Overview: The Canon RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens (6710C002) is a wide-angle prime lens that is compatible with the EOS R series mirrorless cameras. This L-series lens has a bright f/1.4 aperture that performs well in low-light situations. It is equipped with a Nano USM (ultrasonic motor) and a new Voice Coil Motor (VCM) for independent control of focusing groups which results in fast auto focusing. The "hybrid" lens can excel in still photography, as well as for shooting videos. It is also ideal for street photography and photojournalism, as well as wedding photography. The lens comes with front and rear lens caps, a lens hood, and an attachable rear filter holder. It is compatible with full frame cameras, as well as cameras with an APS-C image sensor (where the equivalent focal length is 56mm).

Lens Construction: The lens is constructed of 14 lens elements in 11 groups, including two UD elements to minimize chromatic aberration, and two aspherical elements for edge-to-edge sharpness. An Air Sphere Coating (ASC) and Super Spectra Coating (SSC) are applied to reduce ghosting and flare. A Fluorine Coating on the front lens element helps repel fingerprints and moisture droplets.

12-pin Communication: Canon RF-series lenses feature a 12-pin communication system between the camera and the lens (compared to 8 pins for the EF-series). This 12-pin system is the fastest available for a Canon lens and camera combination, and provides faster AF, Digital Lens Optimizer, and more. In addition, the EOS R camera can display lens information directly to the viewfinder, making it easy to confirm the lens' focal length without looking away from your subject.

Voice Coil Motor (VCM): The RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens features a new linear focus motor called a Voice Coil Motor. This virtually silent VCM controls the rear focusing elements while a Nano USM on the floating focus unit to give you extremely fast autofocusing. The dual-motor design also significantly reduces focus "breathing."

Lens Rings: This RF-series lens features three separate rings along its barrel. The Control Ring is located nearest the front of the lens, and can be assigned functions that are commonly used with R-series cameras, such as shutter speed and aperture settings. The Focusing Ring is electronic, not mechanical, in operation, and is the widest of the three lens rings. It is used for manual focusing. With a camera with electronic full-time manual focus, manual focusing is always possible. The ring nearest the lens mount is the Iris Ring, and is used to set the aperture value (between f/1.4 and f/16, plus "A"). The "A" position is for Auto Aperture operation, and the aperture value is set by the command signal from the camera. To prevent accidental aperture switching, you can lock down the iris with a switch.

11-blade Circular Aperture: The lens features a circular 11-blade aperture that presents a pleasing out-of-focus background blur (bokeh) to help your subject stand out in your photos.

Optional Filters: The RF35mm F1.4 L VCM provides two ways of adding filters to the lens. It has a 67mm filter mounting thread on the front for accommodating screw-on lens filters. It also comes with a rear filter holder that can be attached to the rear of the lens for sheet-type gel filters. A printable filter template is provided in the lens' Reference Guide for cutting filters to the proper size. Only one filter, with a thickness of 0.2mm or less, may be used.

Included Accessories: The lens comes with the Lens Cap E-67 II and Lens Dust Cap RF attached. The petal-shaped Lens Hood EW-73F is included, and can reduce unwanted light that causes flare and ghosting. It also protects the front lens element from rain, snow, and dust, as well as accidental impact.
