Meh...at least I can still change the volume from my steering wheel.
Rick from Lakewood on 2/10/2025
2004 Volvo XC70
On my 2004 XC70, this allowed me to keep my volume controls, but I can't use the channel preset buttons as designed. Now the steering wheel button just changes frequency ( 90.5, 90.5, 90.7, etc.). It SHOULD change presets. Tech support said this was the best I'd get. Pretty pricey for something that only half works. Luckily, the Crutchfield guarantee will allow me to replace it with the cheaper harness if I want. I used Crutchfield to wire the interface which was worth every penny.
Pros: Keep my volume controls on the steering wheel
Cons: - Does NOT retain ability to change preset with steering wheel button. Reverts the button to changing frequency - Very expensive for something that only meets half my needs

If you own a 2004-2012 volvo you need one
Crutchfield customer from BROOKFIELD, IL on 4/24/2023
If your a p2 owner and want to add a head unit this is by far the only way to go, yes the box is a tad. If and a pita to locate, it beats the joke of the other adapters, not only for h.u but steering wheel controls and keeping the factory amp.
Pros: Actually lessons the amount of harnesses that you need. simple layout. Great Crutchfield customer support.
Cons: Idk if I have one yet, one of the connectors on the 3 pin harness came out of its pin. I just hope they back it.

Gets it done
Ivan from Libertyville, IL on 4/24/2023
2004 Volvo S80
The wiring interface is pretty good. It gets the job done and the radio is now working fine. HOWEVER... There are a LOT of wires to connect to the harness for the radio, so get your splicers and crimp tool ready. Lots of options that you may or may not use depending on the unit you buy and I had a couple of wires that were difficult to positively identify.

CRUX SWRVL-54 Wiring Interface
Ian from Davenport, IA on 1/10/2023

Well built unit and harness that does everything it needs to for virtually any head unit. The singular downside is, unfortunately, a rather large one. The central "box" that everything connects to is pretty big, relative to everything else, and finding a home for it, alongside all the other factory and aftermarket wiring, so that the new head unit fits properly was a tough task, and required the modification of the stereo install kit.
Pros: Full function Well built Easy to understand instructions Easy to put together
Cons: Very bulky, making install difficult.

Crux Wiring Interface for Volvo V70
David from Westfield, NY on 2/3/2022
2007 Volvo V70
I understand that there are other wiring interface kits out there, but this is the one that Crutchfield had for my application, which I utilized to install a Pioneer MVH-S622BS head unit in a 2007 Volvo V70. I am old school, and really expected to be able to adapt the wiring harness to the head unit harness using the supplied paper instructions, but nope; you need to really read the email that Crutchfield sends you, which contains a nice link to a page that has a color coded chart showing you which wires on the interface wiring connect to the head unit's wiring, and also to the vehicle amplifier (if it has one, mine does not). To splice the wires together, I used the classic "Western Union" style with each stripped wire end in an L shape and then twisted around each other to form a constant section and good mechanical connection, then soldering and following up with wire shrink wrap to insulate. The steering wheel control uses one of two supplied harnesses, depending on head unit manufacturer, and simply connects between the supplied adapter box and the radio using a jack. I did all the connections on my kitchen table, and after installing the head unit in the dash adapter, it took 5 minutes to plug everything in, insert the dash adapter in the car, and install the retaining screws. Hooked up the battery and initialized the head unit, and now I have lovely music again. Very pleased, 4 stars.
Pros:
Cons: If you have an existing amplifier (or want to add one), the paper instructions do not make it clear which set of RCA leads on the amplifier adapter are for the front or back channels. The answer is: the shorter leads are for the front channels.

It doesn't get any easier than this. I used the CRUX SWRVL-54 to install a SONY XAV-AX100 Android Auto/Apple Carplay head unit in my daughter's 2007 Volvo XC70. It's like a whole new car. Matched up the colors and everything just worked -- can't say that about other steering wheel control interfaces. I wish that such a simple option was available for my other vehicles. It was frustration free experience. Best of all -- you don't have to cut/tap/splice any of the wires in your car's harness to use this adapter.
Pros: No cut/tap/splice of your existing harness, steering wheel controls work magically
Cons: Spoils you as options this simple don't exist for other makes

works, even though the site says it does not. Follow the manufacturers documentation and not Crutchfield. I do wish that I could remap the buttons to different functions, but there's a limited market for Volvo SWC adapter boxes, and this one is far more reasonably priced than the alternative. I'm happy, my wife is happy, everyone wins.
Pros: excellent wiring harness included. retained power until key removal.
Cons: backup trigger wire did not work 100%, wired backup trigger to reverse light where I tapped into it for camera power. minor issue.

Works with 2002 V70 and Kenwood KDC-BT362U
Tony C from Gilbert, SC on 3/5/2016
Critchfield tried not to sell Thad to me. They kept saying that it wouldn't work on my 2002 Volvo V70. But I read the instructions and they said it should work for P26 type, 2nd Gen vehicle. So after talking with customer support to try to confirm this, it finally boiled down to try it, you have 60 days to return it if you aren't satisfied... So it's installed, and the steering wheel controls work controlling my new Kenwood BT362U. I'd give it 5 stars except for the poor documentation on what vehicles it actually works with.
Pros: The only adapter that could be found that works with the 2002 V70.
Cons: Poor information on what vehicles it works with.

Awesome Part
Jacob P from Oregon on 2/15/2015
Was skeptical to try this part out as Crutchfield's vehicle fitguide said that this wouldn't fit my '04 XC70 but it fit perfectly and this was the only part I've found out of a few that would interface with the steering wheel controls! Hooray! I had tried two other CAN adaptors and none would read or work with the car. This part also had a lot nicer wiring harness than what I had put in it previously, so that was a plus as well and it more than cleaned up a lot of my wiring mess.
Pros: Pretty much plug and play and provides SWC and a few other awesome functions for fancier stereos.
Cons: Couldn't drive and pick this up the same day I ordered it! :P Crutchfield's Vehicle Fitguide lies and says that this isn't compatible with a lot of Volvos but you should trust the item description more since that's what I did and it worked like a charm just as the description had said.

Good solution for Volvo owners
SteveM from Tucson, AZ on 1/10/2014
2004 Volvo S80
I purchased this adapter for my 2004 Volvo S80 to be used with a Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS receiver. It does a great job of enabling the factory steering wheel controls. In my vehicle I only have track advance and volume controls. It appears to be the only product currently on the market that will interpret Volvo's CANBUS signals for this purpose. The signals provided by the converter include speed sensor and illumination, which are not listed in the manual. I was unable to check the functionality of the speed sensor because the Pioneer head unit does not use it. The illumination wire is supposed to be tied to the vehicle's day/night auto-dim sensor but it always output 12 volts regardless of ambient lighting conditions. It is convenient that this assembly is a plug in solution to the factory harness and picks up the needed power, ground, and signal wires. I removed the gray connector as I was using preamp RCA lines on the head unit. I also removed unneeded wires from the radio connector to minimize the wire bundle thickness. The unit is small enough so I could tuck it out of the way. Upon powering up the head unit I was glad to see the steering wheel controls working as expected. The only shortcomings I could find were that the lack of information in the manual about the actual wires that need to be hooked up, and how they are implemented. I also had difficulty with the small 3.5mm plug harness being too short compared to the rest of the wiring during installation.
Pros: Nearly a plug and play solution to an otherwise impossible SWC challenge with VOLVO's unusual CANBUS wiring.
Cons: Documentation is doable but lacking in detail, and does not depict all wires in the harness. Functionality of illumination wire appears to be dependent on model and year of vehicle - this is not described in product documentation.
