Features
AUTOMAT Technology: The Pro-Ject A2 has a fully-automatic start-and-stop with the automatic mechanism being completely disengaged and decoupled during the entire runtime of the record. The fully mechanical automatics are engaged when you press start and the tonearm is automatically moved to the lead-in groove of the record. Once playing, the automatics are completely taken out of the equation and are not affecting the playback quality. At the end of the record, the record player will automatically return the tonearm to the resting place.
3-Speed Belt Drive System: The Pro-Ject A2 turntable features a precision belt-drive system using a quiet running regulated DC motor. It supports both 33-1/3 and 45 rpm speeds with the included cartridge. A 45 rpm adapter is included. The A2 turntable also support playback of 78 rpm records. However, you'll need to change out the pre-installed cartridge for a 78 rpm compatible cartridge (sold separately). There is no need to change out belts or the belt position, thanks to an electronic 3-way switch that allows you to easily change between 33-13, 45, and 78 rpm.
Heavy MDF Chassis: The turntable's heavy MDF main chassis is made and designed in Europe and carefully hand painted in a luxurious 8-layer matte black finish. It provides a very sturdy base for the sub-chassis and reduces hollow spaces to avoid resonances.
- Floating Sub-Chassis: The A2 employs a sub-chassis construction, where the tonearm, platter bearing and motor are mounted onto a separate floating sub-chassis. This isolates all the most critical turntable elements further and adds an extra layer of protection against outside noise, resonances and interference. Pro-Ject invested in a new aluminum die-cast top for the whole sub-chassis and automatic mechanism. Due to the new aluminum die-cast cover and the massive chassis, the whole sub-chassis construction is more effective and isolates unwanted resonance much better. This has especially big advantages, when your loudspeakers are very close to the turntable.
- Damped Aluminum Platter: The A2 comes with a precision balanced damped aluminum platter. The damping ring on the inside adds weight and reduces resonances. In the last step, the platter is turned and precision balanced to receive its fine edges and lowest wow and flutter deviations.
- Damped Aluminum Feet: The A2 features four silicon damped aluminum feet to help isolate the turntable from your mounting surface in order to prevent any unwanted vibration that can lead to sound coloration and distortion.
Ultra-Light Aluminum Tonearm: The A2 is outfitted with an 8.3' ultra-light-mass aluminum tonearm featuring an improved tonearm tube with larger diameter. The tonearm bearing has received a major upgrade and is now made out of aluminum, plus features a 4 pin-point construction with steel tip ball bearings. This allows for unhindered and free tonearm movement with the lowest amount of friction possible. As a result, the A2 will track your vinyl records with the utmost of precision and tightness.
- Carbon Fiber Reinforced Headshell: The anti-magnetic headshell is made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer which makes it super stable and rigid, all while keeping the weight at a lowest to work perfectly with the ultra-light-mass tonearm design
- Sumiko Rainier MM Cartridge: The Pro-Ject A2 turntable comes with a pre-installed and pre-adjusted Sumiko Rainier MM (Moving-Magnet) cartridge that delivers a broad soundstage with clarity, dynamics, and warmth.
Massless Tracking Force Adjustment: The A2 uses a new system for setting the tracking force. As usual, you first level out the tonearm with the damped counterweight. Damping the counter-weight makes the tonearm as a whole more robust and decouples the counterweight from the tonearm reducing resonant frequencies. Afterwards, the tracking force is set by turning a dial directly on the tonearm bearing. Not only is this system very fast, precise and efficient, it also keeps the center of gravity directly on top of the bearing center. The spring based anti-skating can also be adjusted directly on the tonearm base.
Gold-Plated RCA Outputs: The Pro-Ject A2 is outfitted with a set of gold-plated stereo RCA outputs that provide excellent audio signal transfer and resistance against corrosion. A high-quality stereo RCA cable is included. Pro-Ject's Connect-it-E cable is a semi-balanced, low-capacitance cable, with superior shielding. However, you can always upgrade to an even higher quality cable if preferred.
- The Pro-Ject A2 should be connected to a Phono MM input on your AV receiver, integrated amp, or powered speaker.
- If your receiver, amp, or speaker is not equipped with a Phono MM input, you'll need to purchase an external phono preamp (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).
Dust Cover: The Pro-Ject A2 comes supplied with a clear acrylic dust cover to prevent dust build-up on the turntable.
- Dimensions w/ Dust Cover Closed: 17.0" (w) x 5.875" (h) x 15.8125" (d)
- Dimensions w/ Dust Cover Opened: 17.0" (w) x 16.0" (h) x 15.9375" (d)
AC Power Adapter: The turntable operates off of standard household current using the supplied external AC power adapter and needs to be plugged into an AC wall power outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner (sold separately).
Made In Germany: The Pro-Ject A2 turntable is fully handmade in Germany and looks back on decades of experience. Paired with Pro-Ject technology, it sets new standards in automatic turntable design.
