Overview: The Canon RF 20mm F/1.4 L VCM lens (7023C002) is compatible with the EOS R-series mirrorless cameras. This wide angle prime lens has a bright f/1.4 aperture that performs well in low-light situations. This 20mm lens is ideal for capturing closeups and for shooting landscapes, interiors, and videos. It is compatible with full frame cameras, as well as cameras with an APS-C image sensor (where the equivalent focal length is 32mm).

Lens Construction: The lens is constructed of 15 lens elements in 11 groups, including one Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) lens, two UD lenses, one BR (Blue Spectrum Refractive) lens, and two Aspherical lenses. The special elements provide high image quality across the full frame. Canon adds their Air Sphere Coating, Sub Wavelength Coating, and Fluorine Coating to minimize chromatic aberration. This L-series lens features water-resistant seals around the control ring, focus ring, switches, and lens mount to protect the lens in harsh environments.

12-pin Communication: Canon RF-series lenses feature a 12-pin communication system between the camera and the lens (compared to 8 pins for the EF-series). The 12-pin system provides faster AF, enhanced image stabilization, and optimized image quality. The additional data channels are also used for the in-camera Digital Lens Optimizer (DLO) which uses built-in memory capacity to correct aberrations.

Iris Ring: The lens features a dedicated iris ring for manual iris control in videos and still images. The iris index is labeled at full stops f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, and Auto, with hash marks at every 1/3 stop. The iris ring locks in the Auto position. For manual aperture operation, you'll need to slide the iris ring lock release switch while turning the iris ring.

Control Ring: The Control Ring can be assigned the functions that are commonly used with cameras, such as shutter speed, aperture, and exposure compensation settings. The camera's manual can provide instructions on the control ring's function. The ring features a "click" action when turned to give you a sense of the degree the ring is being rotated. The clicking sensation is loud enough that it could be recorded while shooting movies. The "click" sensation can be removed (for a fee) by sending it to a Canon Service Center.

Focusing Ring: The Focusing Ring can be rotated to manually focus on your subject. The focusing ring is electronic instead of mechanical in nature. You can choose the Focus Mode via the AF/MF (Auto Focus/Manual Focus) switch on the lens barrel.

Voice Coil Motor (VCM): The RF 20mm lens is equipped with a Voice Coil Motor (VCM) focus drive system. The VCM powers the primary rear focus unit for fast, accurate, and quiet focusing.

Circular 11-blade Aperture: The lens features a circular 11-blade aperture that presents a pleasant out-of-focus background blur (bokeh) to help your subject stand out in your photos.

Lens Hood and Case: The lens includes the EW-73H petal-shaped lens hood which is designed to block sunlight or other light sources to prevent glare and lens flare, and to protect the lens from scratches and the weather. When not in use, the lens hood can be reverse-mounted on the lens for storage. Also included is the LP1219 lens case to protect the lens when it's not in use. No extension tubes or lens extenders are compatible.

Optional Filters: The RF 20mm f/1.4 L VCM lens has a 67mm mounting thread on the front of lens for attaching screw-on type filters. In addition to the front thread, you can cut a gelatin filter and slide it into the included rear gel filter holder.
