Features
Optical Box Phono E: The Pro-Ject Optical Box Phono E is a phono preamp that not only offers a MM phono input, but also a line-level input, plus an analog and digital output. A built-in 24-bit/96kHz DAC converts the preamp's analog phono or line-level input to digital for high-precision sound.
High-Quality Construction: The Optical Box Phono E preamp incorporates low-noise circuitry and features a lined metal chassis to eliminate RF interference and vibrations, so that an undisturbed listening experience is guaranteed.
Precise RIAA Equalization: The Pro-Ject Optical Box Phono E provides amplification and precise RIAA equalization for MM phono cartridges (not compatible with MC phono cartridges).
Phono & Line-Level Inputs: The Optical Box Phono E is equipped with a MM phono input to connect your turntable with a MM phono cartridge, as well as an analog aux input for connecting an external line-level audio source device. Only one input (Phono or Line-Level) can be used at a time.
- MM Phono In: The MM phono input consists of left & right stereo RCA jacks that allow you to connect a turntable that features a mounted MM phono cartridge.
- 3.5mm Line In: The Optical Box Phono E also provides an analog line-level input that consists of a stereo 3.5mm minijack, giving your existing audio system an additional analog line-level input.
Note: The Optical Box Phono E does not support turntables with MC phono cartridges.
Analog & Digital Outputs: The Pro-Ject Optical Box Phono E is outfitted with both analog & digital audio outputs that work simultaneously, so you can output the same Phono or Line-Level input source to two separate audio systems.
- 3.5mm Line Out: The analog line-level input consists of a stereo 3.5mm minijack for connection to an analog line-level input on your AV receiver, stereo integrated amplifier, or powered speaker system. The 3.5mm line-level output should never be connected directly to a Phono input.
- Optical Digital Out: The built-in 24-bit/96kHz DAC and optical (toslink) digital output converts the preamp's phono or line-level input to digital for high precision playback through your AV receiver or soundbar speaker system.
Ground Terminal: The Optical Box Phono E has a ground terminal, in case your turntable has a separate ground lead. This provides shielding to the tone-arm and the sensitive circuitry of the turntable.
AC Power Adapter: The Pro-Ject Optical Box Phono E operates off of standard household AC current, using the supplied AC power adapter. The external power adapter is separate from the phono preamp to further improve sound quality.

I was presently surprised when I connected my Nakamichi cassette deck to my Lyngdorf AV processor which only has digital inputs. Sounded really good with little to no noise. Make sure you set the switch at the bottom to output 24/96 for the best sound if your gear can handle it.
