinstalling, I checked that there was current and that the connection to the head unit was not faulty, as a dim camera image showed up. I figured a dim image was better than no image. So, I reinstalled everything, looking forward to an image; but instead a screen that said (paraphrasing here) that there wasn't anything detected.
Pros: Bright picture initially.
Cons: Not sure why the picture failed

Justin from Grants, NM on 3/9/2025
Picture was good, camera worked as advertised. It was a bit of a pain to get oriented but that took a few extra minutes to make sure it was level. I could back up my excursion with confidence that I wasn't going to run something over finally. for one day. I went out the next morning and had no picture, my dead unit confirmed there was power to the camera, I confirmed power at the connection to the reverse light anyways, made sure the 4 pin connector was seated correctly. Just appears I received a bad unit which seems to be common with these cameras.
Pros: Clear picture Long wiring harness
Cons: Lasted less than 24 hours before failing

Crutchfield - Why Shop Anywhere Else?
Joseph from Pittsboro, NC on 1/7/2024
I just got this Backup Camera/Stereo install buttoned up yesterday. A HUGE shoutout to ALL the Sales & Tech Support Folks at Crutchfield. At 67 years old, I vividly remember what "Customer Service" USED to be; regrettably, in 99% of the case nowadays, it's a sad joke. The Crutchfield Sales Team helped me with a "simple" stereo selection for my 2008 Bullitt Mustang, since "all" I want is the ability to play CD's, plug my iPhone into it (or access it via Bluetooth) to play the music I've downloaded to it, and access a backup camera - with the stipend that it MUST look "Factory" The choice of a Jensen CDR6221 unit, coupled with this Crux CUB-01, ended up being PERFECT! Camera installed in the removed trunk lock cylinder area w/o having to enlarge the hole at all; another requirement, since I didn't want to carve up any sheet metal. After installing, I routed the camera wire to the front of the vehicle on the passenger side, zip-tying to the factory harness - see attached pictures for the results. Clear, crisp image that appears IMMEDIATELY upon shifting into Reverse; I also added some bubillion candlepower reverse light bulbs, LOL. And yeah, you caught me - I DID remove the "Jensen", "Bluetooth", and "CDR6221" nomenclature from the bottom of the stereo frame; again, in the interest of a "Factory LQQK". The whole project turned out EGG-ZACTLY like I had "imagineered" it; thanks again, Crutchfield!
Pros: Perfect Fit in the lock cylinder hole - LQQKs factory-installed!
Cons: As others have indicated, there's not "Up" & "Down" on the camera, so you'll have to install it "loose" first, get the camera oriented, then affix it in place...

Joseph from Dobson, NC on 12/13/2023
Hate to leave a semi-negative review, but if you're looking for quality material and construction, steer clear of this camera. Right out of the box, wires were bent to the point the insulation was cracked and wire was exposed. Went ahead with installation and thought I would tape any exposed wiring only to find the wires completely broke off in my hand when installing. Cheap plastics and wires. Also, be prepared to trash the included hole saw. It won't even cut through a plastic bumper housing without disintegrating. Do yourself a favor and use a quality 7/8 drill bit instead. Would not buy this camera again. You get what you pay for.
Pros:
Cons: Cheaply made out of junky materials. Wires break loose in sections because they are so thin and the insulation so brittle.

Mario from Green Bay, WI on 8/16/2023
Great buy, the price was excellent, it feels like its made of a very good quality, the video image is very good. The only complaint I have a bout it is that there are no markings on it indicating top or bottom or the horizon of it. Another thing they could improve is in adding an eyelet connector since they recommend the installer to ground it to a new ground. Overall very good product. Fast delivery. Installed it on a 2016 Ford F-150 with no camera from factory.

Crutchfield customer from SHAWNEE, KS on 4/28/2023
I really dig this camera, and it seems to be a great value for the price. I installed mine in the spoiler of my 2006 4Runner. The supplied video cable was just long enough to reach the head unit without the need for an extension. The picture quality is excellent regardless of whether it is day or night. And the high mounted location allows me to maintain functionality even while using a hitch mounted cargo carrier. I would definitely purchase this again.
Pros: Flush mount, ease of install, picture clarity
Cons: Drilling required to install; no obvious reference point for camera orientation, so dialing in a perfectly level picture can be a challenge

Bruce from Colfax, WA on 1/18/2023
Excellent product EXCEPT the top of the camera is not marked, meaning you will have to connect, activate, then go back and rotate the camera to vertical. If installation spot is hard to reach it will make the procedure a real pain! Would be 5 stars if there was a tiny mark to indicate top.
Pros: Works great!
Cons: Top of camera not indicated. Real pain!!!!

swapped the cub15 for this one because the 15 stuck out about 1/8" in the bumper. easy to bump with your leg and knock out of alignment. much better resolution also. this camera is ever so slightly smaller in diameter than the cub-15 also, so i used a grommet to fill in the difference. wiring harnesses were a little different so had to swap them out also. had a problem with trying to get it wired to turn on from the head unit while driving. spoke to Cory in tech and he had me lined out in just a few minutes. great customer assistance.

Before setting "home" the camera, be certain the video at the head unit is absolutely level to the rear view. Once pushed into the hole, removal of the camera is very difficult! Lesson learned the hard way! The camera is not marked at the factory showing which end is up.
Pros: Good and clear video
Cons: Camera is not identified which end is up

Better options exist
Kenneth from Austin, TX on 8/14/2022
The hole saw bit that comes with this unit is a joke. If you're planning on installing this in anything metal, be prepared to find a better bit that will work. After I got it installed, the image was wavy. I suspect the cable needs to be routed away from any other power wires to try and avoid this. I ended up opting for another brand online. Comes with a much better bit and the top of the camera is also labeled right out of the box so you don't have to guess which way is up.

Needs some additional instructions included
Crutchfield customer from Sioux Falls, SD on 10/1/2021
I'm very happy with the design and features of this camera. The included hole saw is, as you might imagine, very poor quality. Not even a single-use tool in my experience. It did little but score the metal, heating it up and causing the paint around it to blister. I had to purchase a hole saw to complete the installation. There is also a paucity of instructions. In fact just wiring instructions. Nothing else about the installation... nothing! Including how to get the camera installed right-side-up. Spoiler alert... I didn't get it right-side-up and it's a bear to fix once it's popped into the hole. Unlike other Crutchfield purchases, I didn't receive any post-purchase installation instructions... and they certainly would have been nice.
Pros: Nice, small, compact Makes for a neat installation
Cons: Lack of installation instructions

Crutchfield customer from Ohio on 9/29/2020
Great camera at a great price, had no issues installing it or getting it to work. After seeing how the guide lines looked, I decided I didn't want them so I cut the white wire as instructed, but the lines didn't go away. I had already put everything back together and pulling it all apart would have been a hassle, so I just disconnected the battery for a minute, reconnected it, and problem solved. If you cut the wire to disable the lines, disconnect the camera then plug it back in to reset it. Other than that, everything was a breeze and I'm happy.
Pros: Easy installation, multiple options for supplying power, very long cord for just about any vehicle, great quality, great price
Cons: Camera needs to have power removed to reset it if cutting the wire to remove guide lines (not really a con, just a heads up for installers)

It works and installs easily. I got a bit of lines on the screen while my truck was idling and vibrating. It didn't have these lines when I tested without the engine running but in reverse gear. Not sure if it was due to poor grounding or sheilding interference by my running camera wires near other wiring.
Pros: Simple installation and included a hole saw.
Cons: I had some lines on my screen maybe due to car vibrating too much. It was clear while engine off but on reverse gear.

I was super excited to get this camera to first on my 16 ram 1500. I finally got around to hooking it up. As soon as I put the truck in reverse, a large puff of smoke and a terrible electrical burning smell occured. After turning my truck off to ensure that it did not catch on fire I began investigating the source of the smoke and smell. It appears to be a factory defect at the junction point of power and video. See the attached picture.
Pros: Perfect fit.
Cons: Almost set my truck on fire.

nothing fancy, but quite adequate.
Crutchfield customer from Suffolk, VA on 10/25/2019
I had installed a Pioneer stereo in my 2007 ford edge a few weeks back but was a little intimidated to run the wire for a b/u camera since I have a hatchback. After pondering it for a couple weeks, and my radio screen going blank whenever I put the car in reverse, I came up with an option for installation that didn't involve my hatch. I ended up installing the camera in the middle of the back bumper (see picture), using the key-hole drill bit provided, and running the wire up through the spare tire well, then along the door jambs to the front. I couldn't tell which side of the camera was supposed to be up, so I had to adjust after I got it installed, but that was no big deal. The camera doesn't appear to be adjustable so it just faces the direction allowed by the bumper, but it certainly lets you see what's behind you (see other picture). There was more than enough wire included.
Pros: Camera installs flat against surface, good quality picture, useful parking lines
Cons: Not adjustable
